A holiday tragedy on the Outer Banks. The U.S. Coast Guard has given up the search for a man who went missing in the water off Oregon Inlet during a family vacation. Relatives said Vance Lowery went into the water to wash off some sand after a day of fishing on the inlet. He was in chest deep when they saw him suddenly fall flat and go under water. His family said the water was not rough. A massive search took place, to no avail. Lowery was from the town of Catawba between Charlotte and the Virginia border.
