The Beaufort County Commissioners and the Beaufort County School Board have reached an impasse in their $1,000,000 budget dispute. Negotiators for the two sides met behind closed doors Thursday night in Washington. The night ended with the mediator declaring the impasse. School officials say it was clear to them county officials didn't want to negotiate. County negotiators say they wanted to reach a deal but had to go back to the full board of commissioners. They say they wanted to do that and meet again in a few weeks but school officials refused. The school board has called an emergency meeting for Friday to decide what to do next.
