The heat index soared into the triple digits again Friday making it unbearable outdoors. But imagine turning on your air conditioning and nothing happens. That was the reality for thousands of residents in Pamlico and Beaufort Counties Friday when a transformer failed knocking out power. After being out of service since 3:00 a.m., Progress Energy says power has now been restored to all 4,900 customers. They also say the transformer didn't fail because of the hot weather.
