The manhunt for a recently released inmate ended peacefully this morning.
44 year old Tony Watford is back behind bars and charged with assaulting a female..his daugther, and for violating parole. Authorities may also file additional charges that he kidnapped a female acquaintance. Witnesses tell us that's the same person he kidnapped back in 2004, serving two years in prison.
It all happened in the Bertie county town of Powellsville.
Sheriff Greg AtkinS tells WITN, around 12:30 Sunday morning, Watford came to the woman's home. His daughter tried to stop him from going in, but was assaulted in the process, according to authorities.
Watford, possibly armed with a knife, took the victim into the woods, says Atkins.
Deputies and Highway Patrol helicopters searched throughout the night for Watford and the woman.
But It wasn't until 7:30 this morning, deputies say, the woman walked out from the woods, with Watford close behind her.
Atkins says he was arrested without incident, now they're investigating if a kidnapping occurred.
Watford is in jail under a $80,000 bond.
