United States Equine Rescue League officials removed 11 more horses from a farm near Vanceboro on Saturday.
Rescuers medically evacuated a horse on Thursday, but 11 more were removed on Saturday because the animals appeared malnourished and neglected. Rescuers said there was little grass for the horses to eat, and in some horse pens there was no water at all. One stallion that was removed was 8 years old, but had the malnourished body of a one year old. So far no legal action has been taken against the horse owner for any kind of neglect or possible abuses.
