A young woman was killed yesterday in a three vehicle accident.

It happened just before 6:00 p.m. Tuesday on Hugo Road, west of Grifton in Lenoir County.

Troopers say 22-year-old Alexian Melhado of Grifton was headed north on the highway when her van crossed the center line and struck a truck. The driver of the truck, Tony Taylor, was flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Troopers believe his injuries are not life-threatening.

The driver of the third vehicle, which was driving behind the van, was not seriously injured.

I attended high school with Alexian and Lidi and I could never forget either of them. I say either because back then they came as a pair. I am so sorry for your loss Lidi and if I had your number I would call. My prayers go out to you and your family.

Alexian, I miss you so bad. You inspired me to live life to the fullest, because you don't really know what you got til its gone. I wish I could spend just one more day with you. You were a beautiful person, inside and out. You made me laugh and feel like family the first time I met you. Alexian, you are my guardian angel. Last night, I couldn't help but to think that it was all just a dream. You were so free-spirited, and I wish I could've shared many more memories with you. I couldn't wait until Thanksgiving, until I could spend time with you and my whole entire family, and get to meet my new uncle, Dallas. Daddy, Dallas, Aunt Lidi, And Abuela & Abuelo, stay strong. Alexian, you will never be forgotten. I love you and miss you.
May Angels lead you in<3

Alexian was my sister in law, and even though it's been years, I was so excited for her to be having a baby. She was always a beautiful young lady. Ali, we will miss you, and I am so sorry Elena and Alex Sr and Lidi and Alex, for your loss, I can't even imagine, and I never want to know what this feels like. I guess God needed two more Angels up there... it doesn't make it better or take the pain away. I do hope that they didn't suffer. I wish I could come up there for the services - again, I am so very sorry. I can't say that enough. I'm with you all in my prayers, and if you need anything...I was always blessed to have you all as family. Ali, your nieces will miss you terribly - and they hope that you and Dallex are resting peacefully in Heaven. With deepest sympathy and love - Dee

Alexian use to come and stay the weekend with my niece at our home when they were in high school. There laughter could be heard throughtout the night. The next morning when you would think they would be tired from talking all night, Alexian would come around the corner singing and still smiling. I pray for her and her family. She will be greatly missed by my niece and anyone who knew her.

I had left comment on News paper article but I wanted to make sure I was heard. Ali was a beautiful sight for sore eyes, and heart. She has meant a lot to me for the past few years, since meeting her. She made an impact on my life that noone could ever take away. She had a heart most dare to dream of having. I want her parents to know I'm hurting for them, her sister, brothers, and family. Most of all the child we never got a chance to meet! There isn't one memory I will forget or leave behind of her. I love you Ali! We talked so much about her future with her two boys. She loved you Dallas and your unborn son. I'm also sorry to you. Keep your head up all, she is still here in our hearts, and helped make up some of the soul we will always carry. She has a little Ninja with her!

Ali was loved by all. She had a light around her that reflected on others everyday. Heather is right though, memories exist forever, and I believe that The Lord does things for a reason, and though we do not find it fair to us, I know that she must be in a better place than this. This is a tragic situation and all of our prayers are with the Melhado family right now.

As I sit and read all of the beautiful words written about my niece Ali, it brings me to tears because I never got to know this precious soul.I only met Ali when she was an infant and in pictures.I wish I could turn back the clock just enough to tell her that I'm sorry that we never met and that I didn't get to "know" her. Ali I know it's late, but from the botom of my heart I love you. Lidiann your Tia Gina loves you!!! I'll see you soon to tell you face to face how much I love you and I hope to get to "know" you.I haven't been a very good Tia, but let me start now.So to all of us who procrastinate and say "I'll do that tomorrow", take time to do it today.Make time for that special someone, call a long lost relative, amend broken relationships.Tomorrow is not promised.Ali you will forever be in my heart. To my brother Alex and Elena I love you.

I don't even know what to say I find myself at a loss for words. Ali was very close to me and I loved her very much. This seems like a nightmare that I can't wake up from. I know that Ali and the baby are at peace now. I pray that God lay his hands on all of Alexian's and Dallas' family and friends and give us strenth and understanding to get through this. Ali was such a beautiful, smart, and sweet woman. The world has lost a wonderful person, but heaven has gained an angel. I love you Ali always, and I will never forget all the memories and laughs that we share. Thank you for the beautiful friendship you gave me.

The world has suffered a huge loss. Ali has impacted the lives of so many. My prayers go out to her family and loved ones. She is a wonderful person who has created many good memories in the lives she has touched.

She was my sister, she was carrying my nephew inside her. She will be missed by many and especially our family. Thank you for all the many supportive comments and kind words. We appreciate everyone who has texted, emailed, called or stopped by our home. We have been dealt the biggest loss of our lives and we will continue to miss her everyday. She was the most beautiful person I have ever met. She was a best friend to everyone. I love you Ali.

Why is it that no one announced that instead of 3 people it was 4. and that not only 1 person passed it was 2. Alexian was 7mts. pregnant. If your going to report this story PLEASE don't forget the innocent party!

Posted by: Heather on Oct 9, 2008 at 02:13 PM
And Angel, you are absolutely right. Some accidents cannot be prevented and eveything happens for a reason. When it's your time to be called home, you're going, and there's no stopping it. Rest in peace Ali and Dallex. You will be forever missed. All I have left is memories but memories can last a lifetime. I love you girl.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to all of Alexian's friends and family. Dallas, keep your head up sweety, these are hard times and they will eventually pass. The lord has welcomed Alexian and Dallex with open arms. Everyone please have peace in knowing that they are both in a better place.

I am one of Alis bestfriend, since highschool and I loved her so very much, and just can't wrap my mind around the fact that shes no longer there. I will never be able to forget the memories and good times we had together. She was like my sister, and will just miss her so very much. Nothing and no one will ever be able to replace her in my heart. I love you Ali, I'll never forget. Rest in peace with Dallex and the angels. And I will see you someday, up there in heaven. Make sure God takes good care of you. Loving you alway ~ Joy Baker

And to mister wolfgang. I sapose your perfect and have never mad a mistake and always colored in the lines as a child right?? Or have never been distracted but anything in your life. Accidents are just that accidents.

While Alexian's family has suffered two unfathomable losses, please remember Tony Taylor, the driver of the truck, in your thoughts and prayers as he undergoes surgery tomorrow. There is no rhyme or reason as to why one life was spared for two others. I am very sure the Taylor family has Alexian’s family in their prayers tonight for their loss could have been with the Taylor family. May God be with everyone affected by this tragedy.

I know its hard to understand why God seems to take the good ones first. The ones who are loved the most. I think its because not only do we love them the most but so does He. They are to good for this crazy world. He loves them so much He wants them with Him. I will never forget Halloween 05. Alexian,Desi and I layed down on Frog Level and 903 and watched the most beautiful meteor shower. Memories last forever Ali!!!!!

TO THE FAMILY YOU HAVE OUR PRAYERS AND HEART FELT SYMPATHY ALEXIAN

Posted by: Angel Location: Ayden on Oct 8, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Alexian was my best frind since high school. It may have been three vehicle crash but there where 4 people Alexian was 7 moths pregnant. The last time i talked to her on sunday and as soon as i answered the phone she said "tell me u love me" and of course i did she had a strange dream about me and her boyfriend but the point is that most people dont get the chance to tell someone they love them before they die. I am so glad she gave me the chance to say it. I love her we were like sisters and the words dont even exist to describe my sorrow right now but she is in a better place looking down on all of us.*I love you my lil' LuLu LaLa ChuChu*

My daughter and Alexian were best of friends..she was like a sister to her. This tragedy could have so easily been our family this last weekend as my daughter was also in a serious accident and if it wasn't for the seat belt, we would be sharing in this family's grief. Alexian was a wonderful young lady and will be greatly missed. The family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Ali & I shared soo many good times! I'm gonna miss her like crazy! My heart goes out to her family!

My heart goes out to the family. I had a chance to met Alexian through her sister. Being that I was five years older than her, I never had a chance to hang out with her. But,what I remember of her was her smile and that pleasant spirit she had. I had seen her last week, and she said "Hey, girl how are you doing." She's going to be missed dearly. To Liddy-hold your head up, and remember those good days you and her shared.

NOT ALL ACCIDENTS CAN BE PREVENTED. Ignorance, isn't it bliss?

Posted by: Caroline Location: Greenville on Oct 8, 2008 at 02:58 PM
Yes you did spell her name wrong, it is Melhado. But thank you for covering it because you are the only ones who have- it is not even in the Daily Reflector, as far as I can tell. She went to Ayden-Grifton and she was a great girl. My sister and I were friends with her, and our hearts are with her older sister and her family. We will pray for her and her family.

Rest in Peace Alexian and your unborn son

Posted by: Citizen Location: Ayden on Oct 8, 2008 at 02:14 PM
By the way WITN, you might want to check the spelling of Alexian's last name; I'm almost 100% positive that she's a girl I went to school with, and I think her last name is Melhado. I could be wrong though; it's been a few years.

Posted by: Citizen Location: Ayden on Oct 8, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Sadly, it's actually not that hard to get distracted enough that you cross the center line. I've seen people glance away from the road for only maybe a few moments, and that's enough time to at least slightly cross the line. Sad, but true. My heart goes out to the people that are effected by these accidents.

R.I.P. Alexian... We ALL love you and will miss you. May God be with your family during this difficult time.

Posted by: WOLFGANG Location: CHOCOWINITY on Oct 8, 2008 at 12:41 PM
I do not get it in the past few week WINT has reported on a few accidents 3/4 0f these accidents are caused by drivers crossing the centerline. The result is dead people even very little kids have died. These accidents a totally preventable. Stay on your side of the road it is that simple. Alexian may the good Lord be by your side today.

Posted by: Dee on Oct 8, 2008 at 12:13 PM
My heart truly goes out to the Melhando family. Alexian attended Ayden-Grifton High School with my daughters and was a very nice young lady. I pray that the family finds strength during this very difficult time in their life. God is there with you. Blessings to the family.
