A Greenville elementary school was placed on lockdown this afternoon.

Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says reports of a shooting near Sadie Saulter Elementary School on Fleming Street brought about the safety measure.

It happened around 4:10 p.m. and a half hour later students were allowed to leave the building.

Mayo says the school has an after school tutoring program for children.

Greenville police say a resident heard gunshots several blocks away from the school, but police investigated and could not find anyone who had been shot.

Poor poor misguided soul. So confused. I will pray for you. God Bless

You said that you made no such statement and yet there it is. I think it is you that has been proven wrong. "It is okay as long as you see the err of your ways and pray for forgiveness." Then do it...

I guess some one knows they are wrong yet still wants the last word. It is okay as long as you see the err of your ways and pray for forgiveness.

JLM: "I would not sacrifice so much as a fish for any human-child or adult" and "Again, I would not trade an animals life for a school full of children." They are both your quotes. Nuff said? ANy questions?

I said no such thing, I was implying adoption. Again I will mention God's plan, he has a plan for everyone. If someone is meant to die they will and it is because God has deemed it necessary. And yes, I will pray for you and yours.

Posted by: Coach M Location: RMT on Jan 16, 2009 at 01:58 AM
JLM: So your saying for the woman I spoke of to find another man to take her husbands place? Wow. You're saying that you would not sacrifice 1 animal in order to save a school full of children? Wow. Please pray for me and my family as I will do the same for you and yours.

Every child needs a father period. No matter what the situation the child is what is important. How can a woman raise a child to be a man? And it may take a strong woman to raise a child but it takes a stronger woman to raise a child AND make a marriage work. God Bless.

Posted by: Coach M Location: RMT on Jan 15, 2009 at 02:11 AM
JLM: LOL, like I said, I think you mean Je'suis not Jesus. Not all single mothers are promiscous. How about the mom's that have husbands in the military and they are at war. Should the mom left at home find another man while her husband is away. I mean, you say that every child needs a father, right? And maybe the lady just needs to put her child up for adoption and get a dog, chicken or fish. Man, do you even read the stuff you write or are your hand possessed. Pray for all of us as there are alot whom don't think as you, but then again give thanks that we do not.

I will pray for you for you obviously do not understand what is written in your Bible. I have a deep long running relationship with Jesus and I know he lives in my heart. I am a rightous warrior for God, I will spread his word regardless of any liberals and nonbelievers it might offend. I speak the truth, I speak against the promiscous single mothers and baby killers, the feminists and the gays. I will pray for you and your family that they may realize what their heavenly father's words really meant. God Bless

You have only blind ignorance leading you. You continue to state that you should go to Church in order to know God. My God doesn't only live in Church. You say in 1 article that an animal is better than a child then in another you say all children sould be made to know Jesus. You are very much like the 'Christians' that caused me to stop going to Church to begin with. Holier than thou people that have lost sight of the true meaning of 'witnessing.' You sit in judgement of people that do not see things exactly the way you do. Please do not pray for my children as you seem to think that my dog would be a better part of my family than them. You have no right to say how my relationship with God is. I have only to answer to God and not to 'Christians' such as yourself. You just do not get it and probably never will. But if you think you will go to Heaven because you go to Church or that I will not because I don't, then it IS you that doesn't understand the Bible as you believe you do.

They don't post half of my comments because they would offend people like you. I am right with the LORD. Everything I said is true. And no, I don't "spped" because GOD wants us to follow man's laws. I will pray for you and your children.

WITN posts your comments all the time. They are a perfect example of Christians that think they do no wrong. I bet you are between the age of 55 and 70, have a bumper sticker that says 'heritage not hatred, attend Church 5 - 7 times a week thinking that if you don't, you aren't right with God and never drive within 5 mph of the spped limit.

Christianity should be taught and enforced in public schools period. We know what religion sponsers terrorism and we know what religous group is responsible for the wars. Christianity is the backbone of this great nation that GOD gave us. We have elected a muslim and if we are not carful then we will be taken over. We must stand united. If you are not with JESUS you are against him, and I am happy to know he is on my side. GOD BLESS

Christianity should be taught and enforced in public schools period. Atheists and wiccans are the ones shooting up schools. We know what religion sponsers terrorism and we know what religous group is responsible for wars. Christianity is the backbone of this great nation that GOD gave us. We have elected a MUSLIM and if we are not carful then we will be taken over. If you are not with JESUS you are against him, and I am happy to know he is on my side. WITN never posts my comments so hopefully they will let the truth be known. I have edited some of this to make these liberals happy.

You say children should be 'made' to accept Jesus? Then YOU do not follow God's will at all. God gives people a choice. I am a Christian but know it is not up to me or any other Christian to force God nor Jesus on anyone. if you doubt my beliefs just check my COMMENTS in other articles such as 'gay day' or 'lawsuit challenges inaugural oath'. However, I do not believe in FORCING my beliefs on people. And believe me, I do not want some people trying to teach 'my' children 'their' version of religion.

Posted by: Jesus Loves Me Location: Washington on Jan 8, 2009 at 08:12 PM
Children must be taught about JESUS to prevent all of this violence. If the sorry parents won't teach them then the teacher's will have to teach them. Children must grown up with the love of JESUS and the fear of GOD. Children need to be threatened with hell fire, not time outs. Parents need to live a rightous life. Set an example, be married, go to church pray. Single parents and you folks who deny JESUS CHRIST, re-examine your life and realize this, it you can't raise your child right others can. Don't deny your child the chance to know the LORD. This nation is going to hell and I blame liberals and non-christians. WITN probably won't post this-just another example of the liberal media's agenda. GOD BLESS.

Posted by: Jesus Loves Me Location: Washington on Jan 8, 2009 at 05:36 PM
If you do not raise your child with the fear of GOD and the love of JESUS then they will not have morals or values. They will be shooting people and raping people. Jesus tells us how to live, we need to listen. Enough of this freedom of religion crap, this country is a gift from GOD. We need him everywhere, schools, courts, everywhere. Every family should be FORCED to practice conservative christian values-the way GOD intended. Non-Christians and single parents are the downfall of society.

Al,Obama Snake Oil Co, & Wolfgang, Exactly! Let me quote someone that most of us are familiar with....'Conservatism works every time it is tried'. And for you liberals out there about to jump on me about the last 8 years...THAT HAS NOT BEEN CONSERVATISM. So don't start ranting about George Bush and the rest of the RINOs. As far as the ACLU goes..........They are the leaders in corrupting the America we knew it. I can't say what I would do about them, because WITN would send it to the abyss. You get the point. I will say this though: The media in this country is the number one leader in all this. Why? Because they are the people that give all these nut jobs and nutty organizations a voice which in the end translates to credibility for some. That is why people get the idea that this craziness we are in is 'main stream'. If they never got any press to begin with, most of it would never have gotten enough traction to ever get off the ground and actually happen. There is power in the press.

To all Hello and hers my point of view: Put the Pledge of Allegiance and God back in schools .Most of all let the teachers start popping the butts of the ones who need it!Time out does not work for some kids .You have to treat each kid differently. I know I have 5 kids of my own.One does not respond to the same thing as the other. The other thing is to vote in a new school board and undo the mess these morons have made! I went to school with kids of all colors, but when you move kids out of the neighborhood they came from you have a tendency for problems. I am all for equal opportunity, but this was a case of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!! This is the reason why the U.S. is dying! Our government took out God because some non believer did not like prayer or the 10 commandments. And then they took out corporal punishment out because someone abused a child. The real reason was DR.Spock, and the ACLU. Put God back in and let the teachers have control of their classes. Parents need to raise kids at home

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Jan 8, 2009 at 10:18 AM
Wolfgang, good point, we had religion in the schools. I am sure you had a morning prayer and a pledge just like I did. You know, the 10 commandments that taught all of the basic rules of humanity? Vbush, right on the money again. This is why I pounded athesists with my past posting. Keeping religion away from your "kids" is self serving you for your belief. By the time they get older, it is too late. I was a teacher in the past. I can tell you for a fact that a student with religion and one without could be distingused very easily; not by grades, by how they got along with others.

When I went to Grade School in New Jersey. Back in the 1960's. We only had Fire and get under your desk Atomic Bomb Drills. We did not have to worry about Gunshots. What happend America?

Am I the only one who remembers about gangs at AG Cox, a deceased football player at Rose, vandalism at Rose, and resource officers breaking up student fights with mace, just to name a few incidents? Anyone have stats on the number of weapons and fights in PCS? If you want to discuss children in “war zones” or whose safety is being threatened then let’s discuss the most probable places for these children to be harmed. Sadie Saulter attendees can do little about the neighborhood in which they are educated, only Greenville residents can demand that the neighborhood be “cleaned up.” And for those economically minded posters, this seems a little more financially sound in these hard times than moving or rebuilding the school.

Posted by: T Location: Washington on Jan 7, 2009 at 07:36 PM
Chris,I am simply saying that if a student comes into school with a weapon, and with the intent to kill, or harm, then that student should take his/her medicine. I am not saying every teacher, faculty, etc. carry weapons. A select few who have undergone background checks, concealed permit classes, and many hrs. of range time should be armed.I can assure you I am no radical gun ownwer, however there are way to many psycho's out there who will kill. I,for one, am sick of these freaks. Police Officers cannot be everywhere all the time. If a situation were to arise, and I pray it does not, then it is a good possibility it can be neutralized without innocent lives being taken. Having spent almost 30 months in Iraq, I can tell you firsthand that bad people respond very quickly to superior firepower. I know this may sound irrational, but it is what it is. BTW, select correctional officers are armed. I respect your opinion, however we can all agree to disagree.

There is a difference between pounding and teaching but I chose the corect word. Children should be MADE to accept Jesus. If children that would not accept him were not allowed in schools we would have no more school shootings or pregnancies or drugs. Anyone who does not accept should be quarentined for they are truly mad.

If the parents knew how many shootings, robberies, and murders happen within a 5 block raius of this school they would be terrified. I feel sorry for the kids and parents. God bless

Are they still bussing kids across town, to go to schools that aren't near their homes? This is ridicules. Keep the kids in their own back yards. It's not fair to any of the kids that live in one area to be sent to a WAR ZONE area. The squeaky wheel gets oiled first; remember that all you parents, and start yelling about your kids going across town. Put a stop to this.

Thanks to board of education for shipping my kids across town to the WAR ZONE!

It has nothing to do with the school. Just the LOSERS around it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:59 AM
There was no confirmation that it was gun shots. I take my children to sadie saulter by choice, we are not in the schools district. I am pleased with the school, the staff, and the programs. My children have attended other schools in the area and these type of things happen no matter what school you are in. I hope the community will not overreact.

Posted by: Chris Location: Greenville on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:49 AM
Yeah, Teachers with guns, That is EXACTLY what we need!! SO when a 6'2 250 lb school kid over powers the teacher and takes his/her gun we now have ARMED students in the halls.. NICE! They do not even put gun's inside of a PRISON, can you imagine them doing it at a school? Some people just don't think before they speak..

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Jan 7, 2009 at 09:38 AM
T; Yes you can 'pound' it in their heads. Where do you think all the little radical Islamists come from? It surely isn't because they are left to their own studies and grow up and decide for themselves to become suicide bombers and killers of innocent civilians just having a sandwich at the local deli. They are bread and trained from birth. Ever noticed all the 5 and 6 year old kids in file photos and footage waving guns and flags? Kids are taught and emulate what they see. They are not born little killers or Christians. THEY ARE TAUGHT. Currently our kids are being taught by things like MTV and other equally enlightening forms of entertainment. So, in short....YES THEY CAN AND SHOULD BE TAUGHT.

Jesus Loves Me... I agree with your posting. That being said, the resident did the right thing by calling authorities. Could have been fireworks, or some dude killing squirrels in his yard, but why take the chance of not knowing. As far as prisoners, or students, you cannot pound Jesus, God, Allah, or whatever in their minds, especially if they do not want it. What we need in our schools are teachers, staff, etc. armed. It must be mandatory for those select few to go through all the courses, concealed permits, and lots of range time. I know there are many who have strong opinions about no weapons in our school. All I am saying is sick, mental, or violent people need to be dealt with, especially if they enter our schools with the intention to do harm. Maybe after that bullet has entered these whackos, I would bet they would find religion real quick. No person is immune from thugs who want to do harm. Eye for an eye is what I believe.

Posted by: Jesus Loves Me Location: Washington on Jan 6, 2009 at 10:11 PM
This is exactly why we need God back in our schools. If children new about Jesus then they would not be violence. The prisons are full of non-believing heathens and now so are our schools because parents need to pound the ideas of Jesus into their childs head.

I hope every parent that has a child bussed to that school will yank them out tomorrow and home school them

It was Sadie Saulter Elementary School.
