Former State Lawmaker Pleads Guilty To Conspiracy

A former state lawmaker and onetime ally of House Speaker Jim Black, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to accept $50,000 in campaign contributions. Michael Decker is a former State Representative from Forsyth County. Prosecutors say Decker, in exchange for the money, switched his party affiliation from Republican to Democrat before the 2003 session and supported a specific candidate for speaker. While Black wasn't mentioned by prosecutors, he was the only Democratic candidate for speaker and Decker's support helped him remain co-speaker. Sentencing is set for November first.
