Pepper Spraying In Schools Has Some Pulling Kids Out Of Class Save Email Print

Brawls in the middle of the school day have occurred more and more it seems for Pitt County Schools. In some cases, the fights have led to resource officers pepper spraying students to break it up.

Wednesday, three students had to be sprayed by resource officers after the situation started to escalate. And this isn't the first time this month. These fights at the school have become a cause for concern. For Carol Wright, she says this is a deeper issue -- one that begins with respect -- not the use of force. Last year her son attended J.H.Rose High School and decided to take him, along with the rest of her school aged children out of Rose and home school them.

Administrators at Pitt County Schools say they'll increase supervison during the lunchtime period changeover to make sure students don't congregate, but they also called parents and asked them to talk to their students about the consequences of their actions.

This problem is only going to get worse with the direction we have taken as of recent. The time for change is now, our children depend on it. Find out more at the pcasu blog.

WHY does EVERYTHING in this world ALWAYS turn into a racial issue somehow??!! That's obsurd. The big problem here is PARENTS (for the most part)! Not only that but if kids now days could get a butt whooping like I did then we may not have as many of these problems. These high schoolers can be sprayed with pepper spray (which I'm not neceassirly against) but they can't have ahand laid on their rear from HOME?! Notthat to me is a MAJOR double stadard and is just NOT right!

It's obvious that the current Rose Administration isn't getting the job done. Time for a change @ the top. Then, maybe when a new administration is in place, they will support the teachers in the classroom who are the first line of defense against further incidents like this. The racial divide in that school grows daily. I've heard plenty about it.

Out of school suspensions for the bad seeds with mandatory counseling and have their parents in court being held accountable for their actions. When parents are forced to take responsibility for the kids and suffer consequences for bad behavior perhaps little Johnnie and Janie will get the kind of dicipline at home many of us older adults received, a leather belt of hickory stick. Our generations don't have the behavior problems caused by the parenting methods urged by today's namby pamby psychologists.

What does that mean...."begins with respect"? Is she referring to the kids or the officer? Has anyone walked through a high school lately?! These kids are huge! Most of them are the same size as an average grown man or bigger! These officers are expected to break up a fight among, generally, more than two students. Teach your kids to behave at home and not attack, physically or verbally, other kids. In the county I live in, there is an "alternative school" that has very few kids. The administration in the local schools have to jump through all kinds of "hoops" to try to get these troublemakers out of the regular classes and 80% of the time, they are not accepted. I am referring to kids that have actually tried to burn down the building!! These kids sneak brass knuckles under gloves, knives and box cutters, and they don't hesitate to use them. Don't blame the officers for doing what had to be done. Be thankful that they are there to protect the REAL students.
