It's the hurricane people point to as the one that started the cycle of intense hurricane activity we have seen here in Eastern Carolina over the past decade. Wednesday marked the ten year anniversary of Hurricane Bertha slamming into our coast. It came ashore near Wilmington back in 1996, packing a punch into the Topsail Beach area. Bertha, a category two storm, started a wave of hurricanes that have slammed into our coast. Hurricane Bertha left eight people dead. And the storm left behind $250,000,000 worth of damage from South Carolina to Maine.
