Several horses in Vanceboro, Craven County, were found in extremely poor condition Wednesday night. The horses appeared to be starving, bones were showing and they were desperate to find something to eat.
The horses were on property on Powell road. On one of the horses we saw, his ribs and hip bones are visible, along with deteriorating hooves. We're told by concerned citizens that there are more horses inside barn stalls on the property that are in even worse shape. One of those citizens who is trying to get the horses help is Michelle Colucci. She has contacted law enforcement and animal control. Craven County sheriff's deputies were called to the scene and an investigation is underway.
