All 100 North Carolina counties experienced a rise in unemployment in November, with 17 posting double-digit jobless rates.

The state Employment Security Commission reported Tuesday that only Orange County's unemployment rate was below 5 percent in November. Edgecombe County had the highest jobless rate at 13.3 percent.

Among North Carolina's 14 metropolitan areas, Rocky Mount had the highest unemployment rate in November at 10.9 percent. The next worst-hit by layoffs was the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton area, where the jobless rate was 10.2 percent.

The metro employment picture was best in Durham, which posted a 5.8 percent jobless rate in November. Next best were Raleigh, Asheville and Jacksonville.

I think i've seen enough this county has been suffering for a long time and it will get worse. I have been here all of my life and it seems like edgecombe county can never jump the hurdle or finish at the finish line. The wages are poor there's no jobs and further more everbody not getting government aid. Most people who have stayed in edgcombe county or still do have to leave or find jobs in other counties because of under paid wages or lack of jobs or high light bills. So to me it don't come to any surprise that this county has the highest unemployment rate. Dont you just love our country land of opportunity!!!

You ain't seen nothing yet....For the past 25 years, people in this country spent money they didn't have, on things they didn't need, to impress people they don't like. Our consumer based ecomomy will get worse, with more out of control government spending and out of line ENTITLEMENT programs. I envision unemployment rates of about 10% and in 3 years INFLATION will sting the economy. Somebody will have to pay for our "nitwits" decisions in our out of control CONGRESS. Standby for heavy rolls!

Edgecombe Co. has one of the highest tax rates in eastern NC. A terrible drop out rate & no industry. this is no surprise!

Of course....the more kids people have, the more money the government gives them therefore, they don't have to work. Let's thank all of the taypayers for taking care of these people. Way to go Edgecombe!!
