Your driver's license is in the mail. That will happen in 2008, under a new law signed by Governor Mike Easley yesterday. Motorists will receive temporary licenses while their permanent ones are mailed from a central location. Even better, drivers between the ages of 18 and 53 will also be able to renew their licenses for eight year terms, up from the current five. D.M.V. officials say the new process will give them a better opportunity to catch individuals making fake IDs or stealing people's identities.
