The PCS Phosphate mine in Aurora in Beaufort County, one of the county's largest employers, is running out of land to mine. The phosphate they mine is used for many everyday products like soft drinks, toothpaste, cleaning products and dog food. But there's another part of the equation, called reclamation, putting the area back to its natural state. The giant mining company is running out of mine land. They need of a new permit, as their current one will expire in 2017. But at the current mining rate, the permitted acres will be all mined out by 2011.
