Kinston Plant Manufactures 4,500 Piece China Set For White House
It's President Bush's final day in the White House but just because he's moving out, doesn't mean he won't be leaving a mark. WITN headed to Kinston today to find out how one local manufacturing company helped Mister Bush put some final touches on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

A local manufacturing plant is celebrating the fact, its work will be honored in Washington DC for a long time to come, that's because the first lady just unveiled a 4,500 piece state china set made in Kinston.

Plant Manager Paul Leichtnam says, "We were thrilled, it's a milestone for this facility. Lenox is now in it's 120Th year so this was a real honor and privilege for us to manufacture."

The process wasn't easy it took 100 employees, 2 years to produce the final product, designed by First Lady Laura Bush and since Lenox's motto is high quality, if anything happens at any time during the process they simply throw the piece away.

"It's been thousands of hours of producing, again a 4,500 piece set, it goes through seven different decorating stages and firings, again very intricate and beautiful china."

The company's hope is that future presidents and leaders from around the world enjoy white house feasts on the plates, as much as employees at Lenox enjoyed making them.

The set ended up costing about $500,000 but it was all paid for with private money by the White House Historical Association, so no tax-payers had to dish out for this Washington expense.

Lenox, has manufactured china dishes for six other presidents in the past, their positive reputation is why the Bush's picked them as well.

I think this is rediculous. So what if it wasn't paid for with tax payer dollars!! That is still a half of a million dollars that could have been used somewhere much more important. Think how many small businesses and mortgages that could have helped! What's wrong with our government and our society?? They keep talking about bailing these big auto companies and banks. What's that going to do for the little people?? Why not take all of that "bailout" money and divide it up amoung small businesses or all american families who make under $50k a year. Those are the ones who need bailing out right now. And why don't they make the athletes, celebraties, and heads of big corporations who make these outrageous salleries (million and billions of $$$) give just a million each towards bailing out the little people whom their greed has affected!!! That's all I have to say!

Just wait until the Obama's get into a brawl and start throwing all that expensive china around. Then they will want the taxpayers to buy them some more.
