Officials say a sports utility vehicle driven by Reginald Sampson crossed through the median on Highway 70 and hit a car driven by Washington resident Tina Tetterton. Tetterton and her two passengers were taken to the hospital. Sampson was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Charges are pending. The accident happened near the Slocum Gate entrance to Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station and snarled traffic along Highway 70 for miles. Cars crept along in bumper to bumper traffic from Havelock to just outside New Bern. No word yet on the conditions of the accident victims.
