Tropical Storm Ernesto Did Quite a Job on Crops in Eastern Carolina

There has been $59 million in crop damage, all thanks to Tropical Storm Ernesto. Mainly it affects corn and tobacco, but that may not be the whole picture. Some farmers in Martin County say Ernesto damaged their cotton crops too.

Martin County Cooperative Extension Agent J.B. Coltrain says there will likely be some loss because the condition of the crops could make collecting the cotton difficult.

Wind and heavy rains from Ernesto contributed to Martin County's loss of about $7 million worth of tobacco.
