The verdict is in. Thursday morning, a jury in Raleigh decided former CIA contractor David Passaro is guilty of assaulting an Afghan detainee who later died. The 40-year-old Passaro was the first American civilian to be charged with mistreating a detainee during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A federal jury convicted him on three counts of simple assault and one count of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. No sentencing date has been set, but Passaro could serve more than 11 years in prison.
