The Highway Patrol says nine-year-old Brandon Lee Bricker of Rocky Point died in an accident on an All Terrain Vehicle, or ATV. Troopers say Brandon was headed south on the shoulder of Herrings Chapel Road in Rocky Point near the intersection of S.R. 1434 around 3 p.m. Monday, when he lost control. Troopers say Brandon veered off the shoulder into a ditch and ended up hitting a tree head on at 45 miles per hour. He died at the hospital in Burgaw. The Highway Patrol says Brandon was not wearing a helmet or face protection and was riding an ATV too powerful for a nine-year-old. Troopers say there was no adult supervising Brandon as required by law, and it's illegal to ride an ATV on the shoulder of a road.
