With President-Elect Obama's inauguration only weeks away many in the gun industry are concerned that the new Administration may take away some of their rights away.

We headed out to the S and D Gun and Knife show today to find out how the prospect of a new Commander-N-Chief is affecting gun sales.

"No doubt about it", says Sherwood Caraway owner of S and D Gun Knife Shows. "Obama being President and getting elected has definitely helped the firearm industry at this time."

Caraway says he doesn't know about the future, and thinks sales could possibly go way down if guns are banned.

A six year old shot his babysitter the other day. Funny thing is everyone is talking about what they would do if they got robbed around here, but that hasnt stopped criminals from robbing. And save the one pizza guy who had his gun... NO one has shot a criminal around here. Looks like the criminals are winning.

Hey Bob from Bel, I am a card carrying memeber of the Loudmouth Club. Some on this board are sidetracked the the original Amendment. The right to bear arms meant several things, defense and offense. Yes, Offense, if England or any country invaded us, many have, we had the weapons to protect our family and country. Now if the "the chosen one" wants to take away that right, legally, he cannot. By chopping up the amendment, he can have that done, he can remove them or restrict ammo and so forth. Well, if you are democrat, apparently, you didn't read his little pumpkin book. You also didn't know he is for socialism and runs with many socialist. You can find this interresting reading by buying his book online now, but you got to call now in the next 10 mins. Offer not valid in Californina or any other liberal state. You know the Chicago Political Machine, they don't deliver crap. Well, if you didn't read it its too late.

I think that every person killed in their own home with a loaded gun that the person in charge of said home needs to be charged with murder. There is no place for this type of accidents in the homes across America anymore.Take the gun owner to jail and leave him/her there.

Daryl Turner, You said it all I agree 1000%

The only way that gun laws will ever work is through enforcement of current laws. We already have laws against using a firearm in a crime. Enforce what we already have. Hand out mandatory prison time for crimes committed with firearms no if's and's or but's your tail is going to the slammer. There will be no plea bargain no probation until after you spend a couple of years in NCDOC. I will gladly pay more taxes to keep these people locked away.

JC; You go ahead and protect yourself from yourself...the rest of us will be prepared when someone with bad intentions tries to harm us or our families. While you are busy protecting yourself from yourself, hope there is a cop close by and not busy when you need him......the rest of us will be glad to send flowers once the funeral arrangements are made. Keep us posted.

I dont have children and I keep a loaded Glock at hand with a round in the chamber and in a holster to cover the trigger.Perfectly safe. A empty gun is of no use. Also, Wolfgang, if you are keeping that .45 auto safety on and a empty chamber, it will take a lot of time to ready it for firing with a lot of different motions to try and remember while waking from a deep sleep. You will have to take off the safety before you can rack the slide to chamber a round.I would suggest leaving the hammer down on a empty chamber with safety off. It still cannot fire with the chamber empty, and it will save wear on your mainspring with the hammer down, so it is not compressed all the time.Of course some people are just paranoid when it comes to guns and will always be afraid of one in the house, loaded or unloaded.

Posted by: WOLFGANG Location: CHOCOWINITY,NC on Jan 5, 2009 at 09:02 PM
Gun training is very important. I was lucky I was trained by the best the US Army had. I have a loaded 45 ACP Automatic at my bed side table for years. With a full mag, but there is no bullet in the firing chamber. No bullet can miracle it's self to fire unless I pysicaly put it there. Plus the safty is always on. No way will it fire unless I want it to No Way.

COP OR NOT having loaded guns lying around your house is lame as hell. That is why we need gun control, to protect people from their self.

Posted by: Rasied the right way Location: North Carolina on Jan 5, 2009 at 07:03 PM
My father was a cop so we have multi LOADED guns lying around our house..guess what me and my little bro are alive wanna guess WHY--because when we learned how to stand up and walk the next thing we learned was to shoot a gun (I was 2years old) Dad showed us guns are not toys we werent allowed to touch them without his permission bc we knew what they could do--he also taught me a valuable lesson a GUN IS LOADED IN ALL CASES EXCEPT WHEN IT IS IN PIECES!) Parents of these children are scarred to teach their kids about guns bc they fear knowledge leads to stupidity when its actually the complete opposite knowledge leads to smart decision! I am totally for gun control so many of yall said it--gun control laws are only there to put guns in criminals hands..does Obama realize this? I think not! I am scarred that he was elected I fear the next four years that life as we know it with guns could get really dim!

To Mike: Thanks for the support ! To Mary: I see what you mean, but don't think for a moment the anti-gunners won't get around to reloading components as well. I can see them raising the taxes on factory ammo as well as primers, powders, loading presses, etc. They'll likely raise them to a point where no one can afford them. Anyway, take care. Regards, C

I'll try again! I have never after any previous election seen the number of guns and amount of ammo I saw sold at the Greenville gun show last Sat. The dramatic increase in gun sales is a direct response to the "one's" election and his anti-gun beliefs. So his election had people buy more guns not less. To those who persist in name calling, I see no intelligent discussion comning from you, only childish name calling. So as I indicated call me a charter member of the "loud mouth club", gun nut, redneck ie. whatever. the little boy who cried wolf, did see the wolf when he came and if the ones who didn't believe him had continued to pay attention the wolf would not have consumed their flesh! Those of you who are happy about gun bans will be the first to cry for the police to protect you and your family. There are not enough police for each and every lawful citizen. I see the idiots have not read the ones book. Where can I get an atomic bomb? If you find this boring stop reading. Hi Snake

Posted by: Trucker on Jan 5, 2009 at 04:58 PM
No one has a right to label some one as being anti gun just because we do not believe Obama will take our right to own a gun away from us. I probably own more guns than most of you do. This gun issue along with the gay issue and the abortion issue is real old, it has gone for years so give it a rest.

The second amendment makes no mention of hunting, sport shooting or self defense. It is guns...PERIOD.The Bill of Rights is very clear that the government should have no ability to regulate ownership of guns. Some laws have been created that place limits on this right.Such as felony convictions and age.Should a convicted felon no longer have the right of free speech?Should a 17 year old not be able to speak their mind?I am a avid supporter of 2nd amendment rights and I can not convince myself that these restrictions are a bad idea.Because I can see some necessity in certain regulations I am also honest enough to see the stupidity in suggesting that gun laws aimed at law abiding citizens will ever stop a criminal who does not care about the laws. Crime stats show that having access to a 15rd magazine or AR-15 do nothing to increase/decrease crime.Anti-gunners say that pro-gunners need to remove emotion from their arguments but the reality is that the anti's are the ones who ignore facts.

I am just guessing that someone has never heard of the "right to bear arms". I suggest to the posters here to read "the chosen ones" book. Maybe this will give you some enlightenment as to "who" you voted for or who you are supporting. It will also explain why some of us gun supporting, freedom, types are concerned. Also, some of us know who has control of both houses and the presidency. This means look out brother, we are all going for a ride.

Posted by: George Location: Washington on Jan 5, 2009 at 12:54 PM
If you look back in history, it's been said that one reason Russia did not invade the US is because of the number of US citizens who owned guns. I'd say that was a plus. Someone said guns are out of control in this country, but by who - by the criminals in this country who would rather rob, steal & murder others to get what they want than be upstanding citizens. Guns don't kill people, low life criminals kill people. It's a shame this man wants to take away our constitutional rights, but we all knew that before election time (well some of us did.)

Posted by: ACE on Jan 5, 2009 at 12:37 PM
Have any of you ever heard of the little boy that cryed wolf so many time no payed any atention to him any more. You all are like that little boy, no one hears your mouth moving any more. This gun scare you all dream up has gone on for fifty years at the onset of every election, you are pathetic.

Hello Bob, "shes going in Nell". What this would do to the US is disarm the citizen. So if you are really going to create a Socialist government, as the Chosen One talks about in his book, you disarm first. So comrads, wellcome to your change. Enjoy!

Allen; The Constitution gives us the right to keep and bear arms. It does not say 'except an AK-47'. Boo-Boo has AK-47s so why can't Bubba?

Posted by: Allen Location: Greenville on Jan 5, 2009 at 06:48 AM
The Constitution gives us the right to bare arms. Be it for personal protection, hunting, or some other recreational purpose. While I think that this is a great thing and gives a lot of Americans piece of mind, "Bubba" does not need an AK47.

If you look at the statistics more people are killed in automobile accidents than with guns, so ie. lets ban automobiles. Lets see, with fertilizer and diesel fuel you can build a bomb (tim McVey) so lets ban those. The only ones upset about this are responsible, law-abidding citizens! Sure the gun dealers are making a ton of money right now, but the criminals aren't buying them, they are stealing them. Call me a "gun nut", "redneck" or whatever you wish. you sling barbs, but you apparently lack any intelligent point to make as all you did was act like a child on a playground calling names. This "gun nut" just re-joined the NRA and reloads his own ammo. If the "one" does ban guns and increase ammo tax all he will do is create criminals from law abbiding citizens. I know of nothing more serious he or congress could do that would cause any bigger civil unrest! The "one" is the one who caused this dramitic increase in gun and ammo sales, with his draconian acts!

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Jan 4, 2009 at 07:11 PM
Mary, enjoy the freedom of making your own ammo while you can. Only 16 shopping days left until the coronation.

I'm tired of all the bleeding hearts out there. One thing people need to remember is that guns don't kill people - people kill people! By taking guns away from law abiding citizens then you're protecting the criminal!Oh but wait - all these law makers have the money or we pay to have them protected so they don't have to worry in their nice upscale neighborhoods. What's next? Banning knives and rope? They kill too!We can't even have a dog to protect us because if that dog bites an intruder we can get sued and maybe the dog put down - we're sitting ducks to criminals. Government controls too much of our personal lives now - it needs to worry about the bigger picture - this economy. Whenever the government sticks it's nose where it don't belong things become a bigger mess. The founders of this great Country are rolling over in their graves!

Why be sorry. If Obama doesnt try to ban guns, no harm is done. But if gun owners sit back and wait and he does ban them, it will be too late.I dont think it will be so much Obama as it will be Charles "Schmuck" Schumer, Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pukelosy,Teddy"the drunk" Kennedy,or any number of other liberal bleeding heart criminal loving Dumbocrats. If one of them sponsors a bill for gun control and gets it passed by the House and Senate, I do believe Obama will sign it. His past record speaks too loudly to not believe it.

The real reason the Libs want the guns is because they will then be able to move forward with break neck speed on their main agenda with out fear of an uprising by the 'real mainstream America'. That would be all of us gun toting, church going, hard working types that don't have time for demonstrating and whining. We are the actual real majority in this land and they know it. We just don't make as much noise as the left wing, liberal, anti everything, secular progressive crowd. If they push too hard and too fast it will cause an uncivil war and they fear that. All this mumbo jumbo about the greater good and public safety in general is Hooey!

Posted by: Daryl Turner Location: Pink Hill on Jan 4, 2009 at 11:31 AM
There are hundreds of millions of gun owners in this country, and not one of them will have an accident today. The only misuse of guns comes in environments where there are drugs, alcohol, bad parents, and undisciplined children. Period. Ted Nugent Will Barack Obama ban guns? Is he a friend of sportsmen? Lets look at his record He endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership. He voted to ban the use of firearms for home defense. He proposed a bill to increase federal taxes on guns by 500%. He opposes right to carry laws. He voted to ban ammunition used for hunting and sport shooting. He is seeking to increase federal taxes by 500% on the sale of firearms ammunition and weapons he says are commonly used in firearm deaths. Mr. Obama comes from Chicago a city with one of the highest crime rates in the country.Chicago also has the most strict gun laws in the country. So where did an anti gun law stop a criminal? The second ammendment was not about duck hunting.

The state of Michigan has an organized state of modern day militia. I believe that an organized miitia is just what NC needs. The best army in the world is every legal citizen owning a firearm to protect state and province. When our president elects bans certain types of weapons that legal law abiding citizens present day can own, this just means that the guy coming into my home @ 3am is out gunning me. The us governement should think twice before listening to this ridiculous proppsal. You ban certain types of weapons on a federal level, this also means that law enforcment personel cannot carry these weapons to protect you when you need it most. When this ban takes place and the peoples constitution is thrown out the window, I will be the first person to sign up for an organized militia. The government should fears it's people, not the people fearing their government.

Bet the thugs robbing a greenville store are not allowed to own a gun but carry one anyway. This poor owner should purchase one, take shooting lessons, and put up a signing warning the next low life of the consequences.

Kingfisher said it beautifully....what the Dems can't seem to grasp is that if honest law-abiding citizens are banned from having guns, that means more in the hands of the non-lawabiding citizens who don't hesitate to do things legally which means more crime and violence....Why can't the Dems figure this out?

Posted by: Tim Location: Fayetteville, NC on Jan 4, 2009 at 10:05 AM
Banning guns only stops the law-abiding people, the bad guys are always going to get their guns and now everyday people are not going to be able to defend themselves. tell me how many stores you hear about a law abiding citizen who legally owns guns goes around robbing places or robbing banks.

Why should gun owners be concerned? We only have 2 of the most anti-gun Senators elected to the executive offices, Obama-Biden. They leave Schumer, Feinstein, Kennedy and friends to carry on in the Senate. Oh, and remember the Clinton name associated with the Brady Act. Add to that Obama has stated he supports gun confiscation, a natioanal law prohibiting concealed carry overriding state law, and voted for a 500% tax on guns AND ammunition. NOOOOO, why would we concerned????

Never Happen; There have been many things that have happened in the last few years that I certainly thought would never happen. You can surely believe one thing, the Democrats are in control as of Jan.20th. There are enough of them to give it one hell of a try. DON'T THINK IT CAN'T HAPPEN. With that said, they will have one hell of a civil war started if they succeed. There will be civil disobedience on a scale not seen since the Revolutionary War. It will be UNcivil.

Just tlike the Clintons tried to get all the guns banned before. did not happen and it will take a lot more than Pelosi and Brady and a few more Fruit Cakes in their class of DEMOCRATS to get it done. The Assault ban was successful in some ways but it died when GW BUSH came into play. Did it stop the violence, did it keep the guns out of the criminals and mental people from killing and maiming ?? NOPE! O Bama will have to be a bigger man than he is now and to bring down the guns. I am for gun control : You hit what you aim at and that is the only real gun control we need. I am for background checks and classes for Carry concealed permits. I had to get mine so I can carry to protect my self and my family when we are out on the town shopping for groceries and what ever else needs to be done.If the morons ban any guns we can just kiss out hind ends good by!
