Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole says she will vote against a revised $700 billion bailout of the nation's financial industry.
Meanwhile, Dole's Democratic challenger in her tight bid for re-election declined to take sides as the historic measure heads for a vote.
Dole said Wednesday the measure is "a government takeover of our economy with no protection for taxpayers." She does consider the relief package an improvement over a proposal that failed earlier this week in the House.
The Senate is expected to vote Wednesday night on the bailout
package.
Dole's challenger, Democratic state Sen. Kay Hagan, said Wednesday she wanted to see the final measure before taking a position. She also declined to voice an opinion on the bailout plan voted down by the House.

The mortgage "gaggle" started in 1971 and "burst" in 2007. Our local, state and federal governments loved it because they received more property tax revenue. The politicians loved it because of earmarks for their districts and states. More tax revenue means more "birdfeed" in the "birdfeeder". Just remember, what goes up...must come down. I think it's one big PONZI SCHEME. This bailout helps for about 6 months, then all "hell" will break loose. Everyone enjoyed the good times now be prepared for the bad times.
And I am going to vote against Dole. Hahahahahahaha...This is going to be one fun election season. hahahaha...
Sounds like Kay Hagan is just like every other Democrat. Put your finger up, see which way the wind is blowing, check the polls, vote present. No conviction or belief in what you stand for. Fred, Fountain boats will just be another in the long line of Carolina boat manufacturers to fall on hard times. Grady White, Parker, Regulator, World Cat, Albemarle all started laying off or shutting down months ago....oh yeah, Hatteras too. They have either cut back on production, stopped production or laid off hundreds. It takes too much gas to run these boats and at over 4.00 a gallon it costs hundreds of dollars to make one trip off shore. As long as the economy is in the 'tank' businesses that are based on WANTS will go down. Nobody NEEDS a boat. We just WANT them. We NEED to EAT, go to work, pay the mortgage etc.
