Dean Smith Endorses Obama Save Email Print

Barack Obama received support today from one of North Carolina's living legends -- Coach Dean Smith.

In an e-mail sent to the Democratic presidential candidate's supporters, the retired UNC head basketball coach called Obama "a patriotic American, a committed Christian, a good family man, and a man who shares the bedrock values that most North Carolinians have in common".

Smith and his wife, Linnea, say the United State is in a critical juncture and that Obama is the right change in direction.

Smith retired in 1997 after leading UNC to two national championships. He previously had supported John Edwards for president.

This is no suprise, who cares about Deano?,much less Obama? We need to see if he is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN first and foremost!! It's funny how the networks have not "swarmed" on this news, yet they are worried about what Palin is wearing? Get a grip people!!! WAKE UP!!!

Why is this news? Who cares who Dean Smith endorses in politics. Dean Smith was a great basketball coach, how that correlates to presidential politics I'll never know. He also endorsed Matt Daugherty for UNC basketball coach several years ago. How'd that work out, Dean? It just goes to show that even the mighty Dean Smith doesn't always use the best judgement.

Posted by: Kathryn Location: 27858 on Oct 22, 2008 at 07:31 AM
Why is anyone surprised that Dean is voting democrat? Chapel Hill is one of the most liberal schools in our state. I could have called this, easily. Also, just because he is voting for Obama does not mean he is a bad person or bad coach. I am a republican and I love Dean for his accomplishments on the court, not for his opinion on politics.

I thought Dean Smith Had better sense Than that.I have Been a Carolina Fan Since 1974.Obaama Does not kow are how to run the country.Bad choice Dean.

HEY C, YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER! OBAMA IS LOST AND HE IS CONVINCING THE WORLD TO FOLLOW HIM TO NO WHERE! ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY? OUR PRESIDENT WITH A MUSLIM BACKGROUND? WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR PRESIDENT HAVING PATRIOTISM AND BEING A TRUE AMERICAN CHRISTIAN? OBAMA? HAS NO IDEA! MCCAIN WAS THERE AND HE KNOWS WHAT IT MEANS TO SERVE. HE HAS GOOD ETHICS AND MORALS. OBAMA? JUST KNOWLEDGE OF BEING MUSLIM!! HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT IT MEANS TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY. I LOVE DEAN SMITH, BUT WHO HE VOTES FOR DOES NOT CHANGE MY RESPECT FOR HIM OR MY MIND ABOUT A PRESIDENT WITH A MUSLIM BACKGROUND. IF MCCAIN HAD A MUSLIM BACKGROUND, THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM EITHER! READ THE BIBLE PEOPLE! THE BIBLE PREDICTED IT! OBAMA IS NOT RIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY, REGARDLESS IF HE IS A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN!

What is the purpose of his statement? Does he gain anything by mixing sports and politics? I don't care who he votes for. If I say I vote for X or Z nobody cares. That is because I am an average Joe. Mr. Smith is NOT an average Joe...

t.b.a.a-I replied to your post b/c I saw that YOU "went there" about Jesus. Don't bring religion into this if you don't want people to speak their mind. Honestly, I can't decipher most of what you are saying, you leave out words. Typical liberal.....speaking in codes. You think that Obama is the answer to all of our nation's problems. The TRUTH is that he is going to make things much worse. Open your eyes! Don't you realize that if he increases taxes for those who make $250,00 or more, including businesses, we will all feel it? I am so glad that my eyes are open and like "C", I don't drink Obama Kool-aid!!! Insult me as you will, you will see that us REPUBLICANS (and proud of it) are right!!!

Touched By An Angel, so you want to talk about evading the truth ? Obama has had a free ride from our mainstream media from day one. They have taken a much harder look at Gov. Palin than they ever have at him. This man only has his time as a ''community organizer'' to claim as experience. He has a 20 year relationship with a racist preacher, a long-time friendship with a domestic terrorist, and is LOST without his teleprompter. He glosses over all the facts I just mentioned and the mainstream media REFUSE to look into it [with the exception of Fox and talk radio]. THAT is ''evading the truth''. I'll gladly take a ''washed up old man'' who at least actually loves his country and served it with honor. Your guy can't make that claim. Do you realize that if this man were trying to obtain a job in the FBI, he'd be REJECTED because of the documented friendships I mentioned ? Yet, you Obama Kool-aid drinkers want him to win the Presidency ?! Wake up !

ECU Republican: You are painting with too broad of a brush. The current Administration is 100% Republican. The current Congress is approximately 53%/47%, along party lines. Now, I know that you may answer with bringing up the leadership in Congress, but the closeness in percentages alone of Congress vs. the all-Republican White House makes your statement dubious, at best. Your logic is contrived. By the way, I will be voting for Walter B. Jones, my local Congressman, for what it's worth. Liddy (where have you been?) Dole, on the other hand, bahhh! And good riddance.

Posted by: ECU Republican Location: Greenville on Oct 15, 2008 at 11:38 AM
If Bush and the Republicans are so bad why didn't your Democratic controlled congress do anything to help it in the past two years. They didn't accomplish a daggon thing but a couple of nice taxpayer paid vacations. I think if you look at the congressional approval rating you will see the winner of the next election. Some Americans might be fed up with Bush but more are fed up with congress and America will show that disgust by electing McCain.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil co Location: Washington on Oct 15, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Bashing Bush is easy, you don't have to understand the problems. You just follow "party lines" and believe anything they say about him. Of course you would go after him and blame will follow suit. Facts for you; Democrats run both houses, it failed on their watch with a 12% approval rating. They might loose control this year for that reason. The mortgage industry failed because Barney Franks and other democrats choose to ignore the problem and be on the "take". I am not voting for Obama, I am voting against a secular progressive liberal socialist by voting for McCain. I will wait until the democratic party puts a moderate at bat. Liberals will not win this country. Look at past elections and history, you just cannot trust them. Lastly, 80% of Americans are afraid of Obama. This leaves Boots and Lavon on the 14% of supporters of the guy. I understand ACORN will allow you to vote in every state if you register. Now theres corruption you can believe in.

To T, You need to read a post that you understand if there is such thing. It is for sure it is not my post. You saw what you wanted to see in my post just like a true republican. YOU see everything with your blinders on, YES I would say you are a true republican. If you people don't understand a comment please don't post a rebuttal. You do that to evade the truth within our post. McCain is doing the same thing to draw attention away from the fact that he is a washed up old man. Come on people Obama has three AAA in this game and after tonight he will have four AAAA the game is over folks.

Posted by: Boots on Oct 15, 2008 at 10:34 AM
To ALL Blogers, I am old enough to vote for my choice of a candidate with out being harassed and without approval from you. I have no intentions of voting republican. Eight years is eight long years to long "NO MORE OF THE SAME FOR ME" It is unbelievable that McCain has made one whopping mistake after the other and you all just smile and keep tagging along behind him, like good little sheep that you are I can hear you now babababa. You go vote for McCain and I will go vote for Obama. My vote counts more than your vote does anyway because I am from OHIO, just a little food for though :)

Oh you forgot to mention that GW Bush is without a doubt the most failed president in presidential history. You disn't mention that he singlehandedly took down this economy in his eight year term. You didnt mention the fact that he has the lowest approval rating in the history of mankind which is 16%. Just more republican filth and garbage once again. Tell the facts!!

You know, pro family, pro life, etc. Please don't tell me you believe that our Heavenly Father would support someone who is in support of letting newborns [who have survived the brutal attempt to murder them] die without any medical help?! Obama has not done ANYTHING to qualify him to be President. I can't believe he even won the endorsement. It is merely his skin color that is going to win him this election. That is a sad reality. Thanks ECU Republican, the secular progressive liberals ignore Obamas history and past dealings with shady, hidden facts but will attack anyone not voting for their canidate as being racist. This election is not about race, its about belief. I researched, yes, thats right, steered away from moveon and other liberal sites, watching Fox and CNN to learn the facts on the canidates. Obama has too much ties to a questionable past period. Its not about color, its about honesty. Some of us just aren't gullible to believe "party" lines. Ignorance is Bliss, this democrat will vote republican because I am not sheepist. I haven't fallen from a moderate position. Hillary was moderate, Obama is a secular progressive with an agenda, read his book, then post here.

George H Bush was in the Naval Reserve, Reagan was in the Army Reserves, Jimmy Carter was in the navy, Gerald Ford was naval reserve, Richard Nixon naval reserve ... and the list goes on...do your research. Once again you folks bring up race its not the issue for us but for ya'll its the whole issue. Ignorance is Bliss.

I could have sworn you had a natural born citizen to be come president. So far he doesn't have any proof that he was indeed born in the USA.Not to mention during the national anthem he didn't have his hand over is heart. With me it isn't about what color your skin is,it's about whats in your heart and the quality of your words.I am in the US Army and personally don't want him as my boss(commander and chief). That's just my opinion but I don't want John McCain either. He picked a vice president who has a pregnant daughter, but yet is against sexual education.I mean every single one of them have talked a good game but once their butts touch the chair in the oval office nothing changes. It all just stays the same or gets worse. So Obama can either prove himself as a natural born citizen or not,the ball is in his court.

I'm glad to see someone of Coach Dean Smith caliber come out to support Obama/Biden. I can't understand so much rheortic about "ACORN." ACORN wasn't important when just the "White Boys" were running for President and needed the Black vote. Now, we have a Black man name Obama who will win Presidency, go under so much scrunity because of his race. Clear differential treatment for the race(s) here. You figure out. I got it. Sad

I have seen some pretty crazy comments. Tis is a free country everyone can vote for whom they please. to tell you the truth why would a 72 year man be seeking office when he can sit home and rock his grandchildren with no problems. The only thing old I want is money and with Obama w I can have just that. Job, insurane, a strong economy, troop home soon, and no worries about my pension and 401K being secured.

As a 44yo white man, I think it's great that someone of his stature has the"balls" to say he endorses Obama in this election. just read this blog, it will show u how racist this state still is. And to hide behind your racism as "a conservative christian" is really sad. to vote for or against a person because of their idealogy is fine, but because of the person's skin color is sickening.

I think everyone has a right to their own opinions and if Dean Smith wants to endorse Obama, thats his choice and noone else has anything to do with it, you are choosing who you want to vote for aren't you? I think everyone else had a chance, so why not give Obama a chance. It's going to take sometime anyway to clean up the mess that President Bush has gotten us in.

I have seen the LIGHT! I will now vote for Obama. I mean I have to, right? If a retired basketball coach supports him, then he must be the best candidate right? I will follow along like the dutiful sheep that I am and cast my vote based on another man's opinion and not my own. Thank you Dean Smith for doing my thinking for me.

Posted by: Edward Location: Dudley on Oct 14, 2008 at 04:26 PM
It is truly amazing just how much difference the color of a man's skin is making in this election. Never has America had an opportunity to vote for someone of color and now everybody is downing the world's best basketball coach just for endorsing. Give peace a chance and vote your convictions and leave your fellowman alone to vote his. God bless you and remember: It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought ignorant than to open it and remove all doubt.

Then coach Dean can stand before the Lord Jesus Christ when it is judgement day and explain why he voted for a candidate who allowed hands to shed innocent blood by trying to bring partial birth abortion back to fruition. There is going to come a day where all that have taken part in this are going to answer to their maker for killing of innocent babies. If there should be change it should be that the 10,0000 babies that have been aborted in the United States since January 1st not have been allowed to take place! May God have mercy on this nation!

Touched by an angel indicated that GOD was neither Republican nor Democrat. Of course that is true, but thed question is do you believe all Christians (infedels) should be put to death, do you believe in killing babies (even if un-born), do you believe that Praying should be forbidden in schools and other public places. If the answer is NO then you must vote for McCain. Obama's party and the man himself support these beliefs even if he now denies alot of it for political gain. As for Dean Smith he should have stuck with basketball because it is obvious by his comments he knows nothing about plolitics. It is really sad when you do anything to keep in the lime light. Why would any right thinking american turn the government over to a man whose beliefs are all others must die!!! He has no experience and he will say anything to get elected. I am a full blooded Democrat. Some of you think that only Republicans can see how untruthful and immoral Obama is but that is not true. Obama helped to train some of the ACORN volunteers and he donated almost a million dollars to help them round up people to vote for him. He denied this but some of the workers have already admitted to it. Dean Smith was a good coach but he must not keep up with the facts. He has been swayed by WORDS, but if he would take the time to look at Obama's voting record over the years he would be surprised and dismayed. Do you think Obama has changed his mind about raising taxes on the middle class. He says he has but I think he's fooling us until he gets into office. He's pretending that he's a centrist but look at his voting record. He's the 3rd most liberal senator. I don't want to give up my freedom and live in a socialist state.

I don't think that ACORN really came to being until Obama was selected from the primaries. The guy registered 73 times as a democrat as he was instructed. I don't think John had evidence that ACORN did this two years ago since he wasn't running for president. Mr Whitehurst, since you were never in McCains shoes, you resolve from posting on his war record. I know war too, McCain is and will always be a war hero. The Hanoi Hilton didn't getted tips from the occupants for staying with them. John didn't get frequent points for staying there. How many times can to take to be beat to near death? This democrat votes McCain Palin this year. I don't like what my party has become.

The hero's are those POWs that did not break and sold their country out. John McCain is no more hero than I. I would like to think that I could face my captures and never divulge anything but name, rank, and SS#. When I was overseas and some soldiers 1/4 cav were captured in Albania/Macedonia. Upon their release they lauded as American Hero's. No one take into consideration that they were in the wrong place and surrender to people who were outgunned. All I ask is to do what is best for the whole country instead what best suits you as an Individual. McCain is more of the same using fear instead of hope.

Yep, they should have put a "pen" around Chapel Hill a long time ago. I think ACORN and the media are trying to make the decision on who gets elected for us. With a Ohio guy who registered 73 times by ACORN, well, lets just say this is how the liberals want to level the playing field. We hear from Fox that the same is happening in NC but we don't see it on the big three. All are in the Tank. Leslie, republican or democrat are not the problem. The liberals are the problem. These are the people that don't want mention of "God" anywhere in society. You know, the ones that took the 10 commandments out of the court houses and schools. This is the liberal/ACLU agenda. However, it is OK to have foot washers for muslems in schools. Dean has always been a liberal. He was a great coach, just misguided by politics. He still thinks the democratic party is just that. With the liberals now controlling it, Pelosi and Reid...well, enough said.

It is so comical how many of you make the most contradicting statements ever. You say, "Who cares who Dean Smith endorses?" Then you repeatedly post comments about his endorsement. If you did not care, you would not post in the first place. Just the simple fact that you pose the question asking who cares, shows that you really care. Otherwise, it would evaporate from your mind as soon as you read it. However, the truth is that you all care. You care that he endorsed Obama and you hate it. You're so full of hatred that all you can do is sit and think of any and all of the despicable lies and rumors you can think of. That is immoral, my friends. I sit back and laugh at you all because no matter what the result of this election is, there will be changes, and some of you may not like those changes. But, we live and we learn. We cannot stay stuck in the past, we must progress and move forward.

As I read some of these comments, I am truly amazed. God is neither Democrat or Republican. The implication that if a person votes for one party over another indicates whether that person is a Christian is so wrong. Thankfully, there is such a thing as the separation of church and state. Again, I say, vote your conscience and enough of trashing one another. Dean Smith, like every other citizen in this country, has the right to vote however he chooses. If you disagree, then vote the other way. Please enough is enough. These hate-filled comments are more disturbing the closer this election gets to November 4th. Get a grip, people!

Why should we care who Dean Smith is voting for? We can't stop him even though I feel that he is making a huge mistake. Anyone that goes against the Bible has no right running or winning. Dean Smith is not so important a person that will influence my decision on who to vote for. Come on WITN People should keep their voting to themselves. Its personal.

This is just proof that our national AND local media have become sickly bias! Who cares that Dean Smith endoresed Obama. How can Dean Smith say Obama is a "committed" christian and the he shares our values? He sat under a so called pastor that preached racism and hatred for many, many years. You can't possibly tell me that he's a christian while sitting in Wrights congregation and voting for partial birth abortion, plus supporting many more liberal agenda's. I'm sick and tired of folks overlooking these radical positions of Barack Obama. May God help us if Barack Obama becomes President.

It's too bad Jesse Helms idea of constructing a wall around Chapel Hill didn't come to fruition. It would sure be nice if Coach Smith and the rest of the Chapel Hill bleeding hearts couldn't infect the rest of the state. It's scary to think some people will actually vote for Obama solely because Dean Smith endorses him.

To Touched by an Angel: You have go to be kidding me. Jesus endorse Obama. You obviously are not in touch with the Chrisitan Bible. Jesus would never endorse Obama because he supports abortion, infanticide, stem cell research, and gays. He is the exact opposite of what Christ stands for. You should do some research before you post such a ridiculous comment.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 14, 2008 at 07:51 AM
Hardcore For McCain; The liberals not only don't care Obama has never served, most liberals don't care about our military in general. If it was left up to them, we probably wouldn't have anything more than a National Guard and some sort of Coastal Defense Force. Most of them loathe the military. It represents a standard that they could never measure up to. Sacrifice, Service to our Nation, Discipline, and Personal Responsibility. Those are all character markers that no liberal could ever or would ever want to be identified with. So in answer to your question: NO, it does not bother them.

Posted by: HARDCORE FOR MCCAIN!!! on Oct 14, 2008 at 07:24 AM
Does it bother any of you who are Obama supporters that he has NOT served in the U.S. military? Do you think that our military stands a chance with him as president??????

Is there some reason why who Dean Smith is endorsing for the Presidency is news? Why would anybody care? Moreover he was a basketball coach at the well known liberal college of UNC, is this actually some kind of surprise in anyone's eyes? I don't care anymore about his opinion than I do about Martin Sheen's. Anyone that is going to be swayed by what Dean Smith is doing isn't his/her own person anyway. Bottom line: WHO CARES?

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 14, 2008 at 06:29 AM
Dean Smith has the right to vote for whoever he wants without people saying he has dimentia, lost his mind, whatever. I could say the same about anyone voting for McCain. Or McCain himself, because he can't remember what he talked about yesterday, because he changes is message everytime I hear him. He'll say anything to get elected.

Smith has lost his mind, old age I guess, but he also voted for Edwards. Now, who cares how Smith votes? He obviously don't know right from wrong anymore and now wants to put a muslim in the White House. I sure hope he and a lot of Democrats will read up and study that mans History before election day. There's more to being an American and Freedom and we had best come home from the "Ball Game" and get serious.

Posted by: Kathy Location: Jamesville on Oct 14, 2008 at 03:35 AM
Dean, you have lost your freaking mind. I guess old age has made you seanile. A vote for Obama is a vote for the islam extremist and a vote for the lazy and trifeling who do not want to work for a living but have people who do work support their sorry butts through higher taxes and additional taxes. It would not surprise me if he created a project tax.

hey elcid89--- My question to you is---just who are the stupid portion of the electorate? I would submit to you that it is the ones who want the nanny state to continue bleeding us dry while propagating this public/private partnership of government and business which has created a welfare subculture along with a corporate welfare structure. For your information, the founding fathers insisted that less government was the best government. I defy you to present any evidence that the founding fathers feared majority rule. The Bill of rights is the limit that was placed in order that minority interests would not be trampled. Other than that, majority RULES. I already know who the stupids are. I do not want "exceptional" leaders unless that means that they are moral, sensible and constitutionally literate people who love America and insist on the rule of law. Other than that they should be citizens just like the common everyday individual. They are not special, they are servants.

Posted by: Leigh Location: Williamston on Oct 13, 2008 at 11:17 PM
Okay Coach Smith...I still love ya and UNC Basketball. Although you are entitled to your opinion, I can't back you on this. Go McCain/Palin 08!!

Posted by: elcid89 Location: NC on Oct 13, 2008 at 09:33 PM
In reading through these comments, many of them inspire me to remember the founding fathers and their reticence at placing too much power in the hands of the masses. There's a reason they went to such lengths to insulate the execution of power in America from popular influence, and many of these comments serve to brilliantly verify that their concerns were not misplaced. In other words, how can we expect our leaders to be exceptional when it's clear that a large portion of the electorate is amazingly stupid.

BARACKS HISTORY Rezko was one of Obama's first major financial contributors when he ran for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was instrumental in providing Obama with 'seed money' for his U.S. Senate race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwood District of Chicago for $1.65 million (less than asking price). With ALL those Student Loans - Where did he get the money for the property? On the same day Rezko's wife, Rita, BR purchased the adjoining empty lot for full price. The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama's new home was purchased. We here at Carolina are generally known to be a liberal school. There are some conservatives here, but they are highly outnumbered by the liberals. However, I consider myself to be moderate. Here at Carolina, we believe in freedom, justice, and equality. The plea of the Honorable Dean Smith is the same as the plea of many here on the Carolina faculty and staff as well as that of UNC Hospitals. UNC Medical School Researcher/Nobel Prize winner Oliver Smithies also endorses Obama. He says to observe the two candidates' health care policies, and clearly Obama's is far superior. Here at Carolina, we are called "Heels for Obama." I'm a Tarheel born. I'm a Tarheel bred. And when I die, I'm a Tarheel dead. So, it's Rah, Rah Car'lina 'lina. Rah, Rah Car'lina 'lina. Rah Rah Car'lina. Rah Rah Rah.

Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that where born in Pakistan? They are in charge of all those 'small' Internet campaign contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East? And the final bit of news. On September 7, 2008, The Washington Times posted a verbal slip that was made on 'This Week' with George Stephanapoulos. Obama on talking about his religion said, 'My Muslim faith'. When questioned, 'he made a mistake'. Some mistake. All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barack Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett: Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981 The Washington Times - September 7, 2008; The Times May 10, 2008. Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own, Why haven't all of our 'intelligent' members of the press been reporting this.

Posted by: John Location: Greenville on Oct 13, 2008 at 07:01 PM
Is anyone surprised that Dean is a liberal? He always has been, big deal. If you vote for someone because of a basketball coach you are misguided at best. The economy started a sharp rebound, the focus will shift and people will come to their senses and vote for McCain.

Posted by: Marwan Location: NC on Oct 13, 2008 at 07:00 PM
Now, we have Obama running for President. Valerie Jarrett, was Michele Obama's boss. She is now Obama's chief advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz, Iran! Do we see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy? On May 10, 2008 The Times reported, Robert Malley, advisor to Obama, was 'sacked' after the press found out he was having regular contacts with 'Hamas', which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran. This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, hewas having regular contacts with 'Hamas', which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran. This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers reported that during Obama's visit to Iraq, he asked their leaders to do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will 'Take care of things'

Hey, Anonymous, you're right. It is great news..IF you happen to be an America - hating domestic terrorist like William Ayers. It is great news..if you want a President with only his time as a ''community organizer'' to pass for experience. It is great news..if you want a President who will try to appease our enemies rather than fight them. It is great news..if you want a President who spent 20 years in the church of a racist preacher. It is great news..if you want to see the law-abiding citizens stripped of their Second Amendment rights while the criminals get to keep their guns. Pardon me if I pass on that tall glass of Obama kool-aid, thank you very much. Give me a decorated Vietnam vet with years of senatorial experience anytime, and a former mayor/current Governor too. Obama has NO EXPERIENCE ! So, Smith is for Obama ? Smith, one of our state's more famous liberals ? Wow, who would've seen THAT coming ?! Next thing you'll tell me is that Clay Aiken is gay or something.....

BARACK HISTORY After Columbia, he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for $12,000 a year. Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York. By 'chance' he met Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and a real estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and bribery this year. Rezko, was named 'Entrepreneur of the Decade' by the Arab-American Business and Professional Association'. About two years later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the money for Law School? More student loans? After Law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job, which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented 'Rezar' which is Rezko's firm. More History to come.

BARACK HISTORY Around 1979 Obama started college at Occidental in California. He is very open about his two years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to his studies. 'Barry' (that was the name he used all his life) during this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid, both from Pakistan. During the summer of 1981, after his second year in college, he made a 'round the world' trip. Stopping to see his mother in Indonesia, next Hyderabad in India, three weeks in Karachi, Pakistan where he stayed withhis roommate's family, then off to Africa to visit his father's family. When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York.It is at this time he wants everyone to call him BARACK not Barry. More history to come.

If you want a sizeable tax increase and more of your money going for freebies to the folks who are too lazy to get a job, vote obama! There are jobs out there if you want to work. Dean Smiths' endorsement for obama does not surprise me at all. He also endorsed John Edwards.
