The timing of Tropical Storm Alberto is a major problem for some Eastern Carolina farmers. For example, wheat growers have one shot to harvest their winter crop and right now is the time.
Heavy rains on already wet fields could make that difficult. Billy Tankard has more than 500 acres of wheat on his farm in Beaufort County and says it's practically ruined this year because of the wet conditions.
Wheat isn't the only crop taking a hit for Tankard. He's feeling the pinch with his main cash crops like tobacco and corn as well due to the soaked fields.
