A very visible battle in the war on drugs Friday... 35 members of the Pitt County Sheriff's Department staged an operation on Highway 264 near Farmville.
Deputies trained to spot telltale signs of drug traffickers were used to identify suspect vehicles. Those vehicles were then pulled over and searched.
While many drivers were in the clear, Chief Lee Moore says operations like this one are critical in keeping the pressure on drug dealers.
"We have to keep it up all the time. If we don't keep the pressure on, the drug traffic will build, and build, and build, and it will be a sad place to live here in Pitt County, " said Moore.
At least one arrest and several citations were issued during the operation.
