A young woman was killed yesterday in a three vehicle accident.

It happened just before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday on Hugo Road, west of Grifton in Lenoir County.

Troopers say 22-year-old Alexian Melhado of Grifton was headed north on the highway when her van crossed the center line and struck a truck. The driver of the truck, Tony Taylor, was flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Troopers believe his injuries are not life-threatening.

The driver of the third vehicle, which was driving behind the van, was not seriously injured.

I attended high school with Alexian and Lidi and I could never forget either of them. I say either because back then they came as a pair. I am so sorry for your loss Lidi and if I had your number I would call. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Alexian, I miss you so bad. You inspired me to live life to the fullest, because you don't really know what you got til its gone. I wish I could spend just one more day with you. You were a beautiful person, inside and out. You made me laugh and feel like family the first time I met you. Alexian, you are my guardian angel. Last night, I couldn't help but to think that it was all just a dream. You were so free-spirited, and I wish I could've shared many more memories with you. I couldn't wait until Thanksgiving, until I could spend time with you and my whole entire family, and get to meet my new uncle, Dallas. Daddy, Dallas, Aunt Lidi, And Abuela & Abuelo, stay strong. Alexian, you will never be forgotten. I love you and miss you.
