Polls Show Biden Won Debate Save Email Print

Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin on Friday played up her debate performance as polls showed voters judging her Democratic rival, Joe Biden, to be the winner of the only vice presidential face-off of the campaign.

"It was a lot of fun. It was a great opportunity to get to speak directly to Americans," Palin said in an interview with Fox News. McCain told supporters at a town-hall meeting in Pueblo, Colo.: "You know, I almost felt a little sorry last night for my old friend Joe Biden. She did a magnificent job." The GOP's presidential nominee drew cheers when he declared, "Viva la Barracuda!"

Two quick polls indicated that Biden fared better in the debate. A CBS News/Knowledge Networks Poll found that 46 percent of uncommitted voters who watched the debate thought Biden won, with 21 percent siding with Palin. A CNN poll found respondents judging Biden the winner by a margin of 51 percent to 36 percent but calling Palin more likable by 54 percent to Biden's 36 percent.

In the 90-minute forum broadcast Thursday night from Washington University in St. Louis, Palin was under intense pressure to show basic competence on issues facing the next president after a series of embarrassing television interviews called into question her readiness for high office. For the most part she appeared confident and folksy, but she also sidestepped certain questions, pivoting at times to talking points and generalities.

In the debate, Palin tried to portray Biden and Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama as obsessed with the failures of President Bush even as she acknowledged his administration was responsible for "huge blunders" in the war and elsewhere.

Biden largely avoided direct challenges to Palin and instead worked to undermine McCain, who has sought throughout the campaign to distance himself from an unpopular president. The Delaware senator repeatedly noted that McCain had sided with Bush on crucial issues, from launching the war in Iraq to tax policies that widened the income disparity between rich and poor.

"He's been a maverick on some issues, but he has been no maverick on the things that matter to people's lives," Biden said.

On other topics:

_Palin criticized the Democratic ticket for opposing offshore oil drilling. Biden chided McCain for voting against proposals to expand the development of alternative energy sources.

_Palin restated her controversial view that climate change is largely due to cyclical changes in the earth's atmosphere and not primarily caused by human behavior. Biden disagreed, saying climate change was caused by man.

_Biden reaffirmed his position that it was "patriotic" for people who earn more than $250,000 to pay additional taxes. Obama's tax plan would cut taxes for about 90 percent of Americans, Biden said. Palin called his position a "redistribution of wealth principle," but Biden shot back that fairness was the issue.

_Both said they supported partnership rights for gays and lesbians but opposed same-sex marriage.

_Palin argued that the Democrats' plan for the war in Iraq "is a white flag of surrender." Biden defended Obama's vote in May 2007 not to fund military operations there unless a timeline was set for withdrawal, even though he sharply criticized the Illinois senator's vote at the time.

To Anonymous, if ex-cons pay FED.taxes then they deserve the right to vote. If you take their right to vote then take their right to pay taxes also.

To: Devil Dog, you are some what correct. There are 3 main races which are taught unless you are going into the study of Anthropology. Those races are Caucasoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid. If you go into Anthropology.....Capoid or Khoisan Subspecies of Southern Africa, Congoid Subspecies of sub-Saharan Africa, Caucasoid or Europid Subspecies, Dinaric race, Alpine race, Ladogan race, Nordish or Northern European race, Armenid race, Turanid race, Australoid Subspecies and Mogoloid Subspecies. That's 5. If I could've listed all the subspecies within each classification, you'd see everyone in the entire world. And this was off the top of my head. Please excuse the typos, it's been a long time.

Obama isn't even in office yet and people are complaining what it will cost them. So Obama wants to send $825 billion to Africa...hmm. I wonder under Bush, how much is this war costing tax payers.....lets just see shall we? At this moment it is....$560,200,795,463.000 and growing every second. Here is the link so you can check how much it is when you look....http://nationalpriorities.org/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=182......it's a whole lot more than $845 billion. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:25 PM
I think Bidden could have farted on the mic and the Dems would be cheering for him.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 6, 2008 at 01:22 PM
Obama already wants to give ex-cons voting rights now. Create a socialsist country..tax us even more..sex ed for kids in kindergarden hmm what other brilliant changes does he have on tap that he's not telling us?

Posted by: working girl on Oct 6, 2008 at 11:29 AM
To 35 black women. What kind of change does Obama have in mind. The only thing I know he wants is to tax the rich and give free health care and give Africa 845 billion dollars. I think Obama supporters should start asking what kind of change he plans for America. Change doesn't always mean GOOD. If I lose my house and job it's change but not the kind of change that will help me.

Great response there scooter....Kitty. You obiviously find it easy to blast Fox news who stepped up to tell "facts" that other media has kept silent. They, the dems don't want us to know Obama is a radical terriorist. Spend time learning about the man you will vote for. Realize the implications of voting for him. Voting party lines? That is what the sheep do, believe anything and everything the party says. This season its a terrorist you will be voting on.

To all people talking about RACE, I need to know from the experts. There are 3 RACES of people, Caucasian,Black and Asian. Social scientists say a persons RACE is to be "documented" by the RACE of the mother. If so,then OBAMA is Caucasian and Tiger Woods is Asian. People from INDIA are Caucasian. I'm waiting for a comprehensive analytical reply.

People forget it was Clinton that signed the Fair Trade Agreement that sent jobs overseas. Wasn't he a Democrat???That was the beginning of the problem. Bush just gets blamed for it! Wake up people.

To Paul, Then why didn't the republicans fix FM & FM the six years between 2000 and 2006 before the Democrats took control of things? Why didn't daddy Bush fix it before Bill Clinton got in the Whitehouse? You are a moron if you think for one minute the republicans could have fixed it.

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Oct 5, 2008 at 06:19 PM
Take for Palin/McCalin all you like..notice how I typed that. Because republicans act like she runs the ticket even with the IQ of 42. You all know what is happening....Obama is winning..that's a fact so sit back, relax and watch the show. You can't compare Palin to Obama..he the originally, she can't be just like him, can't make that happen. You can't stop him if you wanted. The democratic party is scrubbing the republican party on the ground. If McCain says he can beat Obama obviously he is lying. New voters have register in masses to make sure this happens. I've read all the BS about uneducated voters..voting for the first time for Obama...so what? It's still their right isn't it? Obama is the biracial energizer bunny....this won't be stopped. Voting is just a technicality. We have this in the bag....November will just be the "I told you so" month.

News flash: Refusing to vote for Obama because he is black is just as wrong and racist as voting for him just because he is black.

Shortage may not matter if we have a national healthcare system. Ask all the canadian nurses I worked with here in the US because they couldn't find jobs in their own country. They said it was because of their National Healthcare Plan. People had to wait years for surgeries if they survived the wait that is. The other thing about going to a plan like that is that we may have less competent practioners because they will have to lower the standards at med schools. The smart ones will go on to find better paying careers elsewhere and not in medicine. Face it, with such a plan, careers in Medicine will not pay well. Ultimately, we will get what we pay for eventually. Back pockets may be fuller but they will not do us any good while we lay in the coffin.

I find it astonishing that some of you expect any of US to believe FOX NEWS broadcast the truth about this election or any election in the past. "FOX NEWS SUCKS"

Be very weary of the so called polls taken by the press. They are trying to get you to not vote assuming your choice has already lost. AS far as the debate, seems likes Biden runing against Bush. didn't realize he was on the ticket. Not even close who won the debate. Depends which way you are looking, past or future.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Oct 5, 2008 at 05:10 AM
To VOTER..Our healthcare system will totally collapse by 2025, if something isn't done. You can promise everyone healthcare, but if you don't have enough physcians, emt's,nurses, etc.it won't matter. This country is at least 60,000 primary care doctors short. 1/3 of the ones we have are over 55. No doctors equals no healthcare. PROMISES don't solve the problem, sound solutions do. Your body is like a car, you have to keep it tuned up(ie.exercise and diet). By the looks of our society, many bodies are ready for the junk heap.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Oct 5, 2008 at 04:40 AM
To hunh...McCain had skin cancer(melanoma) and his last check up was excellent. BIDEN has had 2 surgeries for a brain anuerysm. If you watch CNN,ABC,NBC,PBS or CBS you only get the LIBERAL, pro Obama side of politics. Try other sources for accurate information and at least two sides of the story is presented.

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Oct 5, 2008 at 04:17 AM
To Toni..Not knowing your financial situation or your skill sets, it appears your bills have you near a panic. Pay bills on a priority of food, electric, water, mortgage/rent and credit cards last. Call social services as they might help. Set a goal, as to what you want to do, and go for the goal. There a books in the library, and sites on line that can assist. Look at your car, and if you can, get one cheaper. Cars are a bad investment and only depreciate rapidly. Since you have 2 children, I assume your husband works? If a single parent, ask the father of the children for child support or an increase of child support.

I would like to hear about people like me(not middle class). That work hard every day for companies that could care less about wages and gas prices, electric bills. For parents who have to work for everything that we need. Because 401k plans are crashing and putting food on the table is now a blessing and a prayer. So can a politican take in account for the rest of america who need to hear some type of relief. I want to stop chosing whether or not to pay one bill this week just so my daughter and son can have what they need for school and what i need to put in household for every day life..... Make sense PLEASE.......

To Mary, You know we could ask the question why Palin isn't the top person on their ticket if she did all she said she did. We don't need to ask, we already know the answer. WE are all well aware that she is a complete "AIRHEAD AND NOT EVEN GOOD AT THAT"

Does John McCain have health issues that no one knows about? Why are people assuming that he will "kick the bucket" while in office? People are living much longer these days--thanks to medical research. I do have a favored candidate, but I wish no harm on either one. You people sound like you are wishing stuff on McCain.

A review of the debate indicates he was wrong on 14 comments to his facts. A typical SENATOR, with a law degree, who moves like a butterfly and stings like a bee. Alot of style and not much substance. He should have mentioned that his son is Delaware's State Attorney General and is being "groomed" to take his SENATORIAL seat. He should have mentioned that his proposal to split IRAQ in three sections was rejected by everyone.Just another empty suit relishing the spotlight.

What a rat Biden was last night! did U see him laughing at Gov. And Levon, I hope you enjoy muslin do-rags, cause that's what U'll be wearing if Obamah gets into office. WHERE do U think he got all his money??? And for his healthcare package? Nationwide gov. ran healthcare? just go to Canada and ask those people how they enjoy waiting 2-3 yrs for surgery and if you have been diagnosed with what they deem a terminal illness getting NO treatement because it's figured a WASTE of government money! Yeah we really need that! I do know what I'm talking about becasue I have colleagues that live there and go thru that! NOBAMAH!!!!!! I get so freaking tired of seeing comments stating, "look who's in control of Congress now." Let's not forget, that the Democrats were made the majority not too long ago. Also, the Democrats do not have a large enough margin to control legislation fully when some of the Dems vote in line with the Republicans. I'm glad you stated, "forget Republican/Democrat", Oilman. Last night was a big, big win for Sarah Palin. She showed originality, charisma and sass - a style that is refreshing and different in our politics. She didn't just win the vice-presidential debate, she showed that she belongs with Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton as among the best communicators of our modern political times.

I'll betcha' my opponents are a-wishing that you had a Maverick representin' every Joe Six-pack, hockey mom - bless their hearts - ya' know? Darn right, a maverick does a heckuva job, not just kinda good, but honest-to-goodness heckuva job! As one of my heroes, Donny Rumsfield, once told me, "Golly gee willickers, that's a peach of a pickle!". So yes, I know a little somethin' about oil up here in the only Arctic state. See I fought'um all Gwen while eating moose burgers. Because McCain signed a bill 2 years ago for nukular stuff..darn right he did. ~wink~

I just read a transcript of an interview Sarah Palin did today. When asked about her debate prep, she said it was about a candidate's ability to memorize and to be fed a tremendous amount of information, and that some of it's trivial when you consider what a vice president's job actually is!? So she apparently thinks that she doesn't need to retain or understand anything she memorized for the debate, and the mess this country is in today is trivial. Wake up people. This woman could be your next President!

Did Biden win the debate? Well folks you betcha ~wink~ Unlike those mavericks...wait just a thought: "a team of mavericks" …… literally impossible since a maverick is a lone dissenter or individualist and cannot side with another. hmmm……everybody loves Sarah Palin's "folksy" talk…..apparently that's all she can do. Is that the way she is going to talk to foreign leaders and diplomats? Maybe she'll just send them a "shout-out" Please! she is a disgrace to professional women everywhere! I am a PROUD WASP (Women Against Sarah Palin). Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Palin because she is a woman, I dislike her because she is a moron!

Were these polls taken among folks before or after Biden's "misrepresentations or misquotes" (referred to as lies by liberals when a conservative commits them) were revealed? As it stands now, there are at least 12 of these "mispresentations". I just wish someone would ask one question of the liberals, dems, Hollywood Hacks and biased media. If O wins this election, who will they blame for everything that goes wrong in this country after January? I think any honest person realizes they will continue to blame George Bush for it all. They will never accept responsibility for any failures. Responsibility is a foreign word for this crowd. Blame, blame, blame. I'm so sick of it, I could throw up. Remember you heard it here...If O wins...wait to see how long it will take before he blames George Bush for his failures. And there will be many. Wake up America!!!!!!!

How about the busing in of people to register and vote in Ohio? Getting people from the homeless shelter, people from other States, and telling all others how to vote will ruin our democracy. I saw live interviews with people openly admitting to this! You won't see this on the LIBERAL news media. The outrage is coming, so hold on to your seats. A black, former Secretary of State of Ohio, named Blackwell warned us last week. It is now confirmed.

Anyone saying that the Republicans put our nation in the position it is today doesn't know who is in power in Congress and the Senate. It is the Democrats. So any blame should go to those individuals sitting in Washington right now. Personally, forget Republican/Democrat. I'll be voting every incumbent out this term and give the next bunch two years to do something for the people. If they don't produce, pack them up and continue until we get someone that'll do the job they were elected to do. That's the power we have as voting Americans but unfortunately too many get stuck to a ticket and I'd say a majority of our politicians are milking us for all they can and there is no better proof than the passing of a 700B dollar bill that each and every single taxpayer is going to pay. At least oil companies give you something for you money.

People you need to get over the BLACK\WHITE issue. Are you so unwilling to say that a black man is fairly wining this race that YOU make your self look like fools by trying to put an airhead in the Whitehouse. I would not vote because of race but I think it is long past due for the black man to be in the Whitehouse. OH one more thing I am 100% WHITE

If you believe in SOCIALISM,and activist judges destroying our CONSTITUTION, vote for the LIBERALS. I see a return of the 60's. That should wake-up a few people. This flawed financial bailout Bill is just a temporary fix. I was hoping the whole thing would have collapsed, so I could see the "chickens running around with their heads chopped off". Those who planned, and took care of their personal finances, will now have to support those who are irresponsible both in their social and financial lives.

100% McCain/Palin vote here that's for sure!!!

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 3, 2008 at 01:38 PM
Leroy; While I will agree that there are SOME morons that will vote/not vote for a candidate based on race, but I don't think they make up the majority of the life long voters. NOTICE I SAID 'LIFE LONG VOTERS'. With that said there is a component of NEW VOTERS that have never voted in their uneducated lives and are ONLY voting because of race. When I say NEW VOTERS, I am talking about the ones that have had many opportunities to vote and never have. I am not speaking of the young crowd that are just able to make their first vote. The young crowd will vote largely out of ignorance as evidenced by talking to any of them,....they may tell you who they are voting for, but almost none of them can give you a valid reason as to why. They really don't know, they are just 'jumping on the train'.

Leroy is right - but only in the 'Joe six pack' parts of the country. There are actually places in our great nation that think beyond race.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 3, 2008 at 12:06 PM
I totally agree we have to vote on the issues not race. I'm white and I'm voting for Obama because I think he's the one for the job. Trust me, I read everything I can, I listen to everything they say, and I've made my choice. Obama

Leroy, thanks for "keeping it real."

Posted by: Leroy Location: New Bern NC on Oct 3, 2008 at 11:34 AM
Putting all prejudice aside. Lets talk fact. In my opion some people will vote on the issues. In reality most people will vote on racial lines. Do we want a Black man or a White man in office? Will Blacks vote for Obama because he is Black? - Yes some will. Will Whites vote for McCain because he is White? - Yes some will. Do not kid yourself. I suggest we vote on the issues, but thats not the way it will happen. Sorry to tell the truth, but I bet WITN will not print what I just said anyway. The Media does not like to print the truth. If you think people will vote on issues your dreaming.

I am a "joe six pack" "soccer dad" and that air head (Tina Fey look-a-like) does not have the intelligence to be one heart beat away from the presidency. And now she is coming to Greenville...life will be disrupted all for an empty head. Once again, would rather hear Tina Fey...at least she reads....and probably knows more about foreign policy...BTW Dwayne..the robotic surgery thing,,,wasn't first done here, try New York, and it is a system( medical for a machine)and people come here just like Cleveland Clinic, Pittsburgh, LA, etc and are taught..I digress.....back to Sara...she has shown she does NOT have an original thought,,she is the lady who would be the one to complain about the way you do your yard, her kids unruley and her spouse,,a jerk,,,lousy neighbors..."reformist apocolyptic thought"....

Clearly Palin did better than the MSM expected her to do. Now that America sees and hears her without the biased filter of those who are trying to destroy her, we like what we see. I'll admit that Joe Biden clearly has more experience than Sarah Palin, but she has been on the national level for 5 weeks. He has been a US Senator for 30 years and has had two unsuccessful runs for President. No one expected them to be equally prepared, yet they pretty much were. Besides, what good is 30 years experience if you're wrong all the time? I don't know who will win this thing, but for sure if McCain loses, he can't blame Sarah Palin. She has done her job. Now he needs to do his. He has to get tough. The bailout bill started out as Armageddon Avoidance and has turned into pure pork. He spoke for 30 min in the debate about how he hates pork. He said he would name them, shame them and make them famous so he needs to follow through -except he voted for it. Newsflash McC the Dems don't love you back.

Posted by: Helen Location: Greenville on Oct 3, 2008 at 10:48 AM
I wish you people that think McCain is going to do anything different than good old George has done for the last 8 years would have at least a small moment of clarity. In case nobody has noticed, THE ECONOMY SUCKS!!! What is the unemployment rate? What is going on with gas prices? Have you tried to get a loan to buy a house or attempted to sell your home? It is evident that the Republicans are not able to make these issues better, it has been 8 years and they have not showed us they will yet.

It seems to be that the REAL issue is do you want the government to run your lives, interfer in your business, and baby you like a parent, or are the people going to do as Governor Palin said and be responsible for our own finances and live within our means. I personally don't need any more government.

How interesting that posters can call SENATOR Obama by his middle name, or by Bin Laden's first name, or Nobama...but someone calls the sweet Governor of Alaska a soccer mom (which she says she is) and folks says I'm not respectful. Get a life! I don't see you blasting all the people who don't respect North Carolina's governor....maybe because he's a DEMOCRAT? Hmmm???

Once again the whiny dumbocrats are making their low intelligence quota available for public scrutiny. Why do you socialist whiners think that if anyone can answer questions intelligently besides your lifetime politicians that the person had to be given a leg up? Now I will give an honest assessment of the debate. I thought that BOTH candidates were well prepared and gave an excellent account of themselves. They gave intelligent and well thought out answers to the questions. As a results, people have two different "changes" that they can choose from come November. Quit crying Obamaites, and do not be jealous because an intelligent woman handled an extremely difficult task with aplomb and intelligent. I even came away from the debate with a new respect for Senator Biden even though I disagree with his socialist leanings. So you whiners can vote your way and we of the other ilk will vote our beliefs.

What I was waiting for was how McCain/Palin differs from Bush Administration and Sarah Palin didn't distinguish that at all. I need to know the difference between McCain/Palin & Bush/Cheney. Since Palin didn't answer, maybe 1 of their supporters on here could.

I am glad the republicans went with a last minute change and had Tina Fey step in. I give it to her though at least she didnt include soccer mom or hockey mom in all her answers. I can listen to her but i just cant hear her. still voting barak.

"T"; The reason they continuously speak about their past records is because it should back up what they say they are going to do in the future. Example, Obama is against the war in Iraq....He voted not to support the troop budget, against the surge...If he suddenly started saying he was an Iraq war supporter and you were an Obama supporter, wouldn't that give you pause based on his record versus what he is saying? I hope you can understand this explanation...that is why they talk about their past records. If their past records differ wildly with what they are saying they will need to have a detailed explanation as to why they have changed their position.

To Aaron: Us Joe Six-packs are proud that Eastern NC and NC are pioneers in aviation, the birth place of forestry and pioneers in medicine. After all, Doctors from around the world come to ECU to learn Robotic surgery techniques which were done first in "Greenville NC". All of the listed (and there are more) are continuing important contributions to our nation. We are quite proud of NC and Eastern NC no matter what label you choose to place on us. Also, there are roads leading out of the state if you are discontent. McCain/Palin 08

You people take the cake--Palin managed to keep from screwing up and Biden did his best not to be a jerk. Neither candidate won. They just didn't do anything stupid. That wasn't a debate...it was a pillow fight. And it was boring...neither one said anything new. Palin did use the word "maverick" 5-6 times--wonder if she can spell that? Why is it every time she speaks, I keep hearing the movie "Fargo" in my head? "You betcha."

Posted by: Ray from VA Location: In change land on Oct 3, 2008 at 09:04 AM
The only reason she made a half way good impression is I strongly believe she knew all of those questions would be given to her. I thought Biden was excellent. Especially all this talk about McCain being a Maverick. He actually seemed mad because McCain has done nothing for middle class American families. What makes this ole fart a Mavarick?? The fact that he was caught as a prisoner of war? That who you rep. want as your president? Palin did not give a plan at all. She actually stayed away from talking about the real issues and reverted everything back to her beloved John McSain!

Palin confronted the issues straight on with Biden dodging the ball. She was very agressive and right on target with her answers. Gwen was fair in her questions and left no doubt she could be objective. Fox news poll had her 87% Palin with 11% Biden. McCain will be up in the polls over the next few days. These are the facts. Even the major networks have her as winning the debate. For those looking for fault you probably would find what you were looking for. Objectively, she was the dominant presenter.

I see at this point. The new WINT poll Governor Palin is far ahead as to who won the debate To "W" I also see that some Democrats have no respect when it comes to titles Senator Obama calling Senator McCain John. "W" calling Governor Palin soccer mom. When I was Captian in the US ARMY. I got saluted all the time. They did not salute me the man they saluted the Rank I held. It is Mr. Pesident, Senator, Congressman, Governor. Not SOCCER MOM. People lets get some respect for the office these people hold.

Total respect for Sen. Biden. He appears more qualified to be President than Sen. Obama who will look like a kindergartner in college if elected. No doubt it will be McCain/Palin 2008. Good job to both VP candidates. Now back to the next Presidential debate where we can hear Sen. Obama answer..... ah,ah,ah,ah.

Posted by: T on Oct 3, 2008 at 07:57 AM
I really wish the past records of both parties would stop being what everyone focuses on. I am ready to hear what is going to be done to change anything!!! Saying "I am going to bring change to Washington" doesn't say anything on how, or what is going to be specifically. Why? because they don't know what they are going to be able to do because of congress. It doesn't matter who is president, neither can do a thing for this country until we get a congress that will focus on the people that put them up there instead of the money that goes into their pockets. They don't care about the american people, they want to know how they can get this person or that person something extra in the bill that is going to pass through Congress. A few examples, Bush put us at war, Clinton gave us NAFTA, both voted on and passed by congress. War is bad, but it seems to be the only job/company you don't have to worry about heading across the border for cheaper labor. Either way, people complain

I welcome president Obama to the white house. We so badly need his leadership here in america. It's only a matter of time now, we will have a new america, a stronger more positive america. He will stitch the wounds back together that the republicans caused. He will bridge the nations and move this country forward once again. He ans his beautiful family has exemplified what class poise is all about. He has withstood any and all the hateful remarks and mud that has been thrown at him. All hail Barak!! All hail Barak!! Vote like your life depends on it. We absolutely cannot have Mccain/Palin in the white house, it would be a total disaster for this country if Mccain/Palin won. I know Barak will win, no doubt about it. OBAMA/BIDEN08. Yes we can Yes we can Yes we can!! Im so happy the days are counting down to a new stronger more positive america. I've never been so excited in my life.

After the debate, now the fact finders went on TV, and found about 10 answers Biden gave were Fictitious and False. We do not need anymore Democratic BS. We need political truth we need CHANGE we need McCain /Palin. I think she would even make a good President some time in the future. McCain/Palin

Posted by: Sam Location: Farmville on Oct 3, 2008 at 01:48 AM
Palin was contemptuous in this debate. She gave no clear answers, scolded the moderator and Joe Biden. Palin winked, rolled her eyes and was sarcastically cute. Biden remained a professional that truly understands the gravity of the situation. Palin wants more power to be granted to the VP office, sounds like Dick Chaney. This is not change nor the PTA, this is the second in command for the most powerful position in the free world. You can't run the VP office of the USA with talking points, winks and anecdotal humor.

There is no way she could have answered these questions not knowing what they were in advance. Even you right wing Republicans would admit that! How did these words roll off her lips!

Posted by: W on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:43 PM
Palin seemed nervous, rehearsed, and didn't answer many of the questions. Biden at least seemed to speak from the heart and not from memory even though you may not have agreed with everything he said. Sarah needs to go back "up there" (her words tonight, not mine)...she seems to be thawing out a bit down here where it's warm.

Posted by: stilldon'tknow Location: NC on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:37 PM
I thought Palin did a great job considering she was supposed to bomb. All politicians dodge questions and change subjects; she's is a politician like the rest of them. I still remain undecided but I look forward to the next two debates.

Posted by: Aly Location: Kinston on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Wow, I liked Sarah Palin initially. I was a little upset by her performance in the interviews but chalked it up to the liberal media and their biases. I guess I was wrong about that. She really doesn't know that much. I love the soccer moms and average American's but really. Making your own questions, and dancing around topics. I'm not sure I agree with Biden but he at least convinced me he knew what he was talking about. I didn't get that from Palin and I think that McCain made a very poor decision. I don't think I can vote for a ticket where I no longer respect the VP and question the sanity of the main guy.

Posted by: Laura Location: Greenville on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:19 PM
WAY TO GO SARAH! I was more than impressed by not only her intelligence and knowledge but also her strength and poise. She is very impressive and inspiring. Biden met his match today and it showed. It's about time we have real people in the White House. I look forward to seeing her there!

After watching the Vice Presidential debate earlier this evening, it is very clear to me that the Obama/Biden ticket is the best choice for this country. Regardless of what anyone says, in my opinion, Palin was clearly out of her league. She is inexperienced, and most of her responses were evidence of this fact. It was as though all responses/comments made by Mrs. Palin had been previously rehearsed, and that she was trying to say everything she had rehearsed regardless of the relevancy to the questions asked. I sincerely hope that America will wake up and see the major differences in these candidates, so that the best decision for everyone will be made on November 4th. Our country really needs CHANGE.

Posted by: undecided Location: now decided on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:10 PM
Wow. I was skeptical of Palin to begin with because she has a penchant for memorized speeches without a lot of substance. Now I'm 100% in the Obama/Biden camp. Biden is very knowledgeable much more so than Palin on all of the topics, from the economy to healthcare to foreign affairs and energy. Palin kept mentioning Alaska and her energy "knowledge" but failed to clearly state a position on anything but her belief that oil is good. I was truthfully expecting Biden to put his foot in his mouth at some point but he didn't. He was articulate, knowledgeable, personable and actually funny. I'm ready for Change and an improvement over the poor choices of the last four years with McCain and George Bush. Three middle American cheers for Obama/Biden!!!

IF you consider the moral values, McCalin and Palin support Christian moral values....Pro-life, against same sex marriage, etc. I am soooo proud of Palin--Way to go!!!!!
