Published reports out of Rocky Mount say 3 year old Ah' mauria Dancy died Thursday after being hit by a car on Wednesday.

The man who is accused of hitting her and then driving off could face other charges.

Previous Story:
An arrest has been made in last night's hit and run involving a three-year-old child.

Rocky Mount police say it happened at the intersection of Barnes and Cherry streets around 7:15 p.m.

Police say 19-year-old Emmanuel Coley returned to the scene approximately two hours after the accident. He's been charged with felony hit and run and for driving without an operators license.

The victim was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where police believe she is in critical condition.

I understand that you cannot watch your child 24/7, as I have a 2 year old. But at 7:15PM, my daughter is inside eating dinner about to get a bath. If you have children, you need to key-bolt lock your doors and put the key somewhere your child cannot find it. I do that with all my doors and my child is safe. There is just too many children getting killed to preventable mistakes!!! God Bless this family!

teacher, "i" "thhink" you should "ceck" YOUR spelling before you "critize" anyone "else;s" spelling! Some of you people are unreal!!! If you really are a teacher, that explains why so many children are illiterate.

I was at Pitt county Hospital when this baby showed up and you could not tell if it was a male or female all I knew is it to be a child. She did pass away on Thursday night. The good Lord needed another angel and he got one! My prayers are with the family at this horrific time. May God rest your soul you sweet child.

There are obviously some people in this forum who don't have children. I have a three year old son that I have to watch 24-7 and he still was able to get half way down my driveway before I noticed he opened the garage door and got out. Thank goodness I live on a pretty quiet street but we still have people drive by doing 55 in a 25 mph speed zone. People need to slow down in residential areas as kids do get out of the house, get out of their parents grasp and are just doing what kids do. I can only pray that she makes a full recovery. Also, 19 is young and with no license I am sure he got scared. Still no reason to leave but at least he came back, I am sure his conscious got to him.

Ok so he returned WORNG for leaving in the right place and he is being charged WHY are the parents not being charged for neglect in the fact that the 3 yr old was able to be in the street or close to the roads edge?

What I want to know is what the freak is a 3 year old doing in the road? Seems to me 2 needs to be arrested.

At least he went back to face the consequences. This guy is just a kid himself. He ultimately did the right thing.

I would like to know what a three year old child was doing on the road at 7:15 at night. Where were her parents? But Coley should have realized that he hit a child and should have stopped no matter what the situation. Its a very sad story and my prayers are with the little girl. I pray for her recovery.

This is comforting to know that someone that leaves the scene of a crime is charged with a felony, but a woman who was drunk and hit and killed a child and who stopped will only get off on a DWI charge. Boy I hope the system is proud of itself. I know this man was not drinking, but leaving an innocent child in the road and not stopping to check to see if the child was OK. What in the world is this world coming to. I guess if he had of been drunk, he would of stopped and just gotten a slap on the wrist like the other lady did. GO FIGURE AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!
