Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin spoke at ECU's Minges Coliseum Tuesday evening. Thousands of people gathered to hear her speak.

Palin's was scheduled to take the podium at 7 p.m., but her plane did not land in Greenville until about that time. She started speaking closer to 7:30 p.m.

The Republican vice-presidential candidate talked about ECU’s recent football success and how she and John McCain hoped to succeed in the White House.

"John McCain and I know that the people of Greenville and that the people of the country are ready to shake up Washington," Palin said.

Palin said no matter your party, she and McCain are asking for your vote, to put them in Washington D.C. and put government back on your side.

She briefly mentioned her debate with Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Palin talked about reform of government, the $10 trillion national debt, senior citizens, taxes and the war, saying McCain, unlike his opponent, isn’t afraid to use the word “victory.”

She talked about McCain’s 22 years in uniform. She asked all the military in the audience to raise their hands.

Her recurring them was putting government back on the side of the people. When she talked about Obama, the crowd roared and chanted "Nobama, Nobama."

Palin also talked about drilling for oil now, in America.

After the rally at ECU, Palin stopped to watch the debate at a pizza restaurant in Greenville.

Boli's hosted the Alaskan Governor for a post-rally slice of pizza and a pint of beer. More than 30 locals watched the presidential debate on television with Palin. The VP candidate stayed at Boli's for the entire debate before leaving Greenville.

On Monday McCain and Palin supporters waited in line for hours to get their hands on a pair of tickets to see Sarah Palin Tuesday night.

The Pitt county Republican Campaign headquarters handed out 200 tickets in Greenville. People were allowed to take two tickets to attend Tuesday night's GOP rally held inside Williams Arena at Minges coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University.

The rally starts at 4 pm; Sarah Palin is scheduled to speak around 7pm.

Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, will also be in eastern Carolina Tuesday.

Michelle Obama will host a community event with military families at the Jacksonville Commons recreation center at 1:30.

Stay tuned to WITN and witn.com throughout the day for complete coverage and updates.

Previous Story:

People were told to sign up for the tickets and then they could pick them up Saturday morning.

Many Pitt County Palin fans who didn't sign up earlier were turned away and told to come back for some. Those who *did* get their name down on the list and got their tickets were excited about the rally.

Previous Story:

Four weeks before the presidential election and Sarah Palin will hold a campaign rally at ECU. Click the story to learn where tickets can be obtained.

The McCain-Palin ticket will make its first visit to Eastern Carolina with a campaign stop in Greenville.

Headline Nov 5th, 2008: DEMOCRATS BEWILDERED OVER

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Oct 15, 2008 at 05:02 PM
To Anonymous in Elizabeth City (Oct 14th @ 0916am); Let me set you straight. I am not well off. I have been laid off, and not yet off the 'soup line' as I like to call it. I am a Republican. Do I agree with everything they do blindly just to tow the party line? Absolutely not! Do I always vote for them? Hell yes! Why? Because nothing that the Democrats have to offer can I swallow. Everything I support and believe is only represented on this side. One of the biggest problems in out party is that the Republicans haven't been acting or supporting their own party. They keep trying to find the middle ground and attempting to placate the left. That is why our party is in such disarray. In case you didn't know, McCain isn't really a Republican, he is a moderate sitting right on the fence. But he is what the party gave us, so he is who we will vote for. Real Conservatism works every time it is tried, however it has been awhile since we actually practiced it. Obama will send us off a cliff!

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Oct 14, 2008 at 10:03 AM
First to clarify a position of me as poster. I am a registered democrat of thirty some years, not a middle class salary and never throw out the race card. Most democrats are moderate, not liberal. The problem is the association is now drawn as being all liberal. To explain NC, it is mostly moderate and will vote as it has for the last 3 decades for republican canidate. This time there is even a woman running even better. If Colin or Condi would be on the ticket, even better. We want moderate presidents. Ones that believe in god and country. Obama doesn't demonstate either. In fact he is scary due to his associations. Swing state, not really, that is the media hype and the polls that reflect media research. Last night Fox revealed a different type of poll. The scary poll. Obama had 80% against McCain 14%. Obama holds a hidden agenda that most liberals won't even see as they are blinded by party loyalty instead of personal principles. Well, the rest of us 80% will not vote for the guy.

Umm what year is this...1932??? It is so sad that we're in the year of 2008 and most individuals that have posted their thoughts on this blog are one sided. I would be wrong to say ALL of you who have posted about Kool-Aid drinkers, uneducated masses and the list of negativity goes on and on are WHITE Americans. But that would be wrong. Everyone's still throwing out the race cards. Those that are supporting Obama or McCain is because they believe in what they're saying they can do. I personally feel that a change is needed in Washington. The ones' backing McCain are apparently rich and well off and just die hard, born and bred Republicans. And the ones behind Obama feel that he can deliver the change that most of the needs. What will it take for people to stop being so stereotypical and immature. I pray for all of your souls. I hope your children or grandchildren will have a better code of ethics and morals.

Anonymous Oct 11,2008 @ 8:16 PM; Your post reflects ONE of my major points. The uneducated masses who have no idea what the issues are or who the key players are, and obviously cannot spell are the 'sheep' that are going to the polls to vote in the party that will require nothing of them, keep them ignorant, and deliver very little of their empty promises. Short uneducated bumper sticker comments that reflect nothing except a demonstration of ignorance.

Hey, Obama Snake Oil co.: Somehow, I think that if video/audio of Obama burning an American flag was out there, his kool-aid drinkers would still vote for him. The media has done everything they can to elect this man, and they've done everything possible to make everyone hate Bush, McCain, Palin, and conservatives in general. It seems to me that the mainstream media has the biggest influence over those hopeless dupes who, whether consciously or unconsciously, think to themselves, ''The media would'nt say it if it were'nt true !'' Such people are easily manipulated by feelings, and seldom look past feelings to delve into facts. The scary thing is that even these people that can't think for themselves are given the right to vote, and Obama will have both the media and them to thank if he wins. Just think : If only the intelligent people were allowed to vote, no Democrat would EVER get elected ! Hang tough, buddy!

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil co Location: Washington on Oct 11, 2008 at 05:55 PM
Someone should vote for Obama. What part of uninformed do you not understand? We thought Nixon was corrupt, but you will vote for Obama? Get informed, stop drinking the koolaide, well, have two more glasses, you will feel better. VBush, I think Jim Jones would be proud. Obama suckered in so many with so little information and they fell for it...isn't terd polish great? We don't get it? What part of socialist, communist, terroist do you not get? If you like your job or want your 401K back you better think again. Yall have a nice night, play fair and vote republican. Obama, he just can't tell the truth, he doesn't want anyone to know.....

VBush, Snake Oil, maybe we feel the same, You don't get it no matter what happens. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Obama Snake Oil Co.; LOL!! They will never get it. They remind me of the 'Reverend Jim Jones in Jonestown back in 1978. No matter what happens, they will drink the kool-aide.

Posted by: Little Woman on Oct 11, 2008 at 08:17 AM
To Obama Snake Oil Co, Last words, WE ARE VOTING FOR OBAMA what part of that don't you understand?

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Oct 11, 2008 at 07:46 AM
The real reason I have not focused on this because of the facts behind it and not the hyped version of the story. Sorry, it just doesn't compare to obamas association with Ayers. You mention skeletons in the closet with Obama? You don't even know what there is on Obama as you don't research the facts. VBush, Red State have all exposed many "facts" on your canidate but you would still vote for him. To most of us it sounds like shady people will vote for a shady president. Just because the media puts terd polish on it doesn't make him clean. Yet this is big story, the big ethics violation? You caught the tater, they call her tater salad.

Posted by: Gary Location: Williamston on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:33 PM
So she fired or tried to fire someone while in office..I'd say that pales compared to Barry Sortoro's history of anti-American,anti-white fanatical Muslim background. He is the worst poison this country has ever seen and everyone seems to have had a drink! So long America it was nice knowing you..hello socialism! P.S. seems someone copied my name and location I'm flattered! lol

Palin abused her power as governor of Alaska according to the legislative report just release. What do you think she'll do if she becomes VP...more of the same? YOU BETCHA!

Posted by: lavon Location: kinston on Oct 10, 2008 at 08:49 PM
well well just in. It has been proven that Palin fired a Safety commisioner because he wouldnt fire a state trooper over a divorce. So Obama Snake oil why haven't you been mentioning this all this time? You've been talking about everything else, why dont you bring this up. Yet another black eye for the republican party!! Mccain's grave just got a little deeper for his campaign. Talk about lack of ethics and morals. I told you folks that this woman has a lot of skeletons in her closet.

It sounds like you may be in denial! P.S. I'm sure you and your honest living friends that don't have time to take a minute long poll on the internet have never checked their email at work. Please, that was a little bit much. By the way, you are not the only hard working person earning an honest living.

Isn't amazing how some of you liberals will ignore his associations with terrorists, American hating preachers/priests and crime. This is about 2 fries short of a happy meal. You need to pay attention to the facts and not the party. The solution to the problem is not to vote in a socialist liberal, no, you need someone that surrounds themselves with good people that are problem solvers. Like Guilani who would go after wall street, Romney, who would straigten up the economy and Petreus, who would keep the military strong to finish and then get out. Getting a cowardly liberal with Ayers and Wright, think about it, who would Obama pick. Obviously, he has a difficult time picking friends, what about cabinet. Would this be a bunch of corrupt politicians? Yes. Obama is part of the economy brake down. Sorry, this is a fact. Yet you would vote him in anyway. You just can't trust people and politicians that lie.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 10, 2008 at 04:29 PM
Linda, yes, yes yes. And McCain is sliding away by the minute with his angry anti Obama rallys. They are the most low class people I've ever seen.

Posted by: Jessie Location: Greenville on Oct 10, 2008 at 04:24 PM
Those polls are so inaccurate. The majority of people have not taken those stupid polls because we're too busy working and earning an honest living. I don't know anybody personally that is voting for Obama...thank God!!! McCain Palin 2008:-)

Posted by: Linda Location: Greenville on Oct 10, 2008 at 04:01 PM
I am for Obama/Biden all the way. He is the better choice believe me, look at McCain, my God he won't make one term, and then look what we have a soccer mom to run the country, pleeeeze - get real people Obama-Obama-Obama-Obama

In case anyone wants to know who is ahead in the pre-voting polls you can go check it out on realclearpolitics.com. The awesome thing is with the toss up states voting for who is currently in the lead for their state Obama/Biden have 353 electoral votes and McCain/Palin have 185. I love it! Go Obama/Biden!!

So Bucky, who gets your vote McCain or Palin?

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Greenville on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:36 PM
To V08-You say that it's a black/white issue but Obama is half black and half white, big deal. We don't want to vote for him because he's the most inexperienced person running. Obama has done nothing for his country. McCain has served his counry his whole life. Obama is clueless about running a country. I can't believe the American people could be so gullible!!! You've got to be a fool to vote for him. Go McCain and Palin!!!!

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:35 PM
Jim, I follow your "logic" to a tee. You see some liberals will not recognize the "truth" of what has happened or how the country really works. Obama makes the economy worse than under Jimmy Carter. Yet people like lil woman would not vote for McCain for dog catcher? She must have a secure state job as the rest of us have to work in a very competitive workforce. Our choice is, lets see, we loose our jobs, have a socialist take our money for redistribution, screw up the economy worse than it is, help create a terrorist stronghold or vote for two others that will go after the greed (expose the perpetraitors), decrease taxes, finish and get out of the middle east with dignity, stabilize the workforce and deal with a dangerous world. Hmmmm, what country are you from? Little woman, if you turntable continues to do that, a slight tap to the base will cause the needle to jump back to the rest of the album.

Posted by: Bucky Location: Greenville on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:24 PM
No Obama! Go McCain and Palin! You have my family's vote all the way!

Posted by: V08 Location: somewhere on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:17 PM
Jim, evidently you missed the last eight years because GWBush did the exact same thing when he got in office, sent more jobs overseas, have you heard the latest numbers on unemployment? Obviously not. It's a shame that most of you are not looking past the black/white aspect of this election. It should only be about what will be best for the US. When the Republicans took office 8 years ago, there was a surplus and now the US is borrowing money from China. Please do not think that McCain will be any different from the current administration.

Posted by: Lavon Location: Kinston on Oct 10, 2008 at 02:02 PM
Response to Randy: Ok I just read your post, you said you might have to lay off employees and move your business overseas. Ok my question to you is: Randy have you been asleep for the past eight years, have you even turned your television on in the last couple of weeks? Well let me catch you up since you don't seem up to date on the latest happenings. 10's of thousands of americans have lost their jobs since bush has been in office. Thousands of companies and businesses have close the doors ond laid off employees since bush has been in the white house and finally Randy and you read this very closely. THE STOCK MARKET IS ABOUT TO CRASH!!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS?? Well there you go Randy, welcome to 2008!! And you want to talk about what Obama is going to do to america. Unbelievable!! Unbelievable!!

Posted by: Jim Location: Washington on Oct 10, 2008 at 01:20 PM
Everyone talks about losing jobs to companys going overseas, let Obama get into office and give the company that are currently here a tax hike, then see how many jobs will be lost to companys moving overseas. Obama's plan is the very worst thing that can be done to our economy and job force. Companys will be packing up and leaving the country at a record pace. McCain would like to give the company's a tax break, which will encourage the companys to stay here in the United States, expand and hire more AMERICAN workers. More people with more jobs equals a better economy. WHAT are all of you Obama supports thinking????? It does not take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Go ahead, vote him into office, then come back and ask why you no longer have a job. Just as Randy stated: IT'S COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!!!!!!

Posted by: Little Woman on Oct 10, 2008 at 12:51 PM
TO Paul, I would not vote for McCain for City Dog Warden let alone President of the United States.......Obama\Biden 08

If everyone is truly happy with the way things are now in America, I beg of you, please vote for McCain/Palin. Their party lead us down this path with his support. To continue this downward spiral, vote for the party that "brung us to this dance".

Posted by: Concerned Location: Greenville, NC on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:44 AM
It is too late for God Bless America. We have used him and abused his power. His wrath is upon us. God is no joke. We are all one step from being homeless. Russia and Saudi Arabia will own this country.

Posted by: Randy Location: Greenville on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:39 AM
As I have stated before. To the Obama supporters. I, as a business owner who makes over $250,000. If Obama gets elected and I get a tax hike, this will cause not just myself but plenty of others to down-size the employee base to make up the difference in the tax hike. If you support losing your jobs to Obama's plan then go for it, elect him, but I promise it will cause the lose of many jobs, just so the business can stay open. I would hate to be forced to lay off my employees, but thay is the way it is going to be. I currently employee 75 people, but if there is a tax hike I will seriously think about moving my business overseas to avoid the tax hike. Then 75 people will lose their jobs. McCain is offering a tax cut to my business, that will allow me to expand and hire more employees instead of releasing/laying off employees. I am a Democrat but will not stand for any of Obama's nonsense solutions which will totally ruin an already hurting economy. It's common sense folks!!!!

Posted by: All4John&Sarah Location: NC on Oct 10, 2008 at 11:02 AM

For the americans that are planning to vote for Obama because you think we need "change" yes I agree we do need change the economy is in a crisis as we all know it is affecting everyone, although we need positive change. Change that is not going to just happen over night, we did not get in this shape over night. We need positive change in our country change that obeys gods laws. After all this is gods country and we have to do what is right in gods eyes. Everything that Obama stands for is against the rules of god. If Obama is elected for president all of us can expect the end of time to be nearing soon. If you want proof you can find it in the book of "Revelations" in the bible. Do not vote because of skin color this would be an iresponsible decision. Really sit down and ask yourself what is right and vote "McCain" the right decision.

To Anonymous: If you are not against something you are for it! How can you compare abortion to capital punishment???? That is ludicrous. Your chance to choose was before conception. You talk about your bodies rights, what about the baby's rights? Capital punishment is punishment to hard criminals. Unborn babies are innocent. Who cares if you don't believe life starts at conception. It is what it is. There is no reason to murder an unborn child. And your boy Obama supports late term abortion. He voted no against the bill that banned it, he also voted no against minors needing parental permission to seek an abortion. Before you argue about rape/incest view my previous posts b/c I have been there, done that and got the t-shirt. If you are not anti abortion, that makes you pro abortion. Having an abortion doesn't make you un pregnant, it makes you the mother of a dead baby. You don't have to be a Christian to see that murder is wrong. Go Mccain.

This is a response for Jack Hoff: I don't mind ''Rob'' having his opinions. Disagreement is the heart of good conversation. If we all thought alike, what would we have to discuss? It just seems to me that Rob was the one struck by what you described as ''You can have an opinion as long as it's mine.'' I politely but firmly disagreed with him, and he then decided to take his ball and go home. If he wishes to stop posting, fine. Plenty more folks that think as he does to take his place....and, unlike Rob,quite a few of them are at least able to disagree and still take it like an adult. I once again will quote Sean Hannity :''To make a conservative mad, lie to him. To make a liberal mad, tell him the truth.'' Respectfully, A

We need to clear up something about this whole abortion idea. There is no one in the world that is pro-abortion. I do not think it is that abortion is the right thing to do and I would never choose to have one. However, NO ONE in Washington or anywhere else has the right to tell any woman what she can and can't do with her own body. If you want to argue that the reason abortion is wrong is because we must protect all humans, with that statement you cannot defend capital punishment. Also, not everyone believes that human life begins at conception and you cannot force that idea on anyone. If you use religion as a reason for abortion being bad, well, not everyone is Christian so you cannot argue that either. The adoption process has serious issues and needs to be improved immediately. I believe if there was a better adoption process then there would be less abortions. The truth is this issue is very complicated and nothing is going to be done about it no matter who becomes president.

Obama 08 4 Prez; I haven't seen any reduction in the situations you just addressed because abortions are legal and being conducted wholesale. So if you think that abortion being legal is an answer to all the social issues you just named, you obviously haven't been paying attention. With that said, why would you support infanticide or support anyone who has voted for it? Is killing babies the answer to social problems? I think not. Since you have actually seen it now, and are not completely repulsed and against it, I have to question how you can support anything even close to this.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 02:39 PM
To Nobama 08-You really do need a refresher English course. Why is it you have to bring race into this conversation, it's totally irrelevant! I know plenty of white women who do the same. The point is it is not about the government telling what to do with your body, it's about PROTECTION FOR ALL HUMAN BEINGS!!! Is that too hard for you to understand? You act like abortion is the ONLY option and totally ignore ADOPTION. I have a friend that was adopted. She met her biological mother as a young woman and has geat respect for her. She has no resentment that she was given up for adoption, she respects her mother for at least letting her live her life. My friend is now in medical school and a true asset to society. I'm sorry but I could care less about women who would try to abort their own babies. These women who have had abortions in the past and now have their "right children" disgusts me. Could you look at your children now and decide which one to murder and which one to live?

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Oct 9, 2008 at 01:56 PM
OH yes I saw a partial birth abortion on the net, and it was the most horrific thing I've seen BUT......It wasn't me killing my baby. Women will kept getting abortion if they are legal or not. At Least if they are legal the woman will get proper care and won't die of infections from things like wire coat hangers. This is the part I don't understand about you republicans. Let's pretend a poor 15 year old black female is pregnant and she has the baby...all I would read on this post from the repubs is, black people are lazy, having babies, waiting for their welfare checks and food stamps, get a job, stop having some many babies, I'm tired of taking care of you with my tax money. I mean what do you want? You can't have it both ways. Some people can't afford a child, and that's just the facts. Do you have to pay for these peoples sin? How is what's going on in someone else's body your business? ....If a girl has a baby, how about the male be castrated? Let's control his body too!

To "A": I happen to know the person who went under the name of "Rob" on this and this person is a self-described anarchist. I know his views upset a lot of conservatives or those on religious right, but this person is speaking their mind. What has always ticked "Rob" off is the philosophy of "You can have an opinion,as long as it's my opinion", which is so prevailent on this web site. So, this person loves to simply get conservatives so P.O.ed that they start spouting off wild rants about patriotism and politics. "Rob" has simply sat at the computer and laughed, saying "Fools. All fools." I know for a fact that this person will not comment on any page on this site again, due to fact that "Rob" is tired of, in his own words, "...dealing with idiots."

Posted by: Amy Location: Greenville on Oct 9, 2008 at 01:17 PM
Melissa and Kathy, I'm glad that you are able to share your experience with others so they can recognize that people that choose to have an abortion are normal everyday people. I see below that people are trying to make it out to look like that people who choose abortion are low lifes and they continue to use abortion as a form of birth control. There are many women in this country that have had one abortion and do not continue to do so after that. I'm glad that two of you had the opportunity to make the best choice for your life instead of our government telling what to do with your body based on their religious beliefs.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Well...I guess that's because we didn't mess around and end up pregnant. Maybe you should refrain from sexual activity until you're woman enough to be responsible for your own actions. Don't be thanking God for the right to kill your own baby because He had nothing to do with that decision. I really do not know how you all sleep at night. I guess that's the difference in you and me. Have you ever researched how abortions are performed? We treat criminals and animals more humane than innocent babies.

Posted by: Kathy Location: Washington on Oct 9, 2008 at 12:24 PM
Melissa - I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's your choice. Thank God we live in a country where we have that right (at least for right now.) I made that same CHOICE 21 years ago. I know it was absolutely the right thing to do. I once published an article on abortion being totally against it. It was very assaultive on the women who chose that root. How stupid I was. Given the same circumstances today, I would still choose abortion. I had a wonderful baby 5 years later when I thought it was the right time. I've never regretted it. You conservative folks know nothing of which you speak concerning abortion until you've walked a mile in our shoes.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 9, 2008 at 12:09 PM
Yeah....you keep telling yourself that you made the right choice. The only person you are convincing is yourself. Did you ever think of giving the baby up for adoption? No, because you were being selfish. I am a woman and I am Pro-Life because I believe in the rights and safety of all! I don't just pick and choose who has the right to life. Abortion is murder!!! It's funny how a woman can be irresponsible and immoral and think "oops...i got pregnant, oh well i will just have an abortion." That baby has just as much rights as you and I. They have a right to life! Next time you end up in this situation please look into adoption!

Posted by: Melissa on Oct 9, 2008 at 11:49 AM
If you can't trust a woman with a choice, how can you trust her with a baby. I made a choice almost 20 years ago as a teen to have an abortion. It was the hardest, most depressing and painful decision of my life, up until that point. My baby would have grown up fatherless with an uneducated, immature, angry mother that would probably still be on welfare had I not made that choice or in a foster facility or home. I made the right choice for myself and ultimately for that baby. No amount of Christianity or lack there of could ever convince me otherwise. I continue to be thankful for my right to choose.

I consider myself a Christian and a conservative. I like the idea of taking care of myself and my family with as little input or interference from government as possible, except on matters of National Security. That being said, I truly was struggling with voting for McCain. I probably would've still voted AGAINST the Obama propaganda/fear machine, but was not EXCITED. Life, and the protection of it, is #1 on my "checklist" for giving my support and NOW I can confidently vote McCain/Palin. McCain proved with his choice of Palin that he was brave (once again) and put a "pro-life" lady on his ticket. My heart lit up when I heard her stance! It's not hard people, abortion is MURDER! Supporting the right to abortion is supporting the right to murder and is just as bad as committing murder yourself. I couldn't support a murderer! McCain/Palin.

It is now 2008, and though many ethnic groups may vote based on the color of one's skin, most and I say MOST people who actually care about this country don't care what color the president is. Find me a trustworthy, honest, unchanging, less government believing, life supporting, military backing, red, white, and blue loving African American and I will vote for them- until then keep the dishonest, constantly changing, tied to terrorist, undeciding, abortion backing out of the White House. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check your facts about Obama and think about whether you want someone who lacks moral judgement, can't seem to vote for or against anything, and has ties to people that HATE America telling you what to do. KEEP Obama out of the White House- Put your tax dollars to better use. VOTE: McCain/Palin 2008.

Be very cautious of any politician who uses "wedge issues" to promote their agenda. This is exactly what Palin and McCain are doing today and the Republican base is falling in lock step behind them. Lokk how fast they jumped on the Palin bandwagon - unquestioning. Militarism, ultra-nationalism, scapegoats, half-truths and false statements intended to inflame a poorly informed citizenry during times of ecomomic distress. We have seen this before in Nazi Germany in the run up to WWII. And I'll bet that Karl "Goebbels" Rove has his pudgey little fingers in this.

Liberals on this board seem to have been completely blind sided by the dem party. Jackson, they actually believe the rhetoric on the web sites instead of the true facts. Obama has cited many lies in the last debate yet this means nothing to the liberals. Lies are OK as long as its not their Obama who is accused. McCain is the only honest canidate along with Palin we have. I just don't trust my parties canidate Obama, he has too much history of association with corruption. That does mater. It published everywhere on TV, Fox news, Cnn and the internet. Are you really going to vote for more corruption? Fanny Mae and Freddy isn't enough for you, 800 million isn't enough for you? Is a trillion dollars enough? Vote republican this year and vote out the incumbants as well. Status quo is what we have now, changes mean new leaders. Obama, you just can't trust. However, I'd respectfully point out that if he does win, you can bet the mainstream media sure won't be the ones to ''dog him unmercifully'' ! Lord knows they're doing all they can to help him win. If he does win, I'd say his most vocal opponents will be Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham. I predict that Obama will do all he can to find a way to get those folks off the air. I do fear for our country if he gets elected...but we'll tough it out like we did with 8 years of Clinton. Frankly, I'm still waiting on all those crybaby libs that swore they'd leave the U.S. if Bush got elected to make good on their promise ! Take care,D D .

Okay, here is what Obama's tax cut will do. If he raises taxes on people who make over 250,000 a year, many people will lose their job. For example, I along with many of my friends work at Hatteras Yachts. The people who buy Yachts are the same ones who make over $250,000 a year (most over $5 million). If Obama raises their taxes, they stop buying Yachts (along with expensive cars, fork lifts, nice homes, high end electronics, high end appliances, etc) and I along with many others lose my job, so what good does a tax cut do if I can't even work. As much as I hate to say, rich people buying stuff is what gives us average folks our jobs. It is simple trickle down economics. For this reason along with the fact that I think McCain will do a much better job handling Iran, Russia, Iraq, etc... is why I am voting for McCain.

Posted by: A on Oct 9, 2008 at 07:33 AM
To Rob : I'll gladly take my flag-waving, Palin-loving rhetoric elsewhere if you'll do likewise with your utterly blind liberal views. Admit it or not, my post for you was exactly correct. I reiterate: We [including you] DO OWE EVERYTHING, INCLUDING OUR FREEDOM, to our military. I'm not sure what makes me sicker.. Your views or your ingratitude to our troops.

Lavon, You obviously do not understand the democratic system. The congress control spending and policy which is and has been controlled by a democrat dominated congress. Bush could not do anything without the congress approving it!!!! Why I do think Bush is not the best president this country has ever had...He didn't act alone. The party that supports your beloved Barrack Hussein Obama were the ones that enacted all of the policy and the laws that contributed to the mess the economy. And furthermore, if the problem is strictly a Republican problem why did banks around the world cut interest rates to prevent meltdowns of economies all over the world.

Good question to WITN: Anonymous " I don't understand WITN poll question?" Also, I would like to add that Palin should continue being Governor of Alaska because I'm not impressed with her being Vice President of the U.S. She's not no where near the "CALIBER" of Hillary Clinton!!! Lastly, McCain/Palin have put on a "dirty" campaign here lately throwing ROCKS and hiding there hands at the Obamba and Biden team. It's show me if anybody, they don't have class and respect for others. Get ready America "Obama/Biden" are ready to lead and retore the America dream.. Now, that sounds that COMMUNISM, when you believe in a one party system. I GUARANTEE you, OBAMAS proposed policies will not change this country's direction for the better. If he doesn't sing another tune if elected, he will be dogged unmercifully. You need to research and read, a front page article on Mr. Raines's in the New York Times in 1999. Mr. RAINES, former CEO of Fannie/Mae and now an OBAMA economic ADVISOR,bragged when said he would "push" sub prime morgtages to the poor. He lied to people and walked away with 90 million dollars. I haven't seen him in front of CONGRESS testifying yet. Check out the donations the Democrats got from Fannie/Mae and Freddy/Mac. The truth hurts. McCain/Palin is a ticket worthy of believing in - that good change is possible. Obama has said that we must be willing to sacrifice. Who is he talking about? You. How will you sacrifice? By paying more taxes so he can give them to those who don't have as much as you do. I have no problem with helping those who are disabled and old. But I don't think a person who works hard and makes money or a person who inherited money from a family that worked hard should have to sacrifice it for someone who isn't willing to better themselves. This is a socialist view of life, people. Wake up!

His views on taxes/healthcare/education will not work. He has no experience and his connection to certain individuals is terrifying. I honestly do not feel he has the best interest of the people of this country, black or white at heart. It is sickening people and the media are more interested in making history by electing a black president than voting for what is right for the country. When the economy of this country falls, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and all other securities we enjoy will be gone. God Help Us. We are Going to Need It.

Sir, I feel safe in saying that I speak for a LOT of people when I say that you, me, and every other American owe EVERYTHING we have to ''our precious military'',not the least of which is our FREEDOM. Freedom to vote, freedom to pursue our dreams, freedom of speech, freedom to our own opinions..even when those opinions are, as yours are, blatantly elitist and ungrateful. Thousands upon thousands of American members of ''our precious military'' DIED to give you the things you enjoy, and yet you apparently hold their sacrifices in utter contempt. That attitude itself is BENEATH contempt. So go ahead and renounce your citizenship. It does'nt sound like you deserved it to begin with.

Everyone who "pulls the lever" for Obama will be enabling infants to be partially born with their head passing thru the birth canal which then will be penetrated at the base of the skull by forceps or a scapel and then the skull's contents would be suctioned out. OBAMA WOULD NOT VOTE TO BAN THIS CRUEL AND MURDEROUS ACT TO BABIES! If anybody can vote for this sick individual, lay down at night, look at yourself in the mirror in the morning and see no wrong in it, then you have sunk below basic humanity! If that sounds tough, too bad. There are animals treated better than that! Women, think about the first time you felt your baby move or kick. I was 4 months pregnant which is 16 weeks gestation. They allow this type of abortion to take place much later than that and it varies by state, some as late as the last trimester that would be the last 3 months of the pregnancy. Premature infants can survive as young as 24 weeks or 6 months gestation. Think about people! Life is a Gift!

I,for one,am a conservative white male. In contrast to what some people say, I could'nt care less about the fact that Obama is black. I have no problem with our President being black. In spite of what these brainless atheists would have you think, we're all created by the same God, with no race superior to another. I DO have a problem with liberalism. This sort of thinking is what gave us affirmative action, and a justice system that cares more for criminals than for the victims of the criminals. It gave us the idea that those who work for a living should pay to support those who refuse to work[a.k.a.,welfare]. It gave us a country that would rather disarm law-abiding citizens rather than actual criminals, and also allows hordes of illegal aliens to ignore our immigration laws while many of those same aliens suck our social programs dry. Liberal thinking also requires us to learn a foreign language to make the aliens feel more at home.Elect Obama and we'll get more of the same.

I wish these politicians would stop trying to use religion to get elected. Yes, they should feel free to demonstrate their Christian values, but let's be consistent. Let's not be hypocritical. If we are going to follow God's Word on a few things, why not follow it on all things. However, then there is a problem. There is no universal interpretation of the Scriptures, so things become complicated. All I want is for politicians to be real, considerate, compassionate and loyal. It is hard to find politicians with all of these qualities because it is hard to find people with all of these qualities. However, I look for the candidate who appears closest to the aforementioned description. The childishness must end.

The stock market is reacting negatively, to the strong possibility of a Democratic President, House and Senate. The downward spiral will continue until some greed overtakes fear. That isn't going to happen very soon. This is one big PONZI Scheme.

Obama supporters! Check out who he was supporting for Kenya's prez election. "Odinga" was in correspondence with Obama from his senate office as late as the NH primary. He advised Odinga on how to manage his campaign and if he lost then he should cry voter fraud. Enrage the tribes. Odinga and Obama are from the same tribe and they know each other thru their fathers. Well he lost. Riots broke out among the tribes and ultimately 800 Christian Churches were burned and Obama supported this person. Check it out, breaking news today but there's a clue, you will not see this on CBS,MSNBC or ABC. Obamanation Chapter 4 has some info but there is email evidence proving this.

Thank you Momof3 I see you are facing the same issues the rest of the taxpaying world is facing. Julianne- I appreciate the fact that you are not wealthy and that your parents are hard working. I'm not sure where you are living but in Greenville/Pitt county there are a lot of people sitting on that rears drawing a Government check while the majority of us are working hard paying our way anfd their's! I'm not against helping those who need help but please, why should we help those who want help theirselves. I believe in supporting those who willing to pull their weight and earn their keep. If my hunting dog will not work he is not worth feeding and I stop spending money on it. If an able body person is unwilling to work then they do not need Government support.

It's not that much different than it's ever been, yet we've not supported a democrat since Jimmy Carter in 1976. So, don't bank on it buddy.

What is that, like 433% more for Palin? These numbers were reported in the Kinston Free Press, so I am not just making them up.It appears that McCain/P alin is a little more popular than the bleeding heart liberals want you to believe.

Dem & Rep. are responsible for this mess. But the Dems were the ones pushing Freddie & Fannie to make those riskly loans to people that can't afford them. Look at the Dem strong areas. Mostly poor people wanting more handouts from the gov. If the Dems want to get elected then they have to make them happy. When you have the Bill Clinton (current president @ the time)pushing for these risky loans and Barney Frank's gay lover on the board of Fannie and Freddy and Obama taking the 2nd most money in history (only there for 142 days)then it is easy to see why we are in this mess. The only change we will see with Obama is that our government will get so big and controling that the middle class and wealthy will be taxed to pay for big brother and all of the others who choose to take handouts. This is socialism at its best. We need a smaller Federal government not bigger. Capitialism has made this great country & has only failed due to the unfair practices of left wing liberals. McCain08

If you want a crescent moon instead of Old Glory over the White House vote for Obamma. His entire life has been spent with Muslims and extreme groups. Bamma stated that he wans't close to Ayers but yet he worked closely with him, had one of his first fund raisers at Ayer's home and even made reviews of Ayers's book. He went to a church for 20 years and didn't hear what Wright had to say about America. His criminal Syrian friend Resko helped him raise funds and buy his million dollar home. The people who vote for Bamma want more hand outs from the government. If Canada and France has such a great Social / liberal health care system then go live there. Not everyone is entitled to have a big screen TV, Cadillac or $100 tennis shoes. Only the people that work hard for there money should be able to buy what they want. The major change for this country is that people have lost their pride and dignity and want hand outs from a solialist government.

To Helen, the government has a right to tell us to wear seat belts and to tell us not to use drugs, why aren't you liberals fighting for the right to make those choices? What's the difference? And I can tell you from personal experience as a rape victim that yes I am opposed to abortion even in the circumstances of rape or incest. Two wrongs do not make a right. The child should not be punished because their father is a rapist. The child could be placed up for adoption. Thankfully I did not become pregnant when I was raped at the age of 13 but, I had already made the decison not to have an abortion if I had been. You need to get informed. Most people that get abortions are not incest or rape victims they are irresponsible women who use abortion as a means of birth control. Don't bother quoting to me not to judge, I know the Bible well enough to know that as a Christian when something is wrong I have every right to say it's wrong. It is what it is. Thanks for the support anon! GO Mccain

To all of those who think that the reason some people are not voting for Obama is because he is dangerous (ie. black in your views), check out this link. http://colony14.net/id41.html If even 1/2 of this is true, then those are the reasons that Obama is "dangerous". It has nothing at all to do with skin color.

To Helen, Since when is it a right for a woman to choose to kill a human being? It does not matter what the circumstance abortion is wrong! One of the worst genocides ever is taking place right here in the US. Abortion is murder. It is a human being at the moment of conception, it has the same number of chromosomes as you and me. I don't believe that someone should have to keep the offspring of rape or incest, there are plenty of good parents in this country who would love to have the opportunity to adopt. I am a woman and I am pro-life. It's not about the government telling you what you can do with your body, it's about protecting all citizens. The unborn child has as much rights as the woman carring it. Most of the girls that end up in the abortion clinics are girls that have no idea who the father is, not because they were raped, but because they have no morals. If you're not ready for the risk of being a parent then refrain from sexual activity! Crystal, keep believing sister!

Julianne- just FYI- if you went to school in NC, and had done your research ahead of time you would have found out that there are SO MANY, MANY different grants and low interest loans available here that your education shouldn't have soured you into thinking that more government is better, or maybe that education has you thinking that you need to support all those that decide not to support themselves. Either way you shouldn't be upset that you have to pay for your education, especially if you are now making a living using it, and if you want to support all the lazy people of your party (maybe all are not lazy) then go ahead, but please decide to do it on your own. I don't want the government deciding I should have to. No MORE taxes, No higher taxes, NO more democrats running Congress, and PLEASE do not allow one to live in the White House or Governor's Mansion in NC- GO McCain/Palin-

I do not like that people are calling others "crazy" or "lazy" and saying that posters on here need to get a "dose or two of common sense." We all have knowledge and we all have beliefs. Those two things combined form our opinions along with our personal life experiences. I put myself through college and make under $50,000 a year. I feel VERY fortunate to make what I do. It saddens me to hear someone who is upset that their $250,000 or higher salary may be affected by taxes. There are people like my parents who works their butts off day in, day out and can't even make enough to send their children to college or even buy Christmas gifts for their grandchildren. I am not calling any of you fortunate people greedy; but for a moment, please consider the hard-working American people who are not as fortunate as you are. Not all poor people are lazy. Is that hard to believe? It seems so easy for me to understand and so hard for others. Maybe it is because I grew up poor. Respectfully, ~J

I also do not believe in taxing the higher income citizens. I am a recent college graduate and my husband is in graduate school. As of now, we are way under the tax bracket increase, however we have hopes of success. How can it be right to penalize the responsible hard working citizens? It's not!!! You all may think that Obama is for the middle income family but he's not. Did you realize that he was ranked #2 in receiving the most contributions from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Obama tries to blame it all on the Republicans but he only has himself to blame. Fannie and Freddie have been creations of the congressional Democrats and the Clinton White House, designed to make mortgages available to more people and, as it turns out, some people who couldn't afford them. BTW, I was at the Sarah Palin rally last night and it was electrifying! People need to wake up and vote for the right reasons. Some of you are voting for Obama because you say he's black, but he's just as much white as black.

I believe she was calling on all Christians and if you do read the Bible it does say thou shalt not kill. For those women who face a pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to go ahead with the pregnancy. There are options -seek immediate help at the hospital where drugs can be given which will prevent the fertilized egg from attaching. The odds are an unwanted pregnancy wouldn't result. There isn't a need to have to wait until there is a heart beating and willfully kill a baby. As a Christian, I have the right to voice that opinion and not imply others with altering ones are idiots. I'll just pray GOD opens the eyes of all Christians and have them vote their morals not pocket books.

By the way I am also a college graduate, hardworking, non-lazy American man. I also believe every American has the right to an education. Every person in the USA has the right to get college loans and then work to pay it them off. The government shouldn't be made to give everyone a free ride. I work hard for a living and pay my bills that I make. Why should the Democrats use my hard earned tax money to pay for others to get a free ride. Get a job and pay your bills America! If you can not pay off the loan do not make it! If the Democratic controlled government had not made these loans available to people that can not afford them our economy would be in better shape.

Some of you are crazy. Why should Mr. Dentist, Mr. Investor, Mr. Business owner, myself and others who make a decent living be punished by a tax hike because we make a good living. That is an insult to me. We go out, work hard, and put in the time and paid the dues required, and yet we get the burden of a tx hike, while some of you sit on your rear end all day and exspect my tax hike to give you a tax break...that is pathetic. I am registered Democrat, but OBAMA is an idiot, all of his plans stink. Never will he get my vote......What an insult

Posted by: Helen Location: Greenville on Oct 8, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Yeah Crystal!! You are not at liberty to make adult decisions for yourself therefore the government should tell you what you have the right to do to your body as a women. Maybe you should spend some time volunteering at local centers and listen to women that have become impregnanted as a result of a rape or incest. Do you feel as though these women should be forced to have these children because of your religious beliefs? I think somewhere in the Bible it talks about not judging others, why don't you look into that for me. If a man calls himself a Christian is it is okay if he consistently lies!! P.S. Your boy McCain is not the sharpest tool in the shed, he graduated five spots ahead of the last person in his class. I wonder why his plane got shot down!

Julianne, you are going to indeed get a U-turn. You will see jobs lost due to tax hikes to the business owners. Why would raising taxes on the wealthy even come close to boosting the economy. Small business owner or large business owners for that matter WILL cut employees to make up the difference. What about that is so hard to understand by you Obama supporters. I think you need a dose or two of common sense. His plan is insain for the economy!!! Then you lose your job and wonder what happened??? WAKE UP!!!

I watched on Cable Channel 167 and I might have enjoyed it if not for the lady smacking on her gum, the clown on the cell phone (likely talking to friends to see if they could see him on TV), the older man yelling toward Sarah at the top of his lungs from just a few feet away, his significant other obviously scolding him, and the lady who kept looking up to her left to see herself on the big screen. Come on people, do you know what idiots you all looked like? Maybe listening to her would have enlightened you. Instead, what I saw was a crowd of folks who embarrassed me. Why can't people act their age, listen and learn about the issues and the candidates to make an educated decision on where our country is going? These distractions were sad.

I was very disappointed to see that WITN chose to air Gov. Palin on their digital weather channel instead of their home station. But I am sure they will have some "legitimate" excuse as to why. I'm sure if Biden comes to town, he will be aired live, as Obama was.

He speaks CLEARLY and DIRECTLY about his plan for change, I'm afraid that you are clearly not listening. I am a college graduate, have a full-time job and am not HELPLESS or LAZY Momof3. I am a white woman who has student loans out the ears and believes in a change for our education system. Affordable college for all of the students I teach. For my future children. Open your EYES! I am not Joking! Well let me tell you how it is, straight up talk here! I am a registered Democrat. I run a very good business. I to make well over $250,000 a year. Some of you may even work for me or know someone that does. As a business owner, if I get my taxes raised because I am "so called" wealthy, I will immediately have to fire some of my employees to make up the difference in my raised taxes. You can call Obama's plan great if you wish, but if my taxes get raised any higher than they already are, I will have no choice but to let go some of my employees. Simple as that. So, when you Obama voters vote for him, think about that when you lose your job to cover a tax hike. His plan really helps the economy don't it???? His plan is a pure rediculous for the economy!! As stated before I am a Democrat, but no way will I vote for this non-sense knowing I will have to release people from their jobs!! Take it how you want it, but that is what I will have to do!!!

After reading some of the comments I must say it is unfortunate that if you talk to someone who is African American coming out of a Christian church and ask them who they are voting for they say Obama, but inside those doors they preach and pray to the God of the Bible, the same God that Obama denounces and believes in abortion. I must agree that this election comes down to skin color alone for A LOT of people. Then again, the people of any race that can make everyone TAKE CARE of them rather than doing it themselves will vote that same way-- it should be the democratic motto-- VOTE HELPLESS and LAZY, vote democrat. The only one who fought for my freedom and yours--GO McCain- the only mom dealing with similar issues as all mothers--GO Palin--------McCain/Palin 2008!

It finally hits home- All of these neocons and evangelicals are simply terrified of the idea of a black president. That's probably the main reason why a lot of the supporters at the ECU/Nuremburg rally last night look at Palin as the second coming of Christ, much like the conservatives did to Bush in 2000.

Posted by: oh please Location: NC on Oct 8, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Hey, Big Bubba, to your comment about Palin's crowd being all white.....did you look at the line waiting to see Michelle Obama? In all the interviews I have seen with voters, I can only recall maybe 2 blacks that weren't voting for Obama. That is very telling, isn't it? Even more telling is the fact that Palin has far more experience than Obama . Sorry, but you can't convince me that her serving as both a mayor and governor is somehow out-weighed by a ''community organizer''!Not to mention the fact that this man is close friends with a domestic terrorist and a blatantly racist ''preacher''. If it were McCain with such a dubious background, you guys would be screaming in protest. But no, it's Obama, so you defend him and change the subject. Maybe we should change ''Yes We Can'' to ''NO WE SHOULD'NT'' !

To McCainPalin in/Greenville, You couldn't have said it better. The blacks are going to vote for Obama only and I mean only because he is half black. They don't care what he stands for. As always, they think he is going to give them something free because he is half black. What else is new. But I know one thing, if he does win, they will be sorry for voting for him when they see what he stands for. They will be sorry.

I attended the Sarah Palin rally last night and felt that it was an honor to have Palin, Dole, McCroy, Pate, and so on come to eastern North Carolina to speak to each of us who went with an open mind. The speeches were right on target for my way of thinking. But that's the wonderful thing about America - Freedom to think and vote for the candidate of your choice. Men and women die to protect your right to speak out and assemble for your cause. I'm not sure what tomorrow will bring and neither are the candidate (either side). You must vote for the candidate that speaks to your convictions. That's what makes America - America. I will vote "R". McCain/Palin all the way and with God's grace America will survive these troubling times in the same great manner that we have over come in the past. McCain/Palin 2008.

Do you think its possible for a radical islamic terrorist to infiltrate our democratic system and become president? alot of obama's past suggests that. whether or not this is true or just plain silly, im not willing to take the chance. Even if Bush was running for a third term.

to those who ask why the audience at Palin's rally was all white- it's because the black people are all out there voting for Obama, regardless of what he stands for, and simply because of what he looks like. Wake up, America. He's a socialist and will ruin this country. McCain Palin 08!

Posted by: America first on Oct 8, 2008 at 06:39 AM
I can't beleive the people that are for Obama. He has to be the most non American person running for President that I have ever seen, and that scares me. If he gets it America will never be the same and there will be no more freedom , that's why so many stars are for him.

the only way to fix this is for Americans to stop living beyond their means buckle down and save money every thing that needs to be fixed is gonna hurt there is no easy fix we as a people need to stop voting the same people in who do the same thing tightin the belt and save yourself

Smear and fears tactics. Thats what you do when you're out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time. This rally looked like a bad episode of Hee-Haw. I sincerely hope McCain keeps talking about people like Ayers. Maybe hes forgotten about seeking the endorsement of John Hagee, the guy that called the Catholic church "the great whore". If you want to get into someone palling around with terrorist, I suggest everyone go look up a guy by the name of G. Gordon Liddy. McCain seems to like to pall around with him, even though he was involved in Watergate and tried to assassinate Reporter Anderson. We could even talk about Palin's husband being a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. You know, the group founded on "I won't be buried under that (America's) damn flag."

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Oct 8, 2008 at 02:21 AM
Well, Tina Fey does a great job of impersonating The Bimbo. Now there is word of an adult video being made about her. This woman is an embarassment to this country. All of you flag waving, soldier worshipping evangelicals and neocons better be careful what you wish for. So wrap yourselves in the flag, bow to your precious military, and get ready for the police state that will come if this idiot and Vietnam burnout running mate are elected.

1. If I came to your front door and told you that I spent an evening at the home of a known terrorist who hates America; I bought a million-dollar home with the help of a criminal, now imprisoned; and my pastor hates white folks and he hates America----would you invite me into your home? 2. As far as I'm concerned, the Palin's are welcome to stay at my house and the Whitehouse for up to say----eight years. 3. Judge a man by his character and abilities rather than his oratorical skills. Hitler and Rasputin both had a mesmerizing effect on people and they both were the incarnation of evil and deceit.

To the women who came 20 min. to 7p.m., complained to anyone and everyone (including the news), and how McCain has lost her vote over such a trivial matter as having a ticket and not getting in... maybe you should try to show up a little early for an event of this caliber if it meant so much to you...some people waited in that line for 9 hours to get in. Be thankful they provided an overflow area so that many more could have the opportunity to take part in an historical event.

The Obama supporters must not work (the front porch type) or either have enough money that they want to give all theirs away just like he does. Don't foget that democrats are the majority in Congress...hence all the BS they've pledged to the non-working class. Free gas, free food, etc. Hell, they have it made... they eat better than I do. Check out their grocery carts on the 3rd of the month...steak for the whole family...even the dog. They can barely push it while the whole family loads it up. I'm tired of supporting you, get a job. If Obama gets in, here comes more handouts to you so get in line. I'm tired of supporting your gas vouchers while you drive your Lincoln Navigator...need I say more?!?!?!?!

To those of you concerned about Palin's lack of experience I say this...Why are you not concerned about Obama's lack of experience? Palin has actually run TWO governments. One on a township level and one on a state level. Obama has written two books and voted present 130 some odd times. Why do you think he voted present instead of taking a firm stand? Because he knew he was going to run for President and he didn't want to have a record that he would have to actually explain. Therefore he is painted into no corners to have to explain his way out of. I have more respect for a man that takes a position and backs it up or stands on it even if I think he is an idiot for thinking that way. Why has no one spoken of what he actually accomplished as a community organizer? Maybe because he only worked at it but did not succeed at accomplishing his goals? He has been being groomed for the Presidency since he gave his speech at the DNC. That is why he has no record. It was intentional. Wake up!

Tonight, while visting Greenville, Sarah Palin should have stopped by HOOTERS restaurant, and applied for a job. She seems well qualified at slinging hash. Also, she has great winking and blinking skills! PS: Why was her audience entirely White?

Hero Vs. Zero and that's the facts! Go McCain/Palin

PLEASE Republicans, put this woman at the top of your ticket next time. She is like W. and Cheney all rolled up into one candidate. If W. and Dick somehow had a daughter, Sarah is their illegitimate offspring (the thought is nauseating to say the least!).

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 7, 2008 at 11:49 PM
To F ..Palin is running for VP and your candidate (the half term Senator/community organizer) has even less experince so lets put things in perspective where you say...."I am uncomfortable with her lack of experience...she might have to be President...not in that class I'm afraid..".

McCain/Palin 08. Finally someone that knows what they are doing. Obama does not know what he is doing. Obama is not to be trusted and if you vote for him, you will see that you will be very sorry if he wins. I love MaCain/Palin.

Not so sure anyone who has 7 homes, an excessive income with VA and SS benefits on top of a Congressional salary and a multimil. worth of SO behind him can relate to one such as myself...barely can pay the mortgage, injured on the job after 20 years, fighting with workman's comp for coverage...now unemployed d/t the injury and paying out of pocket for min. health ins almost as much per month as my mortgage...Palin was placed by McCain to show up Hilary...dirty, spiteful dealing...I am uncomfortable with her lack of experience...she might have to be President...not in that class I'm afraid...

Posted by: Greg Location: Greenville on Oct 7, 2008 at 09:45 PM
The Obamanites never will admit that character is an important factor to consider when voting for president. Thats because their candidate has none. He depises America. You are known by the company you keep. Obama has friends like the racist, America hating Jeremiah Wright and the terriorist Bill Ayers. McCain has real character and has actually fought for this country. Do not put Barrack "America is a down right mean country" Obama as President. We all will regret it! Vote Smart, Vote McCain/Palin!

hey palin and mccain....if you 2 are so smart...why are you both resorting to terrorism and threats? i am a democrat, and am sick of being lumped as a liberal. i want HONESTY and INTEGRITY back in the White House... not an insecure senator from arizona and a lipstick pig that needs to go to alaska and take care of her beautiful baby and pregnant teenage daughter. You are not a good mother palin for leaving your family.

Palin was better in person than SNL. history was made...for a great laugh, and sadly at the greenville citizens expense. Many people need to wake up and not listen to the nonsense of the Republican ticket. The sign in NY was taken down because we are in such debt...or the republican administration has screwed us over...that a new sign has to be made larger because we are in so much debt...need i say more? vote obama -biden for a winning ticket. vote early

There is one simple sentence that sums up the Republican Party right now... "Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures." You Conservatives want to attack Obama's morality...? I suppose John McCain having an affair on his first wife with Cindy McCain is moral? Can you begin to IMAGINE what sorts of things would be said about Obama if he was unfaithful to his wife. The Republicans aren't going to get this country anywhere and I don't see how anyone could vote for McBush. God forbid something happen to that man and Palin had to run the country. I'm leaving the US if that happens!

You can't spell (herslef). Furthermore, Sarah is not the one who recently retired; check your comment . . . You can't even write!!!

Would those 3 major news broadcasts be the LIBERAL THREE? Take those blinders off and look at the big picture. Anyway, what ya so worried about if you are so sure about "the Great one"? Funny to me! :) I've got my Palin Power smile on! OH and if she is a "fence post turtle" she has some company at the next post over with Obama except he rocks back and forth on his post! I'm smiling again! I'm proud of her because she tells it like it is no matter who likes it or not! As she said to the protester at one of her speeches, "Sir, I have a son in Iraq fighting for your right to protest!" Love it!

I love how conservatives are automatically judged as racists. People want to talk talk about something they know nothing about. My values and beliefs are what make me conservative, not my hate for a interracial presidential pick. I could care less that Obama is different than me in looks, in fact I embrace that wholeheartedly. I only want the truth, hear me, the TRUTH, GOD's truth to shine in this election. It will not be brought to the surface by Obama or Biden, but through Palin and McCain perhaps this country can see that change isn't going to happen when you put your faith in good sounding promises made by immoral men, but through individuals who put their faith in the one true GOD.

Wow....so great to see her in Greenville. I can't wait to vote. I'm just so surprised at the response/opinions some people have of her, but even more surprised at how people are falling in love with Obama. You think this country is in bad shape now, wait until he has 4 years. I can't believe where this country is going. We all need to pray for God's guidance and put God and Bible truth first.

Posted by: teacher Location: here on Oct 7, 2008 at 08:22 PM
I cant believe that any of you believe that after the election our money, health, and job worries will be over. Both of these men will hurt the American people, not because they want to, but because they have too. That is left out of both candidates campaigns. Yes, change is the only thing that never dies, and Obama should stop "inventing" change--it has always been here and will always be here--even when the next candidate runs for office. People should really research and ask questions about the "plans" these so-called gentlemen have---either way you look at it---your wallet is in trouble.

I continue to be embarrassed and humilitated by the Republican VP canidate. She is uneducated, illiterate, poorly read, inexperienced and is a pawn for McCain. She is so stupid that she allows herslef to pass information which is incorrect and has already been invalidated by at least 3 major newsbroadcasts. As a recent retiree who held a second in command administrative position in a powerful organization, Sarah should gracefully remove herself. She is the " fence post turtle ". Surely, someone in the R outfit can give her guidance on this matter.--after all one week of cramming for a leadership role in American might clue her in on what an embarrassment she will be.

Posted by: Dianne Location: Greenville on Oct 7, 2008 at 06:38 PM
I think he will take North Carolina, but even if he doesn't, it will be close enough to prove that the Republican stronghold on this state is finally broken. Nationally, I don't think it's even going to be close on November 4th. One of them will win by a landslide, and right now it's looking like Obama.

If I hear we need more regulation I will throw up! Banks, Fannie/Mae, Freddy/Mac are the most regulated agencies in the country. Now the government steps in and that adds fuel to the fire. Many other companies, like the ones in Silicon Valley are unregulated. When they fail, they go out of business, and someone else takes its palce. That is how CAPITALISM works. We are paying the price because of a few bad apples in the corporate world. Their are alot of them in the government also.

So neil will pay more taxes to provide health care for all. After the politiians tie their pork to the bill, you better be making in excess of $250k to pay for it. The $700B bailout had pork tied to it when it passed still and that's going to cost each taxpayer approx. $3000. A great concept but too many in Washington have agendas that would destroy it. Ever met a lobbyist?

Do you want to get out of that dump you are living in? With Obama as President, you can soon own your own home with affordable payments! You only make $7 an hour? No problem! Is $50 a month low enough for you? Good! Oh? You can't pay the electric and water bill? No problem! He will provide that, too with his new energy program designed to keep your water and lights going all year long! Are you living in a nice, large home? Shame on you, where's your guilt? Don't you realize your "brother" needs a home too? Obama is going to help you assuage your guilt and aid your "brother"? How?! Raise your income tax rate, silly! Isn't it a wonderful plan?! What? You can't afford your mortgage payments any longer if you have to pay more taxes? No problem! Obama has a plan for you! See those nice homes being built down the street for your "brothers" that were living in dumps? You can have one too with a payment tailored to fit your new net income level. In Obama world no one can envy his neighbor.

To heart doc & dentist, You'll love this. In Ohio some dolt spent a day this week transporting people from, of all places, a drug rehab center to register to vote. It is inconceivable that people actually think this is in the countries best interest. I am not voting for any incumbents on election day. People don't seem to get it that America is broke $$. No money = no freebies. Stop living beyond your means, get an education, & a job, & wake up America!

Posted by: hope Location: NC on Oct 7, 2008 at 04:10 PM
To making ends meet, It is not the problem of the rich to ensure you & I have our needs met. The dentist & cardiologist went to school & trained for a couple dozen years. With a free education a large population in America still refuse to get educated. We will be in serious trouble if these professionals decide at some point that it is not worth it, & stop doing what they do. Why should they be taxed any more. America's problems will not be solved by taking away from those that have worked & earned. Government needs to stop the give freebies. People need to stop living beyond their means.

Hi "making ends meet". I already do pay more taxes because I make more money. I am in the same boat with Heart Dr., Dentist and Business Owner. I suggest you go back to School and get a good education,so you can make the type of money we make. So you do not have bill problems. It is never to late that is the greatness of our country we do not have a class system. You can be anything you wish to be.. You can become a Dr. or Dentist or a Stock & Bond Broker like me I passed my Series 7&63 Licensing Exams at 48 years old. I lost my job in 1995 went back to school, and never looked back. You can do it " make ends meet " the only one preventing your success is yourself.

If we are going to go down this road, fine then. Say we made a push towards universal health care and telling HMOs to get lost. I would gladly pay more taxes for free health care because everyone in the country would get it. Caring about your fellow man, that old jazz. What the American Way used to be. The thing is, I am not as selfish as many of you. You say you are Christians but you are letting pride get the better of you and the last time I checked, that is a sin. On another note, I have a middle name as well, but I don't go running around telling people it because it is my middle name. Rational logic, isn't it great.

Hello Neil, think the point is if you work do you want to support those that don't? Thats socialism, Redistribuition of weath. So what would be the point to working hard to get ahead if you know the harder your worked the more money was taken away. No, I am not in the salary wage by not means. Out of the box means solutions to problems with new thinking. Going to Obamas web site, he is in the box with the left, way left liberals. Socialism doesn't work and has failed many countries over time. By the way, Hussian is an muslum name in most of the world. Why would you not want it mentioned unless you had something to hide?

Posted by: Obama will only win by popularity! Location: Washington, NC on Oct 7, 2008 at 02:52 PM
Obama's ideas "sound" good to people. He saying all the things people want to "hear" right now in our oppressed society. What he DOES if elected is probably a totally different story. Please, please look at all of the facts on both candidates and PRAY that the candidate you choose has his ear to God and leads our nation to better and brighter days. Don't just listen to Obama or McCain.....research what they are saying to see if it is accurate and if it makes sense. For example, do you really think it is possible for EVERY American to have health insurance? Research what it will take to make that happen. Don't just believe that Obama can do it because he says he can. Do not be deceived. This is one of the most important elections in the history of our nation if not THE most important. I have never voted before, but I am making sure that I vote this year because I believe our future president will MAKE or BREAK our nation.

HEART and DENTIST, it is your patriotic duty to pay more taxes! How will we ever make the move to communism if you don't do your part. I'm really glad to see Mrs. Karl Marx in town and talking to the military familys that are going to be cut down to nothing if she gets her way.

Posted by: Randy Location: Greenville on Oct 7, 2008 at 02:36 PM

To heart dr and dentist, you should have to pay more taxes based on the fact you make more. When was the last time you had to juggle bills and give up extras to put food on the table or gas in your car?

Posted by: Heart Dr. Location: Greenville on Oct 7, 2008 at 02:01 PM
I am right along with you Mr. Dentist. I make voer $250,000 a year as well. I am not bragging, I have worked very hard for what I have. Now I am in the "so called" few that will have my taxes raised if Obama is elected. That's just great, tax my hard work!! Obama is an idiot!!!!!

Posted by: Neil Location: Greenville on Oct 7, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Talking about socialism like it is a dirty word? The last time I checked, this government actually has many socialist programs...the police, the fire departments, libraries, schools, etc. If they were all like health care now, how much would you like to pay a bill after you call the 911 to save your home from burning down and be turned down because you cannot afford it? Look outside the xenophobic box and take in the big picture. One of the reasons Obama is my candidate. Also, what is with this Barack Hussian stuff? Yes, I know it is his middle name. Do I care? No. Why do you ask? Because it is a common name in the rest of the big ol' world.

Someone on one of these websites challenged people to go to obama's website to learn all about him. I went their, & would like to report that he does not address his affiliations with ACORN, etc. This guy is a big mystery.

If some of you think the weathy are just the republicans, guess again. Either party is full of millionaires with Soros being one willing to spend on dems for his desired policies, whatever they may be. He is a socialist but a weathy one. Obama and McCain aren't one of us in this way either. The closest thing to us is Palin. Looking at both the canidates, am democrat, we don't have a choice here. Obama speaks well and has a good personality but has a shady past in his associations. McCain has the least amount of trash in his past. In fact, he does tell the truth. Palin and Biden, both are qualified, Palin is clean but Biden has the FM&FM against him since he fought to keep the status quo going with them. These are the facts dispute them as you may. Some of you claim to do your homework, call the canidates names, whatever, you really do not know Obama.

i have a weird idea...... Lets stop the welfare system! there's billions of dollars a year that we could put in the economy.... i met a guy at a gas station located at charles blvd. / 14th st. whom was on "disability" collecting 490.00 a month. i asked him if was in the war or something, he said no, i just don't feel right all the time.... he then bought a malt beer in a glass bottle and left. lets put that man to work, and make him pay taxes!!!!!! an you wonder what is wrong with the system..... theres your problem!

PS I am a Newark, NJ Cop on vacation in Greenville to see familly. You do not know how good you have it living here in North Carolina. Go McCain /Palin

To Trucker: Democrats all believe that it will good if Obama imposes tax on those making $250K annual. I say watch your economy crumble if that occurs. They already pay over 50% of the entire tax base and provide jobs and money exchange in an economy that desparately needs it. I don't know anyone collecting unemployment that owns a business and provides a significant stimulus for the economy. Tax those that do and they'll cut jobs and stop buying products that support jobs which will hurt middle class America even more. Tax the drivers of the economy MORE? Now thats a village idiot.

to Sue , Sue...... i love it when someone calls one of us a Redneck. Espicially when the person doing the calling has no clue what it actually means, or where it came from.. "Redneck" is actually a good thing to call someone.... The term came from the 1930's when a group of HARD WORKING miners had to battle the court system over work issues. to unite all the miners wore red bandana's around their neck's....which were actually the same bandana's that covered their mouths while at work in the mines... so yes SUE>>> call us hard working people who are ready to stand up for what isn't right....ANY TIME YOU WANT! and we will thank you, by to continuing to WORK hard so you dont have too......but i'm sure your a well acomplished teacher, or law professor of something....RIGHT..!

Posted by: Kellie Location: Eastern NC on Oct 7, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Okay...first of all don't think "backwoods redneck" is going to offend someone b/c thats a compliment to me. That's where I came from. As far as no weapons goes. What is someone breaks in your home and holds your child hostage? What are you going to do? Beat them with ur pocketbook? Come on people if the laws were tighter and parents were stricter on their children we wouldn't have the problems that we have today with gun control. John McCain Rocks!

I have not read all of your comments but just enough to know that there are still a lot of backward thinking people in this state. You talk about Obama raising taxes> never mind that if McCain/Palin are elected and you have to PAY out of pocket for your own healthcare. If you have a pre-existing condition most insurance companies can and will deny you coverage and where will that leave you? NO MEDICAL CARE!!! You are already paying more in taxes for the simple fact that the Republicans only gave the "rich" a tax break, why do you think these oil companies are breaking the bank!! WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Also, do any of you seriously want a Pres. who has been in Congress for 26 years and basically accomplished NOTHING!! And a VP who is SCARED to answer any question asked to her directly? She does need a "life line" and some sense to go along with it.

Most people want a better country, but aren't willing to search out the candidates to find out what they REALLY stand for. This country was founded on certain beliefs, anyone willing should do a websearch for videos of Obama (not his previous pastor) denouncing the Bible and talking about the US and how it relates. It might make you think twice about him being a man of his word... he claims to be one way and he says very different things. The only "change" he brings is his words and actions they CHANGE constantly. As for his ability you actually have to have an option to run a country.

Obama's message is what this country needs. Here in the South people judge each other by skin and wealth and refuse to give smart people a chance to prove themselves. I voted Bush both past elections and could kick myself in the backside. McCain is just more of the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss the days when Ronald Reagan inspired us to do better and be better as a country. These present day political hacks are just that--"hacks."

Posted by: Cody Location: Winterville on Oct 7, 2008 at 08:21 AM
The voters in this election who vote for Obama if he is elected will get a disappointing politician. His platform of change will not happen because he will have very little funds to do what he has promised. The election of this politician will only divide this country further with his socialstic agenda. I already fill that I pay to much in taxes now. If he is elected we will be saddled with more taxes to help pay for programs that have moved this country into the poor house, example: A.C.O.R.N.. If you are unaware of this organization read about them and you will find the relationship Obama has with them radical enough to make your blood boil. Mccain/Palin '08

We don't need another 4 or 8 years of business as usual under the republican reich. I just pray that the best man wins.

Isn't it still their right to vote? If these black people were voting for McCain would you be complaining? And how can you read these people minds? I'm insulted as a black person...you make it sound as if I'm only voting for Obama because of his color. Well morons I've been voting since i was 18 and all I've had to choose from was white male against white male. But you know, i think just the opposite, i think a lot of people won't vote for Obama because he is black. He will still win...the people have come out in masses to make sure that happens. That's a lot of your problems....you underestimate us! That makes you sleepy. You don't even see it coming do you?

Someone mentioned the film "Obsession" - for the record, anyone who has seen that film and thinks its truth, be warned - this film is straight propaganda and a disgraceful attempt to make Islam look like an awful faith. It's appalling how bad this film is. While members of Al Qaeda and other terrorist netowrks may be Muslim, they do not define Islam or its followers any more than Eric Rudolph or the KKK (which claims to be a Christian organization) define Christianity. Please try to view what these politicians, and for that matter, anyone, says with an objective view instead of letting partisan or 'country first' type of thinking cloud your judgement about anything. There are a lot of people who are out for power and prestige, not for your safety or well-being.

Boy, can Sarah stir up the comments. I would have though Michelle would have produced more comments than Sarah. She has someone stired up when words like "village idiot, joke, loser, morons etc," are used. The national media is supporting articles that say the attact on Obama by Sarah is racist, but Obamas attact on McCain is not. I do feel that we will have more blacks voting in thia election than any other in history, WHY? To vote for a black man, not for the platform.

Why haven't we seen his white grandmother on the campaign trail? I do believe she is still alive. If Mama McCain can do it, she should be able to! That would help this racism thing alot I believe. It makes me believe that he has some resentment to his white side which is why he went searching for his black side in the southside of Chicago. He turned his back on his white roots and he certainly has proven that in his books, he has a problem with it. And I sure haven't seen his White grandmama! Every other relative he has was shown somewhere, even brother George living in a shack in some 3rd world country. What a wonderful brother keeper Obama is! So why doesn't he show off grandma? Because I believe he believes what Jeremiah believes. He sat there 20 years for some reason!

He is a brainless imbecile. The time of men using women has long since passed. “WAKE UP WOMEN” just because Palin is to dumb to know she is being used “WE ARE NOT ALL MORONS”. Women is this the change you want for the women in this country? I wanted one woman in the Whitehouse “Hillary” she never got it so I am taking the next best two Obama\Biden. If Hillary runs in four years I will be more than glad to vote for her :)

My one concern is that if the wrong one gets in, we'll be "bailing out" everyone at the cost of the taxpayers. Oh, and along those lines, if Palin were to be having her "9th child", at least she'd be paying for it and not the government.

lavon - The economy was put in this tailspin by clinton. The liberals wanted every one to own a home and forced banks to give loans to people who could not afford them. Just because the pile of crap the democrats is now falling to the ground during a republicans term in office doesnt mean all republicans are responsible. and FYI McCain and Bush are 2 diffrent people with very diffrent policys. just because McCain doesnt believe in surrendering in Iraq does not make him the same person as Bush. I suggest you turn off the TV and pick up a book, or do your own research into politics. The media will spin it pro Obama (example:CNN) or Pro McCain (example:Fox News). I suggest all people make decisions on true facts and not what the TV says.

If you don't watch Fox news to get the facts then you are not getting the fact. Most Media says little on Obamas past but Fox's Hannity's America scares the hell out of what this guy is about. If you don't, don't vote. We need responsible voters at the polls. All the name calling and mud throwing, none of it has stuck to Obama. Im loving it!! Hey you guys keep all this up, this kind of filth from your party is the nail in the coffin for John Mccain's campaign. The more trash you talk and the more political mud you throw the further you fall in the polls. You know why? Because your candidate Mccain/Palin has no substance. I mean anytime you have a vp candidate go into a debate and basically tell the moderator that she's not answering the questions, The only response to that is WOW!! Mccain/Palin has crashed and burn. Sorry guy's but pick up the pieces and go home and put your puzzle back together and come back in 8 years. Once you get past the charisma and the empty speeches, all you have left with Obama is just another liberal. He'll raise your taxes, take guns from everyone but the criminals[because no criminal will be deterred by any gun laws, they tend to ignore our laws, which is why we call them criminals]and try to appease our country's enemies, rather than defend us against them. If he wins, maybe afterward you and your friends will finally wake up and smell the coffee, but it'll be too late. Nice going !

I think alot of people are in denial about the radical views of many individuals in our country and abroad and we need to open our eyes. We are seeing history repeat itself. Obama is scary, he is affiliated with several radical individuals. Who is going to believe that he is not going to carry these opinions to the White House? Sarah Palin and John McCain are not afraid to tell it like it is. Anyone seen the film "Obsession"? If you have not you should, very eye opening!

McCain should change his name to Mr.Magoo and his side kick Stupid. She makes a fool out of herself everywhere she goes. No way they are going in the white house. Obama IS the biracial energizer bunny and he can't be stopped. You couldn't even if you wanted. Do you know what next month is? It is the month Obama will become president! You sleepy people have no idea what is happening right underneath you. But if you think MaGoo is winning your fooling yourself. LOL you are watching unity at its realest....blacks, whites, Hispanics, biracial, Asians, old, young...we have it all. What do republicans have...old white men, racist, and confused black people. I am proud to say I will be voting for McCain/Palin.I for one have stopped watching the liberal media and only watch FOX.I am also getting rid of HBO they can keep they Maher,Pellosi documentaries and Generation Kill propaganda. We all need to boycott these networks, they are so one sided. Taxes may go up due to the 700bil but I trust McCain not to raise taxes on businesses and kill our already ailing economy.I also believe his increase would be nothing compared to Obama's. It also bothers me that Barack doesnt use his middle name.Whats he hiding! When you look at the previous Pres. debate it said allot that McCain referred to his opponent with respect Sen. Obama even when Barrack continually referred to McCain as John. So when Barrack Husein sits down with Amedinajhad what will he refer to him as????????Picture that diplomatic moment:):)But dont worry "say it aint so Joe" can make up some lies to spin it.It amazed me how well Biden lied he'd be a great Poker player..

To C, I have noticed that the mainstream media has given Sarah Palin far more attention and scrutiny this month. That is because they like seeing her make a fool out of her self. She is doing an outstanding job of it too. :)

If you look around N.C. you see more MCCAIN/PALIN signs than any of the obama HUSSIAN signs. I know quite a few myself that are voting McCain/Palin this year!!!! So don't be so sure of something until you know what's REALLY going on!!!! Oh I forgot that you are one of those liberial democrats and that is one of your qualities that you can't help.HA!HA!HA!. To C..the Obama campaign could have virtually run without contributions thanks to the liberal media...who are you kidding! The sky is blue, the grass is green and Barak Obama has been given a ridiculous boost by the liberal media from the word go. It just happens that a fraction of that attention is focused away from your messiah at the moment but don't worry yourself to death over it..as I'm sure he'll get elected. I wonder if Barry and Michelle will have all the American flags removed from the whitheouse when they move in? Probably..since they obviously offend him so much! Enjoy the taxes and socialism!

Am I the only one who's noticed that the mainstream media has given Sarah Palin far more attention and scrutiny in one month than they've given Obama in two years ? Why won't they subject him to all these same tough questions and far-reaching probes into his past and associations ? They won't, because the liberal media is clearly pro-Obama and will do anything to help him win, and everything to make McCain / Palin lose. Don't agree? Look at how Barbara Walters swooned over Obama when he appeared on ''The View'', then absolutely slammed McCain a week or so later. The NY Times ran Obama's editorial but refused to run McCain's. The age of impartial, objective reporting of the news, if it ever existed, is GONE. Having said that, a tip of the hat to Fox news, and also this webpage, for giving all opinions a fair shake.

I can't wait to see Michelle Obama as our first lady, im so excited!! She's so beautiful. She exemplifies everything a woman should be. She's smart educated and knows how to answer questions. Palin comes off to me as someone with a 11th grade education. I am so dissapointed in her lack of common sense and integrity. Mccain's campaign is OVER!!!

We will move this Nation towards the future and you will either get on the bus or stay on the porch and continue to complain the rest of your life away. It is no wonder that people had difficulty getting Palin tickets. The campaign telephone was messed up part of Friday which prevented people from calling. There was one time announced on tv for when tickets and different one in the paper. When arriving at headquarters people were told still another time. Upon arriving at the time given by the campaign we arrived to find that they had started giving out tickets 30 mins earlier that we were told. I have also heard two different times given for when the doors open. And for Katie, we were told at the headquarters that she speaks at 7:00.

To Katie....She speaks at 6pm. You can get free tickets at the Republican Hdqts on Evans street in Greenville. There were long lines the past two days.

90% of blacks vote for the Democrats every national election. That will become more irrelevant every 4 years, as the Hispanics, already the largest minority group will be about 25% of the population by 2025. I will not address the "igorance issue", you alluded to in your comment, as witn did not post my last retort. End of discussion.

To Jessica finch...Unemployment is not at an all time high. I remember unemployment rates at 9%, and interest rates for home mortgages at 16%. During the Depression it was 30%. Alot of people are paying 22% for their credit card debt, because of bad decision making and not reading the fine print. No elected President will improve individual decision making and standard of living. People need to get out of the 'EVERYTHING NOW" mindset and establish goals and go for them. SUCCESS takes time and effort!

Posted by: Devil Dog Location: New Bern on Oct 4, 2008 at 06:00 AM
To lavon...In 1964, President Lyndon B. JOHNSON(D) promised the blacks everything and gave them nothing. This was the start of the "Great Society". All he did, and the DEMOCRATS continue to do, is try to OPPRESS the people they say they helping to get votes. Why are blacks stigmatized, by other blacks, when they become successful? When 90% of the blacks vote for one party all the time something is wrong. Maybe, if they would split their votes, both parties would become more involved? Free handouts to anyone, regardless of race, stifles peoples initiative to better themselves. Where has Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Rev. Wright and the rest of the "radicals" of the 60's been lately. That's right nowhere to be found. They are lurking in the shadows waiting for the "birdseed". MOTIVATION comes from within, not from a bunch of politicians feeding you "horse manure". What party did Abe Lincoln represent???

Ok im getting ready to challenge all that say blacks are only voting for Obama because he's black. Answer this question. If Barack Obama had not won the nomination, who would blacks be voting for? Would they be voting for the republican candidate or would they be voting for the democratic candidate?? So basically from what I gather is that if Hillary Clinton had won the nomination are you trying to tell me that majority of african americans would be voting for Mccain? is that what your telling me? Please answer my question and don't get Sarah Palin disease and dodge the question that was asked because you can't come up with an intelligent answer. Little Woman: I am 100% black and if MLK Jr. or General Colin Powell, a commissioned second lieutenant in the US Army and the highest ranking African American in the US Govt. and he's retired, were running I would be first in line to vote for them and not because they were black but because they had a platform that meant something to the American people. Unfortunately for some, not all, votes will be cast for Obama because of his color.

It is truely a shame, but fact that there are going to be thousands of voters this election, that have had the chance to vote for years, but never have. Just look at the new register voters this year. The reason like it or not is because of race. There are tons in the Afican American community that have never voted before in their life, but will vote this year because their is an African American running for President. Biden debated better versus Palin than Obama did versus McCain. At least Biden seems like a real person. The Dems have the wrong candidate in the Presidential slot, and this will cost them the election. Palin did good and held her own. If she had debated Obama, someone with less experience than she has, she would have made a slam dunk.

Posted by: da da da Location: eastern nc on Oct 3, 2008 at 09:15 AM
I first thought it was a mistake. But I will tell you this, she has really impressed me. And if any of you think... you know, with the brain God gave you, how many Governor's have actually gone on to be president? So why oh why does anyone question her experience? She is up for Vice President... and I think she can do it! Most are judging, whether they want to admitt it or not, cause she is a woman and the rest are judging cause she is a Republican. Whoopdeedoo! I vote for the person, not the party. I think McCain/Palin are the lesser of the two evils.

Posted by: M/P Location: Washington on Oct 3, 2008 at 08:52 AM
There are a lot of people voting for Obama because he is at least half black. This should not be. I am not voting for someone with no more time in the senate than he does. I do not believe he did not know his pastor was prejudice. His wife just now being proud of her country is shameful. Granted the acceptance of blacks moving up still has a long way to go and we are progressing slowly due to people who still think we don't belong, I don't feel he is the one for this change. He is not a true Black/African American. I am proud to be an american and Barak choosing to 'not look as if her were choosing sides' is pathetic. This is AMERICA. I do believe that McCain has experience with decisions where the military is concerned and he would better benefit our country. I believe an Obama/Biden ticket is a tragedy waiting to happen. Just think of him being president if something happened to Obama. re some of you crazy? McCain/Palin for me.

Sarah Palin is wonderful, smart, and as close to perfect as you can get! That is why democrats are so scared of her! She won the debate hands down! John McCain and Sarah Palin are perfect and will make a PERFRCT PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT! GOD BLESS JOHN MCCAIN AND SARAH PALIN! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Yes, a majority of the citizens in the U.S. are Christian of many different denominations. But other faiths exist and respect for those faiths should be considered. Also, last time I checked, the founding fathers made no mention of founding a Christian nation and we don't live in a Christian theocracy.

Did any of you know that Obama's experience consists of 143 days in the Senate. And so many people think he's ready to be our Commander-in-Chief. Many of you think he is half black and half white, does he look like the other mixed people in our state? No, his Father was mostly Arabic, with one grandmother that was black. His name is Arabic. Wake up people! Pay attention to what is happening. He's an eloquent speaker but he doesn't let out the truth of his heritage.

Posted by: Christopher Location: Greenville on Oct 2, 2008 at 11:55 PM
She needs to learn how to answer a question..well in her case..questions! And to everyone out there, separation of church and state is the only way for this country to succeed. Not everyone believes the same way and "christian" vales should not be forced on those who don't believe in them. Think about every right that you have in your life..now imagine them taken away from you. How would you feel? That is how many feel because we don't all have equal rights.

Posted by: Neil Location: Greenville on Oct 2, 2008 at 08:57 PM
I both respect Senator Obama as well as Senator McCain. I consider both of them honorable men and found it a tough decision for this election year. Until McCain picked Palin as his VP. And this is not because she is a female candidate. It is because we do not know much about her. She has been hidden from the media both liberal and conservative alike. You have to just think about why that is. The only information that sticks out to me is that she supports hunting a predator species by helicopter, which is illegal if not ecologically wrong, for screwing up an ecosystem. Also, she belongs to the Wasilla Assembly of God church, which makes most fundamentalists look mellow. Believing that the Iraq War was a 'task from God'? The last time I checked, the Crusades ended a LONG time ago.

Let's be honest. Palin is kind of a joke as a VP selection. She was selected in order to attract female voters to counter balance Obama’s appeal to minorities. I find it to be ridiculous that people would vote republican just to see a women in a high office, but unfortunately they will. If you support her politics, vote for her. If you support the fact that she’s a woman, that’s silly. And please, nobody in Greenville knew who she was prior to her nomination, so really people, you don’t support her politics. Now Obama supporters…Ease up on Palin. While he may be smarter than she is, he isn’t exactly the model of experience either. The Democratic party likes to advance young, well spoken, “electable” men regardless of what they’ve accomplished. John Edwards was a senator for how long before they trotted him out there? If you know the answer, than you might be smart enough to see similarities in how the party has handled Obama. Don’t get me wrong, Obama may be incredibly capable of being the President, however, at this point in time, he is nominated because he is young, handsome, and speaks well in public. That’s all. He has no record whatsoever to stand on….kinda like Palin. Long story short, both party’s are banking on you to vote for something asthetically appealing rather than substance.

I can't help but wonder why some people expect so much from Palin but don't dare to question Obama. Surely all of you have to agree that the media has given Obama a free pass. Could you imagine the uproar that would have occurred if Palin had received the 2nd highest dollar amount in donations from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac like Obama did. What about the ethics questions that would have been raised if Palin had worked for a corrupt community organization outfit? Obama did.(Groups name is Acorn.)Can you hear the cries of "unqualified idiot" that would have come to Palin if she had said FDR spoke to the people via TV after the stock market crash. BTW FDR wasn't President and there wasn't TV. This is what Biden said. Pay attention people, don't follow blindly. My challenge to all Obama/Biden voters, what have they ever done?

Palin is the one who said in an interview this week that she appealed to the "Joe six-packs" in this country, and that they are ready for someone like her in Washington. If you're offended, blame Sarah, not me. All I did was add the word redneck, which I admit is kind of redundant.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 2, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Palin has no business in this race. McCain ended it for himself when he picked her. Oh, the McCain people will say she won tonight after the debate and the Obama people will say Biden won. This debate will not effect me one way or the other. I know I'm voting Obama/Biden. She never answered a question in the Couric interviews, just talked her way around everything. She might seem a little more up on things tonight because she only has a set time to answer, she won't have enough time to talk in circles.

Being a war hero has alot to do with being President. Anyone who ever served this great country knows the "President" is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and the highest authority. But do know that no matter who's the President, he will get the salute from this countries finest. Personally, I feel political arguments are as productive as trying to mix oil and water. You won't change anyones beliefs just be thankful you live in a country that allows free will.

Obama supporters are all about change. Since Palin has been introduced, everyone sees that she could really make a change in Washington. Obama if elected will bring change. But I do not need any change, I need bills that fold not change in my pocket.

all the palin/maccain supporters really want 2 insecure and wishy washy people running our country? mccain was a war hero, but what the heck does that have to do with being president? after spending time in arizona with palin, mccain realizes what a joke of a choice he made...oh don't worry, we are ready for a good laugh at the debate tonight. Mr. Bob and Brian, will wish secretly they don't support the GOP ticket, but won't admit it. I don't know how anyone for anyreason can vote Republican. Just because we support Obama and I do as well as many I know and are proud of it are not all "Liberal" I HATE being categorized, and anyone that votes republican has no backbone and must live on another planet>

As a Vietnam vet who came home to the jeers of "Baby Killer" "murder" and many more, I can only say that those thoughts come back to me so strong today as I read these little minded comment's of little minded people.. The right to vote for whom you wish, is just like the right for which church you attend, (or if you attend) is each persons' given right. To call people names, and slur them, just shows how little some people really are. Let each person vote as they wish, and if you can't voice your opinion of a person with respect, then you are the little minded people of this great country..that I came home to years ago...

This is Obama country, Palin needs to go back to middle school where she belongs with that empty brain of hers. For someone to vote for Mccain just because she's pretty just lets me know that thats a sign of a defeated person. You have called Obama names and have tried to throw all and any mud at him for the longest. His class and demeanor along with his poise has withstood your hateful slander. Everything you have tried to do to Obama has come back and backfired on Mccain. Realize that there's a movement in this country that you cannot, you will not, and you shall not stop. Can't you tell. At this point all your doing is grabbing for straws because you have no more ammo to throw at Obama. Give it up because you have failed miserably! Obama is the next president of America so accept it.

First off the average woman in this country has more of a brain than it takes to breath. I am astonished that she found her way out of Alaska, she does need to go home and stay there. She need to go home and do a better job of taking care of her kids, she needs to stop killing defenseless wildlife. The average America woman does not kill just to be one of the boys. The average America woman would not lie to America just to get what she wants. I would have voted for Hillary she is an average America woman.

Palin can't articulate a decent answer and you think she is qualified if something happens to McCain. You all are sorely mistaken. He just picked her to get the women vote. He won't get this one. McCain is old as dirt and becoming a president is stressful. It will probably kill him first before a term is up.

I am looking forward to seeing Sarah Palin I love everything that she stands for. I share the same beliefs as Sarah and I think that she is such an asset to the Republican ticket. The liberals say that she has too lttle experience even though she has been a mayor and governor. However, they see no problem electing Obama who has absolutely no credible experience. Obama is a smooth talker and that's about it. I pray to God that America gets it right! NOBAMA!!!

There are sooo many similarities between Palin and Obama: a fresh face on the DC scene, non-perfect home life (who has had one?), about the same amount of experience and age, optimistic about the future….Yet Palin gets the lion’s share of the attacks. You dems are just so outraged the repubs found a ‘lady’ that appeals to many folks. Hilary was a ‘broad’ and polarized many.

You hear of how she repeats the same rhetoric of the party yet all we hear from the bloggers here, is the same liberal rhetoric here. This means nothing to the libs since they repeat there hate for her and really don't even know her. Thats party lines, not research or facts. Palin is a young politician but she exibits much more experience in government than Obama. Thats backed up by facts. Some of you want to protest her for? What, being a nominee? That is pretty childish isn't it. Yet Biden and Clinton were shot at in Iraq without any facts to back it up? Thats OK though, you still believed them. Gullible sheep...bahhhh

I would rather have a root canal than go listen to Sarah Palin. What's sad about this whole thing is that Republicans will say she won the debate tonight regardless of what happens. She will just keep repeating the right wing talking points and code words, and you "joe six-pack" rednecks will be even more in love with her. She is so far in over her head it's pathetic!

I think I'll back out of this one just for the simple fact that some simpleton below me here said "WE" don't want to vote for Obama because hes black. Well..here goes..many of "YOU" are voting for him just because hes black! I have the stones to say it. The sad part of this whole affair is that I as a "white boy" was ready to vote for Obama. But I wouldn't now if my life depended on it. Not because he be black, but because he chose that sorry "white boy" who's running with him. I'm shafted either way! Obama wins, gets assasinated and Biden is president, McCain wins, drops dead cuz hes 114 years old, Palin is president. The country is in the tank no matter what. Obama change, bad change unless you are a voluntary welfare recipient, if you are, you would be Stupid NOT to vote for Obama. He is going to hand you the world and the people who work will foot the bill. Just like Bush is handing it to banks and oil. If your are an honest citizen your next 4 years will be misery!

Maybe he should run for a goverment office in Iran or somewhere over there. Question for all is not which one is the best but which one is the lesser of the two evils??? They all say change and they can do it. Well.....NO ONE Person can make the changes we need not Obama or McCain. So which one is going to help the people of america clean house in Washington and get some common sense in there?

Hey Senator BIDEN tell me about your experience of being shot down in Afganistan, and bullets flying at you in Baghdad. OBAMA tell me about your Bermuda connection in which you helped a company and exported American jobs. Also, your campaign contributions you received from Iran, China and Dubai. How about the group ACORN, that registers voters illegally, and pays them based on how many registrants you fine group obtains. Give me a break!!!You won't hear about all those jewels on the LIBERAL news networks.

You people voting for Obaman/Biden are crazy you know you should read his books that he has out. Obama is fooling you all you need to go online and see exactly what he stands for just remember that he will turn america into another Germany and will take everything away from us. As for Biden he has been in trouble for playgarism. He also owes his accountant loads of money. But you want these two clowns in office to have control over everything. Get a life vote McCain/Palin.

Welcome, Welcome Gov. Palin what a relief someone who has a brain , and knows politics. Pass on the Republican word. Cut Taxes, Little Government = More Jobs. Last week ECU had 2 Democratic good looking Female Actors who would not even know who Harry S. Truman was talk to the students. I think they talked more about PETA then politics.

A conservative woman in a Liberal University town! Yeah! Palin is not "anti-woman", she is just "anti-LIBERAL-woman". This means she is actually JUST LIKE most women over the age of 25- a working married woman with children and values (NOT an ANYTHING GOES ATTITUDE). As for her "lack of substance", we will see how she fairs against Biden tonight during the debate. That man embellishes (lies) so much it is laughable. SHE is a real person, unlike Obama and his fake accents when he says "Pakistan" or any other foreign country's name. I can't believe his supports don't find him utterly elitist. He really is arrogant and uses empty rhetoric that he reads from a teleprompter. Obama is afraid to make a decision on his own. Go McCain! Go Palin!

Katie Couric?? Just another liberal media person to attack conservatives! No matter how she looks, at least she hasn't lied about being under attack in Iraq like her opponent! She's been honest about her job, family, and what she's going to do about energy policies when she gets into office; which is much more than Biden can say. I can't wait till the debate tonight, she'll make him look like an idiot, of course, he does that pretty good on is own...good old flip flopper Biden!

You McCain-Palin voters are sick!As low as Eastern North Carolina jobs pay most of you can't afford to vote republican! This lady is a joke who needs to step down and you know it! No substance at all!! That is why she has only been on 3 fake easy question interviews. If this lady can run for vice-pres. so can Brittney Spears. You think America has seen hard times, you have not seen anything yet if they are to get into office. I have gotten 2 unregistered voters signed up yesterday and will do more just to not have these two in office. "May the best party win"

Posted by: James Location: Greenville on Oct 2, 2008 at 09:33 AM
Sarah Palin doesn't even know what newspaper she reads. Katie Couric asked her what periodicals she read regularly before she garnered nation attention (clearly a liberal media biased question!) and she said, "...any of them...ALL of them! Any media placed in front of me at the time, I have read."

Once again another loser that guarantees a landslide for Obama. I wish I could meet Mccain so I could personally thank him for choosing Palin and handing over the election to Obama. Some of you are just pure stupid. Its okay to wanna see her pretty face. But is that a legitimate reason to vote for her? I guess it just all boils down to not wanting a black president. I thank god that I'm not a prejudice individual. A pretty face is worthless when its nothing in your head. She's beautiful until she opens her mouth. (sorry) but its the truth.

Vick you ought to know that you can only show and tell your kids right from wrong but ultimately they will do what they want. But I know you know this and you only said that to get a rise out of her supporters. Im pretty sure that her daughter has a good support team on raising this child. Its not like they are from the ghetto and have kid after kid with no means of taking care of them. If you know the answer, then why dont you tell us how you keep your kids from having sex? Whatever it is that you do, Im sure Sarah Palin has done the same. Have you ever been asked a question about something specific and drawn a blank? I have. So has Obama and everyone else. Just because she couldnt name off something specific on the spot does not meant she is not qualified. Speaking of being qualified, what has Obama done to qualify him? Nothing. Hes all talk.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 2, 2008 at 07:59 AM
