Election officials in Washington County were busy Monday recounting roughly 2,600 votes cast in the second Democratic primary election for sheriff.
After a runoff election May 30, James Ross came away with a 21-vote lead over Greg Hassell. That slim lead allowed Hassell to file for a recount.
After the recount, Ross's votes totaled a little over 1,300, while Hassell had just under 1,300.
Ross will face Republican candidate Jonathan Sawyer in November's general election.
