Gunfire Places School On Lockdown
Sounds of gunfire near a Greenville elementary school put the building on lockdown Tuesday afternoon. That lockdown is now over.

A Greenville elementary school was placed on lockdown this afternoon.
Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says reports of a shooting near Sadie Saulter Elementary School on Fleming Street brought about the safety measure.
It happened around 4:10 p.m. and a half hour later students were allowed to leave the building.
Mayo says the school has an after school tutoring program for children.
Greenville police say a resident heard gunshots several blocks away from the school, but police investigated and could not find anyone who had been shot.
