Major art schools and several residents have started an online petition to try to save this coastal staple. They have nearly 8500 signatures. The town is working with the State's General Assembly to acquire a grant to help save the pier, as well as a partnership with the North Carolina Aquarium. Joyce Pierson, a North Carolina native, says the pier brings treasured memories to not only locals but thousands of vacationers. The city expects a decision to be made regarding the pier early this fall.
