Gas prices across Eastern Carolina are starting to retreat back closer to the mid-three dollar range.

Those are prices that were seen at the pump prior to Hurricane Ike.

Refineries in the gulf coast region were put back online last week and today on wall street crude oil futures fell under 90-dollars a barrel. Less than three months ago, crude oil futures traded above 148-dollars a barrel.

Customers at the Sheetz on Firetower road in Greenville say they're glad prices are coming down, but it's not enough.

If the barrel of oil is at 90 bucks shouldn't gas be down a lot more. Greed like VBush said! Wow I think I need to work at Exxon Mobil or maybe Haliburtion. I bet their salaries are very nice.

Society has now been 'inoculated' and become numb and accepting of high gas prices. The oil companies now have no reason to drop their prices. The cash flows in and the GREED grows. We can't live with out it, so there is nothing we will ever be able to do about it. Either pay it or walk. Not to mention that it causes the price of EVERYTHING else to go up as well. If and when they decide to finally come down at the pump, it will be ever so slowly and they will be looking for any excuse they can generate to jack us up once again. Electric companies have to provide an explanation and get permission to raise their rates. I think gas should be considered a utility and actually have to go through the same process.

This manufactured shortage is being used as justification for oil companies to keep prices high though the price per barrell has sharply fallen,
