Good Samaritan Turns Out To Be Gunman In Greenville Save Email Print

A Greenville woman was shot by a man she thought was trying to help her while she was standing on the side of the road.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Police say the woman was pulled over on the shoulder of Thomas Langston Road near South Bend because she had a flat tire.

The 22-year-old told police the alleged good samaritan offered his help, then hit her in the back of the head with his gun and robbed her.

The victim did not realize she was shot until she went to the hospital because she was suffering from head pains. The shooter is still on the loose.

Why didn't this story get more publicity? We need more awareness to violent crimes like this. Remember the shooting at the convienient mart off Hwy. 11 not so long ago? The tougher times become the more prevalent these crimes will be! Stay safe and stay alert. I'm always on the defensive when out and about, I hate being this way, but I warn my family to do the same!

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Dec 5, 2008 at 09:51 AM
Uhmm no, sorry but your comments are just more blathering nonsense. I never said anything about rounding anyone up, although I would like to round up habitual offenders and keep them locked up. A small group of habitual offenders is responsible for the vast majority of crime. Once again from the top, this is not about your silly feelings, it is about statistics and probabilities. Although it is certainly possible that you may get robbed or assaulted by a white person, it is much more likely that the perp will be black. That is not racist or non-racist, it is simply a statistical fact. Your statement that "anyone is capable of commiting a crime" is so generalized that it is meaningless. My 86 year old grandmother is technically capable of commiting a crime but if you are in the parking lot at the mall I would keep a closer eye on the thugs than on my granny and the rest of the quilting circle if I were you.

hey if you want to profile, i think statistically MEN commit more violent crimes than WOMEN, am i right? i mean why not round up all the men and keep an eye on em to make sure theyre not going to do anything they shouldnt? that was for tad. seriously though, anyone is capable of committing a crime. be on the lookout no matter what and dont drop your guard. you dont have to be scared just be smart. im glad this lady got out of this situation with her life. i was robbed at gunpoint once, and that was all, and it traumatized me for a long time, i cannot imagine what this did to someone! its scary and you have nightmares for the longest time. i pray that she will have peace and strength!

I am so disappointed on how comments are being posted on this website. Everyone should be praying for this young lady and her family. I live in this subdivision where this girl was shot, so I should actually be the one that needs to worry. This is a very good neighborhood and when I heard this I was shocked. So people stop all this non-sense and keep the family in prayer.

Linda Sue, no need to point out FBI websites, I study the statistics at the FBI crime stats sites often, including the one table you listed. It is just one of many tables. You have confused the point and the facts completely. I have no idea why you are asking if some crimes are "okay" and some "not-so-okay". Your statement "there should never be exceptions rules are to be followedd by ALL races of people." completely misses any point related to crime stats and profiling. You are either very confused or you are intentionally blathering on about nonsense to confuse the very basic truth in statistics. Political correctness is illogical, it's about feelings, not facts, so it is pointless when looking at hard numbers (statistics). It is a simple fact, blacks are statistically far more likely to commit violent street crimes against strangers than whites are. If you need help understanding the FBI crime stat tables let me know, I'll help, but check your fear of offending at the door.

what kind of a man will beat down a woman then shoot her in the head...? What a good job this guys parents did on teaching him how to treat a lady.

Just wondering why this website did not post my comments?

In North Carolina, if someone puts a gun to your head and demands money, do you have the right to kill that person? Or will you go to jail for murder?

Posted by: Tom Location: Creswell on Dec 3, 2008 at 10:42 PM
The bad thing is he probably will never be caught. BUT what goes around comes around. He will end up getting murdered himself in a drug deal gone bad probably. He was a crack head guaranteed.

I trust no one, and I have low expectations for everyone....guess what? I'm never disappointed!

I took your advice and checked this site in regards to FBI Crime Stats: (http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2007/data/table_49.html-Arrests, City by Race). Doesn't quite answer the question of racial profiling which is really not offensive to me. I think any person who commits a crime should be dealt with appropiately no matter what their race is. Any crime is committed is bad no matter what race commits it or what the crime is. So is crime committed by any other race considered the "exception"? Racial profiling only brings fear of one group of people when ALL groups commit crime. Check out the stats on the site I posted. Yes Black people have higher rates on some crimes but this does not eliminate any group and there should never be exceptions rules are to be followedd by ALL races of people. There is not anything such as okay crimes committed by one group and not-so-okay crime committed by another group. Crime is crime no matter who commits it.

O my Goodness!! What is this world coming to. You can't trust anybody anymore. I travel by myself alot late at night coming from work. You have to be mindful that people dont care about themselves so you know that they dont care about anybody else. People are getting hard up for money now. They will do anything. We all need to be careful. Just be thankful he didn"t kill you!!

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Dec 3, 2008 at 09:26 AM
Linda Sue, the exception should never become the rule, it should continue to be viewed as the exception. Check the FBI crime statistics. Racial profiling may be offensive to you and politically incorrect, but it is logical and accurate by the percentages.

Posted by: To Russell 2 on Dec 3, 2008 at 08:02 AM
O yeah, because motorists racing down the highway never got anybody hurt, or killed right? Good Russell. Go through the academy, and get out there and save the world for all of us. To "To Russell"; Thats exactly what it sounds like to me! LOL! But, good luck on the congratulating part. People like him never acknowldedge the good things that cops do.

Posted by: To Russell on Dec 2, 2008 at 11:15 PM
Sounds like you have gotten a ticket or two and have an axe to grind. Traffic cops make up about 10 or so of the almost 200 officers they have. Its a shame that this happened but its not the fault of the police. When there is a story about the guy getting caught I hope you will be first to congratulate them on a job well done

Posted by: Russell Location: Winterville on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:42 PM
Maybe if the Greenville police worried more about REAL crime rather than setting speed traps on Arlington/14th Street crime might be down. Oh wait, that would involve getting out of their cars and facing REAL criminals!!!

Posted by: Jasper Location: NC on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Get your Conceal and Carry Pistol Permit ASAP before Obama becomes President in Janurary. Only the Criminals will have guns then. We all might have to go to work with a helmet and a kavlar bullet vest on? I wish he tried to help me a got a 45 acp automatic.

Posted by: Linda Sue Location: G-Vegas on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:28 PM
Carl Kazion--The "racial profiling" comment can really go both ways. If you take a look at the world today, there are black, brown, and yes even white criminals/thugs in this world. People need to stop being blind to the truth of the matter. Not to take anything away from the story, but my daughter was pistol whipped and robbed a couple years ago and it was NOT by a black person(Only got her food and a $5 cubic zirconia ring). The fact of being "mugged" makes you paranoid in itself. As a result I unfortunately trust no man, woman, or child and put nothing past anyone these days. And I have taught my daughters the same thing to trust no one. My prayers to the young lady and her family.

Posted by: confused Location: greenville on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:01 AM
so did he hit her in the back of the head with the gun and then shoot her? Or did he just hit her with the gun? How do you not know you have been shot ???????

What time in the morning was it. 1:am or 8:00 am when she was going to work. This would be helpful to know.

I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm a good friend of the victim, and she is doing just fine now. We're now on the lookout for the guy who did this to her. She was treated and released from the hospital and seems to be making a full recovery. Thank you everybody for the support and I'll let her know :)

Posted by: Concerned Citizen Location: Greenville on Dec 1, 2008 at 06:29 PM
I hope that the woman recovers back to full health and her hospital stay does not put her in financial bind. I guess that now when a true Good Samaritan stops to help out that for their protection and the person he/she is helping they need to stay 10-15 ft away from each other. This is so sad and the reason why people dont stop to help others anymore. Not to mention that people nowadays dont accept the help anymore. Something that everyone needs to remember is to drive to a well lit area if you do have a problem.

Posted by: Carl Kazion Location: Good Ol' NC on Dec 1, 2008 at 06:05 PM
Do a little "racial profiling" and you'll find it easier to determine WHO YOU CAN'T TRUST in North Carolina.

Since crooks will always have weapons and don't care anout the law anyway. We really need to protect our Second Admendent at any cost. One swing vote on a panel of only nine unelected judges can take that right away. What will happen if we ever loose the right to defend our family and country?

Posted by: Cat Location: Gboro on Dec 1, 2008 at 12:36 PM
Betty: Do you think that the guy would have done what he did had a cop been right there? Thats why these things tend to happen when cops are not around, and they can't be everywhere at once. Its a terrible thing how some people are. To try to make somebody think that they are there to help them, and then victimize them like that. I hope they find this guy soon. Be careful out there!

Posted by: Blog Refuter Location: NC on Dec 1, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Okay, let's settle this issue of trust. You shouldn't go around suspecting everyone is a criminal, but you shouldn't suspect everyone as an angel either. Oftentimes, the way someone carries him/herself speaks tons about their personal characteristics; this is not always true, but it's generally the rule. However, NEVER be TOO TRUSTING of ANYONE because it leaves room for others to take advantage of you. So the moral is always be vigilant!

Posted by: The Pirate Lady Location: Grimesland on Dec 1, 2008 at 11:21 AM
No, unfortunately, you can't trust anyone these days, and I'm sorry, it's not paranoia, but common sense. Yeah, you should't expect every person you come across to be a psycho, but that woman didn't expect to be pistol whipped and shot either.

Posted by: betty Location: cortland on Dec 1, 2008 at 09:15 AM
Did you ever think maybe this sick O planted something in the road to flatten peoples tires so he could rob them? Just an idea. If you see someone coming to help you, start your car and get out of there. A rim can be replaced, a life can't. By the way, WHAT IS GOING ON IN GREENVILLE? THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE BY THE DAY. WHERE ARE THE COPS??????

Posted by: Clifton Location: Washington on Dec 1, 2008 at 08:02 AM
If he didn't have a club or a knife, he would have beat and strangled her. Maybe he would have just ran over her. Bottom line is guns don't kill. People do. This thug was intent on robbing someone by any means he could be it be by gun, stick, knife, pipe, broke beer bottle, or what ever. The method is not the problem. PEOPLE ARE.

Posted by: Trusting Tom Location: Chocowinity on Dec 1, 2008 at 06:42 AM
So ... "you can't trust anyone" ... is that a fact? What a load of bull! I guarantee that if you have trouble and I offer help, you can trust me. You can trust a lot of folks, if your wild-eyed paranoia doesn't cause you to be suspicious of everyone. A good heart doesn't distrust everyone. If you have a lick of sense, you will arm yourself so that you won't be defenseless when the untrustworthy try to prey upon you, and you'll extend trust until it's proven that your trust is violated. You should also be aware of what sort of person is approaching you. Statistics tell the tale. Pay attention to what kind of people commit most of the crimes in a local, and you'll know the kind of people to be wary of. It isn't every sort of person that is known for random violence and theft. Use your head when it comes to trust.

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Dec 1, 2008 at 01:24 AM
Do you have the discription of the assailant? How come we never get discriptions anymore? Maybe somebody would have a tip! Sorry Dave, it's not about guns, it's about thugs! If he didn't shoot and pistol whip the poor young lady, he would have clubed and stabbed her.

Posted by: beware! on Nov 30, 2008 at 10:25 PM
you should always have in mind that there are people out there waiting for an opportunity to harm you. im not saying its always the case or to act paranoid, but just to be on guard and be smart. i remember when i lived in a bad neighborhood and was moving out of my apartment at three am--i put my tv next to my car in the parking lot, ran upstairs (to my open door) to get some more boxes down--when i came back downstairs, my tv was gone! (haha on whoever stole it since it was broken)but it goes to show that people are watching. try not to put yourself in a vulnerable position. women with children are very vulnerable bc they are focusing their attn on the kids, putting them in carseats, more worried about their safety in a robbery situation etc..not in a position to defend themselves easily. this time of year is the worst for criminal activities, so try to stay safe!

To all: These are the days thieves and robbers are on the loose in a rampant style!! It was unfortunate this young lady confronted such "evil!" Please be viligant at all times, carry a cell phone, stay in the car until proper assistance arrive on the scene. You can't trust really anybody these days. We, all must pray and hope grace & mercy stays upon us. Take care

This just goes to show you how crazy people are today! I hope they find the man that did this and hope he never gets to see the outside ever again! My thoughts and prayers go out to the the young lady and her family.....
