Fisherman, their families, and many others came together this morning for the Annual blessing of the fleet at the Seafood Festival.
The blessing is meant to commemorate the men and women who risk their lives to make a living from the sea.
Without the fleet of commercial fishing vessels from Carteret County the availability of fresh seafood in the state and nation would be greatly impacted.
During the blessing each boat in the fleet tosses a wreath in honor of someone they've lost.
The festival's goal is to recognize the many who have given their lives through their jobs and to thank those who do it today.

no offense, but I grew up in wanchese and without the fleet in our harbor not only would the availability of local seafood, but also almost anywhere on the east coast would be affected, I think it would be a good idea for yall to put something bout us up here. your notice of us would be greatly appreciated.
