There's good news for those traveling to the beach from the west...or those here in the east headed to Raleigh.

The D.O.T. today broke ground on the first phase of the Goldsboro bypass for U.S. 70.

The four mile section of freeway will run from Interstate 795 to Wayne Memorial Drive at a cost of $65.5 million.

The D.O.T. says the first leg should be complete by 2011. Eventually the bypass will stretch from Highway 581 in Wayne County east to Lenoir County.

Why is the North Carolina government still funding this project and starting to build this portion of the bypass when the United States economy is in such a mess? Surely we could put this money to a much better use for the people of North Carolina who really need it, rather than making sure individuals with beach houses get there faster with less stoplights on the way to the coast!

Thank goodness. I no it is only one job, but it will give many construction workers a job.
