East Carolina University is suffering from budget short falls. A new proposition Thursday has students paying more.

The proposed increase in tuition and required fees is 2.4 percent -- or a total hike of 94 dollars per year. The Board of Governors limits yearly increases to 6.5 percent. The lack of revenue is forcing many North Carolina institutions to raise costs. Chapel Hill proposed a 6.5 percent bump and N.C. State could double costs from a year ago. East Carolina University has one of the lowest proposed increases for next year. Students say -- money is tight already.

The ECU Chancellor's Executive Council say they will wait until mid-December to make a final decision on the proposed increases.
