LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Thanksgiving Day family gathering in Las Vegas turned tragic when a television set fell on a 4-year-old boy and killed him.

Police say the boy was playing with other children Thursday night at a home when a TV atop a dresser fell on top of him.

Police say it was not immediately known how the TV fell on the boy, but foul play is not suspected.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name wasn't immediately released.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time of grief and especially right before christmas. As to the comment of the governmatn making TV's lighter. That is absurd. The gov. has enough to worry about than the weight of a TV. We have to use common sense around our homes. Our children should not be left unsupervised and if there is a chance of something like this happening then we need to take extra precautions to try and prevent something like this from happening. It is a freak accident that happend and nobody thought it could. Maybe this will wake some people up and they will not have the mind set that this wont happen to my child.

Accidents happen.I see one comment that the government should make laws regulating the weight of TVs.There is TOO MUCH government regulation now. It would have been the same if the child had darted in front of a car. Or drowned in a swimming pool.Or stuck something in an outlet and got electrocuted.Or fell off a bike and hit his head. That is why they are called ACCIDENTS.Do you want a govt. regulated car that will not go any faster than a child can run?Or how about a govt. regulated pool that will only hold a half inch of water?Or all bikes(including adults because thay can have accidents too) be required to have training wheels at all times? Or household electricity govt. regulated to be no more than 1 amp? No matter what the government regulates, there will still be accidents. Unless they mandate that everyone live in a bubble.Then I guarantee you someone will have an accident building the bubbles.

This is sad. Accidents do happen, but the t.v. must not have been on a very sturdy support. "Chas", there are t.v.'s that don't weigh so much, but they may be costlier.

Awww...This is a sad story and my thoughts & prayers go out to the family. I am sorry that his poor little body could'nt stand the weight of the tv. Maybe the government should look at making it where the tv's should'nt weigh so much!

What a tragedy. Televisions can be very heavy. We had one once that weighed a ton. They require a very solid base. You don't want to put a large heavy set on a wobbly stand. A solid TV stand is a good investment. This is a very sad story.
