A movie filmed in North Carolina and set in South Carolina has won two People's Choice awards.

"The Secret Life of Bees" won awards Wednesday night for favorite drama and independent movie. Actresses Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning accepted the awards during the ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

"The Secret Life of Bees" was filmed in early 2007 in the Wilmington area and set in South Carolina. It's based on the best-selling book by author Sue Monk Kidd of Mount Pleasant, S.C.

The story is a civil rights era drama about a white girl who runs away with her black caretaker to find a home with three black sisters who keep bees.
