The National Weather Service, which keeps the official records on how hot it is, says this week may be close to being the hottest in more than a decade in Eastern Carolina. Records on file with the National Weather Service office in Newport in Carteret County, show it's been 23 years since we have had five days in a row of 100 degree plus days. Head meteorologist Tom Kriehn says it's also been ten-years since we had a string of 95 degree days. Kriehn says what we'll experience this week is a once in a decade event.
