A new suite style hotel is planned for Emerald Isle in Carteret County.
The new 53 room suite would be the first hotel in the town in decades. The hotel will be located on Crew Drive and Islander Drive and will also include a swimming pool, and shuttle service to the nearby beach access.
Developers have one final sewer permit to obtain before construction can begin. Mayor Art School says the new accommodations will boost tourism in the beach town.
George Spell, an original developer of Emerald Isle in the 1950's, is heading up the project along with developer Paxon Holz.
If approved, construction would begin on the hotel this spring.

More wealthy Yankees coming down South and buying up all the prime beachfront property.This just means more longtime North Carolinians will have to use the public access with its overcrowded space.

And we wonder why homeowner's policies for residents of Eastern NC are sky high!!!! I live on the water and I love the beach as much as anyone else, but over- development is part of the reason our insurance situation has gotten to the point it has. I certainly hope that the individuals building this facilility, make prudent choices in design and location. I don't mind sharing high premiums with those who have done their homework, but I detest having to pay more to live on the Albemarle Sound because some developer managed to build a "castle on the sand" within the reach of any Nor'easter only to see it to destroyed and then apply to rebuild with insurance money and government "bailout" loans.
