It's now safe to drink the water in Atlantic Beach. A boil water advisory for the town was lifted Friday afternoon.
The Carteret County Health Department says followup tests show that the bacterial contamination is no longer present in the water.
The health departments says residents and businesses should first flush out supply lines going to water fountains, hot water tanks, soda fountains and coffee makers. You should also replace water filter cartridges along with washing and sanitizing any food contact surfaces before using them again.
Original Story
One town in the east is waking up with a warning to boil their water or use bottled--officials say there's bacteria in the water supply.
Atlantic Beach officials in Carteret County say they found total coliform bacteria in the water system. That means the 18-hundred people who live in Atlantic Beach, and anyone else visiting, should be boiling water for one minute for they drink, cook, brush teeth, make ice or wash hands with it.
The other option, of course, is to use bottled water. Officials did not release where they think the problem started.
