The federal government has announced a new plan to help homeowners facing foreclosure, but it may be to late for one eastern Carolina Couple.

Frank Leach of Chicod in Pitt County is six months behind on his mortgage and is being evicted Friday.

Leach, who lives in the home with his wife and son, was diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy and unable to work. Even with help from his son...the bills continue to pile up.

It wasn't until last month that Leach was approved for disability. But he says the mortgage company has told him it is simply too late.

With time running out it has yet to be determined if the Leach's qualify for the new home loan bailout.

to Tony: Sounds good to me. We can't sit and wait for the government to help. I feel their pain.

Maybe we should find out what mortgage company holds the loan so people can take their business elsewhere? I'm sure the mortgage company would redo the loan if the heat is turned up on their business practices.

The correct title of your story should be "...Too Late For Pitt County Family." To, too, two. There is a difference. Editor: The title has been corrected. Thank you.

How many for sale signs in Pitt Co alone and nothing is being sold...the economy is the worst in years.Everyone now is just lucky if they do have a job.We should at least help as many people as we can.If this man is approved for disability then why can't they wait ..they've waited 6 months on a house they won't sell in the next two years anyway.I'd rather donate money for someone like this man than to someone that doesn't honestly need it.Mortgage brokers aren't selling nor getting anyone approved for new home loans and builders are sitting on more properties now than ever.Everyone concerned go to ashley and donate for this family.

I understand what that family is going through. My husband is also disabled and we have to ask family members for help to pay our bills. My husband has neuropathy,he also has a disc diease. He is not able to work he has not worked since the first of 2007. He has been waiting since last year for disability (9-21-07)and has not received anything yet. If it wasn't for my mother and daughter we would have lost our home. But we are still two months behind. After awhile you get tired of begging people for money to help you. He has 7 different medication that he has to take. As of last month he has no insurance. They took his medicaid away because we don't have any small children in the home. So I understand where these people are coming from. So what is America coming to when people can't afford to keep their homes, buy food, buy medicine. My heart goes out to them. There is alot of Leach families out there.

Sounds like a really great idea Tony. There should be more people like you in the world.

I wander how much they owe? There are around 150,000 people living in Pitt county. If we all donate $1, and send it to WITN, that would likely be enough to pay off their home! We should all support this family. It's only a dollar? My name is Tony Howell and I am the owner of the Ashley Furniture HomeStore and am willing to head a fundraiser to help!

I know TONS of people who are in limbo from what I understand with their mortgage companies. Surely they will include this family. What is one more home? One more loan? Gosh! Things are rough for everyone. I hope it works out for this family! They deserve a chance like everyone else! Best of luck to you!
