A driver apparently irate that someone hit his vehicle with an egg is now charged with attempted murder.

It happened late last night on Highway 24 near the Brandywine subdivision in Carteret County.

Deputies say Francisco Hernandez of Somerville, Massachusetts was driving a Ryder rental truck that was hit by an egg. According to authorities, Hernandez stopped his truck and stabbed Joshua Lambert as well as punching him in the face.

The 21-year-old victim was stabbed once in the upper torso and once in the leg.

Deputies say a passenger in the moving truck pulled Hernandez off the victim and forced him back to the truck. The truck was later stopped on Highway 24 by Cape Carteret police.

Hernandez, who was working for a moving company here in North Carolina, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. He's in the Carteret County jail on a $100,000 bond.

I cannot believe some of the responses here. Take a look in the mirror. Everyone, and I mean everyone has done some mischieve in their life. if getting seriously injured for such actions is just punishment, then 50% or more of these idoitc responses wouldn;t be here, becuase you all may be the victim. hernandez needs to go to jail for a long time. it could have been your wife or daughter that simply cut his Ryder truck off and they are now the victim. Think people, think..this type of anger is not acceptable..period.

First of yall besides someone close to home, dont write things if you dont have any idea what you are talking about. Im friends with the Lambert guy and he didnt throw an egg. it was wrong place at wrong time, josh attends nc state and has a better head on his shoulders to throw an egg at a truck. This herandez is a worthless person who needs to sit in jail and rot and then get sent back to his country and rot there. He needs to know you cant stabb someone over an egg. Especially when he didnt know he did it. If the passenger in the truck reads this thank you for stopping him from killing one of my best friends. Dont write about stuff you dont know anything about, to all the people on this comment board

You can't believe everything you read and you can't believe everything you see on TV, were you in the victims shoes? And do you know for sure that he was even the one throwing the eggs? Perhaps he just showed up at the wrong place at the wrong time. I have faith that it will work out the way it is suppose to, you should too.

Anyone know if Hernandez is legal, or a citizen ? If he is illegal, then had followed the law this would not have ocurred.

since when does crime pay isn't there a law that says criminals cannot benefit from a crime

whats wrong with you people? Yes he was wrong for egging a truck, but does that mistake in any way compare to stabbing someone? Absolutely not, very few things in this world justify a stabbing and your truck getting hit with an egg certainly is not one of them. So yea you shouldnt throw eggs but damn what is the world coming to when the punishment for it is stabbing. One person should be charged with a harmless misdemeanor and the other with a serious felony.

As always, we react with only part of the story. He's driving and the little punk throws an egg at this truck, and he stabs the punk. How do we know what happened after he got of the truck? How do we know the punk did not try to attack him. It's always easy to judge when we don't know all the facts. And of course, we know what's next. The family of the punk will sue the moving company the stabber was working for. While stabbing was an extreme action, he was perfectly innocent, apparently, until the punk threw the egg. Egg thrower started the whole thing.

First of all this 21 year old was out acting like a teenager. Second of all, people need to realize that if they intentionally antagonize people they just may get back more than they bargained for. Who knows what else was going on in this guy's life when the punk through the egg at him. Should he have stabbed him over an egg? Probably not, but people should realize that there are consequences for their actions and they may not be what some people would consider a proportional response. There are many people out there having a hard time these days through no fault of their own and not very happy or forgiving. If you mess with the bull, don't be surprised, offended, or upset when you get the horns. When this Lambert guy gets out of the hospital, I'll bet he won't be throwing any more eggs. Chris in Greeneville...Eggs damage paint. You may have never been chastised or caught during your egging escapades, but it was NEVER acceptable. I surely hope your parents didn't endorse this behavior.

Behold, the power of the egg!

Destroy peoples property????? People have been egging homes and cars for YEARS! we did it as kids when it was perfectly acceptable! THEY WASH OFF! I have yet to see any PERMENANT damage from an egg! It is just the day and time where people think more about their precious cars than a fellow human being! Look at all the people that walk right past people that need help (man hit with car, etc) without helping! Those people are pathetic!

OK, The guy did not need to be stabbed, however, he did deserve a punch in the face. Hernandez has some anger issues and he needs to get them in check before he kills someone.

I'm all fine with the don't destroy other peoples property thing.. Really I am, but stabbing somebody over egging their car is just a little harsh. I LOVE my car, but it ain't worth prison time! Good point about it being a rental too! Wow! He probably would have shot the guy had it been his vehicle!

Posted by: concerned Location: goldsboro on Oct 6, 2008 at 05:41 PM
The driver would have been better off getting out of his truck, kick butt, and on his merry way.No weapons should have been involved. But with the young ones today it is either a knife or gun.May God help this generation!!!!

Trust me... if someone egged my car... oh dear goodness... it would not be a good scene. Just as if I see someone give me a door ding.... they will NEVER hear the end of it... people need to wake up and realize - that you do NOT destroy other peoples property!!!!!!!!

If this moron gets this violent over a Rental truck, what would have happened if he had been driving a personally owned sports car or something similar? I agree the guy shouldnt have thrown the egg, but this lunatic definitely overreacted.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 02:43 PM
he was punished the guy almost killed him.what he done was not right however stabbed twice is much enough since the other gut took police work and handle it himself

Posted by: Geez Location: NC on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:37 PM
Idiots abound! Maybe the guy should not have been stabbed, but getting the crap beat out of him for throwing eggs (childish) would not have hurt a bit!

Posted by: WOLFGANG Location: CHOCOWINITY on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:32 PM
If Joshua had not thrown the egg this crime he caused would never have happened. Goes to show sometimes you do not know who you are messing with. Joshau thought he was the predator well he ended up the prey. I bet when that Ryder stopped ole Joshua almost ---- it his pants. Have a great day you all.

Posted by: Ted Location: Greenville on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:21 PM
This should be a good lesson to all the other egg chuckers out there. "The next egg you throw, could be your last"

Posted by: Michelle Location: NC on Oct 6, 2008 at 12:35 PM
The guy who threw the egg should also be charged. He did not deserve what happened to him, but it should not go un punished that he threw something at a moving vehicle. He is 21 and totally accountable for his actions.
