The Whichard's Beach area was the place to be this afternoon, a front row seat to the 2006 Super Boat International Grand Prix.
The 5th annual event hosted by Fountain Powerboats got underway on the waters of the Pamlico River at 1:30 Sunday afternoon. The boats were in a number of different classes, but all raced at the same time. Plus with this race, it isn't like a car where one person controls the steering and gas. In boats, one person accelerates, while another steers. Its just a great event to watch for everyone.
There was food and drinks on hand in case the weather turned out to be extremely hot, but luckily Mother Nature cooperated with nice temperatures.
