North Carolina U.S. Sen.-elect Kay Hagan has withdrawn a defamation lawsuit against Elizabeth Dole over a TV campaign ad that Hagan said questioned her Christianity.

Hagan spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan said the dismissal motion was filed Thursday. The ad from Dole's re-election campaign questioned why Hagan attended a fundraiser hosted by an adviser to an atheist advocacy group.

Dole was criticized for running the ad in the final week of the heated campaign won by Hagan. Dole's campaign had said the ad did not question Hagan's faith, only her agenda and associations.

Flanagan said pursuing the lawsuit would only continue the focus "on a very personal and negative attack." A Dole campaign spokesman declined to comment.

Anomymous: No. Yhat is not what this tellls me. This tells me that Hagan won the election and is letting it go. Dole assured her loss by this desperate, pathetic ploy. Bye bye carpet bagger.

Tad, do some research on exactly what kind of fund raiser Sen elect Hagen was attending. It was NOT a Godless American's fund raiser.

The lawsuit was a symbolic act only. These suits never go anywhere because of laws concerning public figures. Besides the evidence was unquestionalble that Hagan cozied and took the Godless American's PAC money. You can't serve two masters.... Keep fluting "blog refluter".
