A Beaufort County man is dead, believed to be a drowning victim on the Outer Banks Thursday.
Authorities say 43 year old Peter John Deakin of Washington was swimming in the ocean at Nags Head Thursday night. Officials say another man saw Deakin floating face down and pulled him to shore. Efforts were made to revive Deakin to no avail.
There's no word why Deakin went under, town officials say he had been swimming without any problems. The National Weather Service tells us conditions at Nags Head included some residual effects from Alberto, including three foot waves and the threat of stronger rip currents. There were several rescues Thursday in that area.
