Missing money from an EMS squad has lead to the arrest of a former employee.
Beaufort County deputies say Michelle Cutler has been charged with embezzlement. Last month deputies received a report of fraud from Chocowinity EMS. They reported Cutler, a former lieutenant with the squad, diverted funds through paychecks and cash advances for her own personal use.
The 35-year-old Cutler, who is from Plymouth, turned herself in on Friday. She was released on a $10,000 bond.

WITN.. It is time to close this forum. As someone stated before, the damage has been done. Michelle made mistakes. I can tell you ,without reservation, I have also made MANY mistakes. We are all imperfect humans living in an imperfect world.I feel as long as this forum is active, the healing process will not begin for anyone. CEMS and CVFD will continue to provide the citizens of Chocowinity the services you deserve. The time for bashing each other must come to an end, and as long as WITN keeps this active, it is not helping. This is the holiday season, and I wish all a prosperous New Year.

Tommy, Crystal and Patrick, I support you all in the statements that you have made here and I know them to be true. I know that the 3 of you, along with many others at CEMS and CVFD, will continue to provide the best emergency services you can possibly give just as I know you did while I was a CEMS employee. Best wishes to everyone at Choco and thanks for the great work you do on that side of the river! Stay safe and keep your heads up!!

If you know me then you know its hard for me to say nothing in times such as this...I agree with the comments left by of course the anonymous "Resident and Friend" and anonymous "me". Thanks to WITN for their time but its time to close this comment forum and move on to another story like..."Chocowinity EMS Saved a Life Today" or a story about the history of Beaufort County's EMS, Fire and Police Departments. If I remember the story correctly, The hearse operated by Paul Funeral Home was the first EMS unit in Beaufort County or how Washington's fire brigade (volunteers) rang bells to alert volunteers and passed buckets from the ice covered river to put out multiple house fires or how one of Beaufort County's first officer was shot while apprehending a murder suspect along the old railroad tracks in Edward. He later died. There are so many wonderful and heroic people in Beaufort County. Merry Christmas and may God Bless all of you.
