A 9/11 memorial will be unveiled in Kinston Monday, on the five-year anniversary of the attack on America. The "Salute" organization of Kinston created the $18,000 project in the Neuseway Veterans Park in the city's downtown. The memorial features two fountains symbolizing the twin towers as well as a concrete wall in the shape of the Pentagon. In addition, citizens can contribute to a brick patio by purchasing bricks in honor of law enforcement, fire and rescue officers. Planning for the project began in 2002, and construction began three weeks ago. The memorial is being funded entirely through private contributions.
