City officials in Jacksonville are continuing to monitor a dam which forms Elizabeth Lake along Dewitt Street. All of the recent rain raised fears the dam could be compromised by rising waters. City officials say specialized engineers could begin to slowly remove portions of the dam Thursday. An emergency ditch designed to lessen pressure on the dam has not significantly removed the danger the dam may fail. One residence has been threatened by the potential failure of the dam.
