35,000 Pounds Of Chicken Flip Over On I-95

State troopers say I-95 is now fully open after a tractor trailer load of chicken overturned early this morning.

It happened around 4:50 a.m. in Halifax County near the weigh station at milepost 151. One lane northbound was closed until 11:30 a.m.

The Highway Patrol said the driver of the Perdue Farms truck fell asleep, with 35,000 pounds of chicken on ice flipping over. The chicken was being transferred between Perdue plants in Rockingham, North Carolina and Dover, Delaware.

The driver was charged with careless and reckless driving and failure to maintain lane control.
