Eastern Carolina got its first real taste of winter today as snow flurries have been spotted a many locations.

There are reports of flurries seen in Beulaville, Chocowinity, Greenville, Jacksonville, Kinston, LaGrange, Tarboro, Snow Hill, Washington and Windsor.

The snow in our area has been melting as quickly as it falls.

On the other side of the state schools closed in three counties after light snowfall made roads too icy for buses.

I was in Jacksonville for the winter of 1989, and it was no joke, I believe it was reported as 12 inches of snow 2 days before Christmas.

Local Girl.. I have lived here (jax/maysville) all my life (30 yrs) and have never seen but 1 white christmas and that was in 1989... use to have a good snowfall (every 7-8 yrs) of 1 foot or so... but nothing like that since 89... where/when were we had 3-4 feet deep snow in the jacksonville area???

Posted by: Local Girl Location: Jacksonville on Nov 20, 2008 at 07:43 AM
You know, we even saw a few flakes falling in Sneads Ferry, not much though.

Posted by: Local Girl Location: Jacksonville on Nov 20, 2008 at 07:40 AM
I grew up here in Jacksonville, NC and I remember several white Christmas mornings with snow drifts 3-4 feet deep. It's been about 15 years since we've had snow like that though. So, don't give up hope.

Wow! I am making T-Shirts with the following statement of the front, "I survived Blizzard 08 Jacksonville, NC 11/18/08 from 12:17 - 12:20." Let me know if anyone is interested in purchasing one. LOL! Let it snow!

You all like Snow so much try shoveling out of your driveway for 8 hours every week. Getting it off your car when it is 10 below 0 degrees. Work does not stop up North in New York State, because of a few feet of Snow. Even Schools stay open. Snow is just a way of life, and it is very cold and wet. Some people can not drive in it people get hurt. You know how many people die of Heart Attacks each year shoveling Snow. I hope I never see it again. That one of the reasons I move to Eastern North Carolina NO SNOW. You can have the cold white stuff. Good bye Snow

Snow Woman, where abouts in God's Country are you? I'm originally from the Miami Valley north of Dayton. Friends in Kent and Massilion and relatives in Toledo and Hamilton. Mein frau is from Cincinnati.

Thank you Thomas for sharing your story with us. Snow can be a wonderful thing to see. Being in Ohio as a child was like living in a winter wonderland. The Christmas lights reflecting off the snow is just beautiful. "God bless you all"

I use to live in New Jersey Near the Delaware River Water Cap. On the Kittatinny Ridge which is part of the Appalachians Snow Country. There is nothing move beautiful with 2 feet of pure white snow on the ground, in the trees, ice on the ponds. Kids playing ice Hockey. Christmas lights on the outside of the homes. The first Snow of every year my wife and I would drive to the park with a pond on it,and walk to the stream bridge. We would put our hands out to catch the snow flakes as they fall to the earth. It was very romantic and very spirtitual at least to my wife and I. Todays snow reminded me of those times so long ago. Have a good day and God bless you all. I hope we get more snow.

Posted by: Snow Woman on Nov 18, 2008 at 08:30 PM
