Police say they have solved a rash of robberies that have plagued businesses in Craven County over the past several months.

Two people, Johnny Dickerson and Nicole Thomas, have been linked to nine robberies in New Bern, three in Craven County and three in Havelock.

Police describe Dickerson as a career criminal who was released from prison in August. He's in the Craven County jail under a $1 million bond.

Detectives say the agencies involved combined forces to investigate the robberies at convenience stores, hotels and restaurants during the past two months. A tip from a citizen led police to a possible vehicle used in some of the robberies.

Dickerson was charged with three felony counts of armed robbery, 10 felony counts of common law robbery, two felony counts of attempted robbery, three felony counts of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery, 10 felony counts of conspiracy to commit common law robbery and two felony counts of conspiracy to commit attempted robbery. He made a first appearance in court this morning.

Thomas was charged with three felony counts of conspiracy to commit an armed robbery and 12 felony counts of conspiracy to commit common law robbery.

Here is a list of the robberies:

Oct. 26, the Fuel Warehouse on Glenburnie Road, New Bern and Riverdale Fuel Market on U.S. 70 East, New Bern.

Oct. 27, The Hampton Inn Hotel on Hotel Drive, New Bern and Buzzard's Corner on N.C. 55, Cove City.

Oct. 29, Jim Dandy convenience store in Havelock.

Oct. 31, Parker's Town and Country Store, on Trent Road, New Bern.

Nov. 2, Spunky McDoogle's on Glenburnie Road, New Bern.

Nov. 3, The Dollar General on Main Street, Havelock.

Nov. 4, The Trade-Wilco on Glenburnie Road in New Bern.

Nov. 5, attempted robbery at the Family Dollar Store on Neuse Boulevard in New Bern and the robbery at Domino's Pizza on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, New Bern.

Nov. 6, The Hampton Inn Hotel in Havelock, Beech Grove convenience store on Washington Post Road, New Bern, the attempted robbery of the Bojangles' on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, New Bern, and the robbery at New River Pottery on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, New Bern.

It's hilarious how some of you complain of tax dollars all of the time. While I feel your pain, I do not understand your logic. Regardless of how many people are in prison, the same amount of tax money will be withdrawn from your check each payperiod. It's not like the government is going to say, "O.k., we've locked up less people this year. We can now give you a tax refund." Get real, folks. As I mentioned before, we have a choice: let them continue to rob businesses or lock them up so that they cannot commit crimes against the larger American population. Whatever the choice, there are disadvantages. However, I believe that the advantages of locking them up far outweigh the disadvantages of doing so.

this scum deserves the death penalty, why let them absorb our tax dollars when they will never change.lets just keep them fed and watered, and use the gym and watch tv, all at our expense, you do the math.

Posted by: pete Location: greenville on Nov 21, 2008 at 04:20 PM Now we can try him at taxpayers expense, lock him up and feed and house him and make him nice and comfy for years to come. Pete you got to be kidding. These guys will spend more time in county jail than in any prison and then will get time served and be released.

Pete, that's right; unless we want to let him continue to rob businesses. I don't think that it's a crime worthy of death...
